  • Great versatile bench
Color: Brown
ASSEMBLY: Probably the best assembly instructions I've seen in a long time. It comes with a card with all hardware clearly labeled. Then page 5 of the manual comes with a breakdown of the parts so you can easily lay them out for assembly. It was a joy to put together and took a little less than half of an Eagles, The Very Best Of album. They say you need two adjustable wrenches, a hammer, standard and phillips screwdrivers. I didn't need any of that, although you could assemble it with two adjustable wrenches if you had to, I didn't. What I used, which made it very easy to assemble was a metric socket set; an M13, M14, two M17, and two M19 sockets. As well as two ratchets. You could hold one side of STEP 1 E; with a M17 wrench, pliers, or adjustable wrench, tighten it with a ratchet on the other. But I prefer a ratchet on either side as it makes it easier and faster for me. Also STEP 2 B is the same method except with a size M19. Also Step 1 A: The unit came with this already done. Step 2 A; the first two sentences were already done as well. Then Step 3 E: says to lubricate Foam grips (#16) with water. This really works. They went on easily once I put a little water on my finger and ran it down the inside of each of these. Complete step 1 and 2 with the bolts just finger tight so there is plenty of play in it to get the others to line up easily. Then after all of Step 2 go back and tighten everything up before starting Step 3. USE: The backrest is about 2 inches too short for my head. With my feet locked behind the foam feet tubes, the back of my head is not supported well by the backrest, the crown of the back of my head is just over the backrest. I'm 5'11" so if that's important to you it may be too short for you. But I only lock my feet behind the feet tubes when I'm doing ab work, and it's not imperative that my head rest on the backrest. For all my chest work, I can slide my kiester down to the top foam tubes, then my head rests on the backrest. If they had a backrest that was just 6 inches longer it would be great for people up to about 6' 5". The footrest base folds in so you can easily move it or store it. It's very easy to adjust the backrest to the four positions. It appears and feels solid, like a bench that will be useful for many years to come. My old bench that this one is replacing did not appear as sturdy as this one and lasted over 20 years. CAUTION: Use of this item as a clothes hanger or dust collector may result in added flab around ones middle, arms, and chest. ... show more

  • A Great Workout Bench
Color: Brown
This is a surprisingly sturdy, lightweight bench to use for dumbbell exercises. Not only is it affordable, but it is easier to put together than the average treadmill. The manual's instructions for putting the bench together are clear and easy to follow, and it offers good advice on how to get started coming up with an exercise routine. The bench's backrest is adjustable (a hard-to-find but important feature), so you can do the full range of dumbbell exercises. Customers should know before buying that the bench is designed to support a maximum user weight of 250 lbs with a combined dumbbell weight of 100 lbs. So, although you cannot use this bench for lifting massive weights, it is ideal for people who are just starting out or who are focusing on fitness instead of extreme bodybuilding. (Update: November 28, 2010) Well, it has been a little over a year since I have been using this bench. I started out using 5-pound dumbbells with it at least 5 days a week. Now I am able to use 25-pound dumbbells on the same routine. Not once have I had the slightest bit of trouble with the bench. Durable? I would have to say so. My original 4-star rating still stands. (Update: April 22, 2012) Alright, I decided to do one last update for this review. What's the reason? Honestly, I still feel like you could not find a better bench to start weightlifting with for the price and quality, and I want to give you my take on what negative reviewers are saying. Here are some of the charges against the bench: a weird chemical smell, missing parts, rusted parts, wobbliness. First of all, let me tell you that any product that is shipped from a warehouse is likely to have a different smell. Ever been to the outdoors department at a retailer? Then you know what I'm talking about. The equipment will smell different at first, but that scent will eventually dissipate altogether. So, you don't have to worry that the bench is somehow lethally toxic. But when I received my bench, were there any rusted or missing parts? No. Everything was there as expected. As for wobbliness, I tend to think that this issue really depends on the skill of the person assembling the bench. You do a poor job, you get a poor result. Makes sense, right? C'mon people, let's be rational. I encourage you to read what other positive reviewers are saying about this bench if you still have any doubts. ... show more

  • If you use dumbbells, this is the perfect bench!
Color: Brown
I needed a workout bench but I use dumbbells and wanted something that was versatile. This thing is perfect. It lays in three positions. Flat for when I work do bench press, inclined for inclined press and upright for when I do curls. It's also great for crunches. The bench can actually go into a decline position for even tougher crunches or decline press. The things that hold your feet are good for the crunches but they're a pain in the neck when I just want to lift. But everything is a compromise. I was really surprised by the quality for the cheap price. The things on the side that supposedly hold your weights are not perfectly flat so the small dumbbell just rolls off. I would just unbolt it and get rid of them. The bench is comfortable and looks like it will last a long time. Yes there were a lot of parts but if you just take your time, you can build it in about less than an hour. Oh the other thing is that you can pull out the pin by the leg holders and the whole thing can fold up. I would 100% recommend this for those who like to lift weights using dumbbells. ... show more
