So far it's been great EXCEPT for one thing. The exfat format it comes with pretends to be compatible with Mac OS but it's NOT. It will disappear on you and appear unmountable/dead/unrecoverable. It is my understanding that this is a Mac OS issue, but Crucial could warn people about this issue. I wasted some hours troubleshooting this. I got it to mount on another machine and another boot drive, reformatted it as APFS and haven't had any trouble since then. A "universal" format would be nice (and is possible) but I don't plan on needing that so I didn't bother. ... show more

Bought this so that i could run my AAA Games of it and it works Flawlessly. It doesn't get hot on its own even under heavy use but beware of keeping it next to the laptop heat vent, combined with that, it does get very hot. Read / Write speed is good. but not as advertised. I was getting around 750mb/sec which was more than fine for my own use. All in All. Great Product! ... show more

I have 2 external Crucial X6 SSDs, 2 external X8 SSDs, all in 1TB capacity, and this my first Crucial X8 2 TB SSD, all connested to one USB port on one of my laptops throuigh a Juiced Systems Vertex USB C 10 GB/S powered hub. One laptop has a 5GB/s USB port, and the newer one has a 10GB/s USP port. In either system, these drives perform as well (in my real world usage) as if they were internal drives. I use them to (finally) get control of my data organized into catagories. So handle mainstream data, multimedia data, games, and regular backup copies of all important data . I can (and do) move my entire data repository between laptops by just moving a single USP plus, NO cloud concerns, NO NAS complexity, and NO worries about hacking, ransomeware, or intrusive online snoopers. When I choose, my entire data repository can be air gap secure by just pulling a USB plug. My internal C drive is thus limited to the OS and program files, all of which I can reload from online secure sources if I have to wipe and rebuild a nonfunctional system. The test is done connecting to the USB C port. When it's connected to a regular USB 3 it is extremely slow. You need to format the disk before use otherwise it's gonna be very slow. It's good with a PC that has USB C ports. If not it isn't worth the money.

Yes I know my PC is dusty, but this external SSD is amazing. Excellent for gaming or anything else really. You can use this for both a PC or Xbox. Just keep in mind, if you use it for Xbox, then the console will reformat this drive to work for the Xbox. That process will delete anything you have on it already. I bought as a extra drive to backup my computer. However, I decided to use it as a bootable start up drive for my Mac. My computer runs much faster, even without upgrading the ram memory. We needed a lot of storage backing up pictures from my phone and they seem to fit the bill. I’ve used crucial memory before in PCs and I’ve always loved the brand. It has never failed me. So I’m hoping this extends to their SSD drives as well.
