At the time I bought this it cost $192 USD, that's what I would consider a good price for it, but the $480 at time of review is certainly not worth it if you can wait. Speeds are good, but random read and writes may be slow. (Compared to the sequential speeds) M.2 installations are really easy, but you will benefit from a magnetic screwdriver and you may have to remove components like your GPU to access the M.2 slot. Check your motherboard for more information on this. I do not have a heatsink on the drive. For the most part sequential speeds are fine unless the transfer takes longer the 15 minutes, in which speeds begin to drop. Random speeds on the other hand appear more consistent, and my theory on that is that it begins thermal throttling quicker, and I say that as I've seen temperatures rise to roughly 75-80c on random in a relatively short amount of time compared to sequential.

I couldn't be happier with this SSD. It worked better than expected, even though I had to add my own heatsink since it's recommended if used in a PS5. I purchased the Samsung 980 Pro SSD 2TB back in 2022. Four years later, it kicked the bucket. It was a good product while it lasted. Samsung's warranty on SSDs is 5 years. After all this time, they honored the warranty. One problem, though, they were unable to fix it. They were unable to replace it either, because they don't make this model anymore. Now for the best part. Since I had the order receipt from Amazon, they reimbursed me with the full purchased amount, including tax.

I bought this as an upgrade from a Western Digital 2 TB SSD that I had for some time in my desktop. I had recently upgraded the motherboard to a Z590 from a Z490 and also upgraded my processor to an 11th generation i7 from a 10th generation processor. So why was this such a great upgrade? First of all, this is a Gen 4 PCI hard drive. My new motherboard and processor both support the Gen 4 PCI standard. I read that the speed of this SSD could be as much as 12 times faster than my current SSD. This baby is really fast, especially if Gen 4 PCI is supported on your computer! The second great experience was installation. After installing on the motherboard, Samsung has a great cloning software program. My old WD 2TB SSD was divided into two partitions, a 1.5 TB and a 500 GB. I was able to clone the 1.5 TB to the full 2TB partition on the new Samsung drive. Then I just copied the contents of the .5 TB partition to the new drive. I have all of the former contents now on one partition in the new drive. I had wanted to combine the two partitions for some time and this game me an easy way to do it. The third experience has nothing to do with the new drive, but I will disclose it anyway. My operating system is an upgrade to Windows 11 from Windows 10 that I did some time ago. I was experiencing problems in that my Bluetooth controls were not appearing in the Windows 11 settings. I had tried to find a solution on the internet, and I tried all the suggestions I found with no success. Then I found that Microsoft provides a means of reinstalling the Windows 11 operation system without wiping out any of the installed programs or files. I did that (although it took quite a while to execute), and it totally fixed my problem. Just a suggestion to anyone who has experienced any problems with their Windows 11 operating system. Finally, I have to mention price. This 2TB drive on sale for $119 I view as a real bargain. In addition, free shipping from Amazon. It also gave me the opportunity to contribute a donation to our state with some badly needed sales tax revenue. What more could one ask for?

Been using Samsung for years. They are well known and stable. With this particular drive, there was a firmware issue that locked the drive from being usable. That has since been addressed. I used Samsung Magician to update the firmware upon installing, and found it was already running the latest. For people using this drive, definitely get a heatsink. Installing an aftermarket heatsink is very straightforward and takes only a few minutes. But Samsung also has a variant of this drive with a built in heatsink. When inserting into the board / enclosure, make sure to slide it in at a 30 degree angle. You'll know it's working when the contacts are moving down. There's usually some friction, so using a bit of force is OK, but still being careful on not bending the pins. Samsung Magician recognized this drive immediately out of the gate, even before activating it in Windows. You'll need to go to Window, Disk Utility and create a partition on this drive because it'll be recognizable. The whole process takes ~30 seconds. I was able to transfer 500+ GB of data onto it upon install, and with the heatsink, it reached 57C. Idles around 45C. Final thoughts -- if you're looking at using it for an enclosure, then this drive is a bit of a waste, as most USB 3 Gen2 enclosures go only up to 10 gbps. The USB Gen 4 enclosures are much more expensive, but go up to 40 gbps, and still below the max speed of the drive. A cheaper, Gen 3 drive like the 970 Evo Plus would be a better choice if that's your only use case. However, for PC or Playstation 5, this drive would be a good fit, especially as prices are coming down.
