  • Great for huge soups and stews!
Calphalon is one of my favorite cookware brands and the Dutch oven is a great option when I need a big but not tall pot. Mind that the pot is very wide, so it might not fit on most burners and some stoves (especially on back burners). I absolutely love the versatility of being able to go from stove to oven. I like to use this pot for soups and stews, although it can easily take a big roast to the oven. The coating is non stick and easy to clean... but don't plan to cook eggs without oil or butter in it. The lid has the holes on the side, so it can be either sealed or allow steam out depending on the position set; works also to strain water, although I never needed to cook this huge amount of pasta. I highly advise washing Calphalon cookware by hand. But if you are like me on the lazy convenient side... it washes well in the dishwasher, but I am fully aware I'm losing years of use. The outside loses a bit of the patina, but the interior non-stick coating looks perfectly fine. But I make sure I use only wooden or silicon tools, making sure I don't scratch it. The Calphalon anodized pots and pans usually last me 5-6 years of use and abuse (I prefer to have fewer pans I use regularly), which is way longer than cheaper brands I have to replace yearly. These are not the heirloom stainless steel or cast iron pans you leave to your grandchildren. Amazon delivered it in a damaged box, but the Dutch oven was perfectly fine. I can't fault the product or the brands for that. Maybe buy Calphalon from places that are better with handling and delivery. ... show more

  • Great versatile pot
Bought this because our old Teflon pot had worn out. In 2 months of use, we are very pleased with this pot. It can be used to cook almost anything you need a bigger pot for, including soups, pastas and strews, and it can safely be used in the oven.

  • Stated pot dimensions are incorrect for 7 Qt.
Recently ordered and received the Calphalon, non-stick, 7 Qt. Dutch oven pot. I wanted to find out the pot dimensions before ordering but could not find any accurate information in the description nor in any of the reviews. For my particular application, I needed to know the exact pot dimensions. The dimensions I did find were stated as follows; 14.75" width x 7.75" height. The actual pot dimensions are as follows: 10 3/16" width (O.D.) x 5 3/8" height. Clearly the difference is not minor and in my opinion, misleading. Given how far off the actual dimensions are from the stated, I am beginning to wonder whether or not the actual stated volume is in fact 7 quarts. I have not yet measured it to find out the volume. Regardless of the above, I still consider this product to be worth purchasing for general use. ... show more

  • So much better than it's predecessor........Dutch Oven
Great quality Calphalon large cook pot with a very nice clear lid. Everything about this "Dutch Oven" (I always thought that was something else and not necessarily related to cookware, but anyways... :-) is an improvement over our prior Calphalon large cook pot of the same size. This pot has a pour spout, which is VERY HANDY and it also has a much "taller" metal ring on the edge of the clear lid which extends down into the cook pot when the lid is in place, which fits the pot nicely. You can move this pot around when it is in use and the lid stayed in place, which is a safety and convenience issue to prevent possible spills of hot items. The handles are better on this Calphalon cook pot than our "old one". The handles are actually a little further from the side of the cook pot, meaning they fit BIG hands easier and they are less impacted by the cook heat under the pot, but still use hot pads, etc, and proceed carefully before just grabbing the handles. This is a product which has been improved for the consumer and both my wife and I were surprised at the improvement this represents over the one we have had for many years. It's rare to buy a "new" version of an "old" product and not see some aspect which has been thinned, lightened, made cheaper, etc. than it was in the past. This cook pot was actually just the opposite. Everything about it is improved. In fact, I double checked the "old" cook pot to make sure it was in fact a Calphalon pot, so I was comparing comparable items and our "old" large cook pot is part of a set of Calphalon cookware we have had for many, many years..... We are not one's to throw away old items simply because we have a new one. But the old Calphalon pot, which had actually warped and the lid would no longer fit has been relegated to the recycling container......... This is a really nice quality large cook pot. It's not cheap, but it's certainly not a "cheap pot", either. I would buy it again in a flash now that I have seen the actual product and how much nicer it is than it's predecessor. ... show more

  • Great pot but...this is what happens in the dishwasher.
Great pot for cooking works great. I've ran it a few times in the dishwasher and now there a grayish powder residue left on the exterior of the pot. Inside the pot where the non-stick is at is fine. I'm just talking about the exterior of the pot, the outside all the way around the sides and the bottom it was caused by the running it in the dishwasher a few times. I'm not handwashing I don't care what is recommend by the manufacture or others. So what I did I painted with a brush with a high heat black paint I had left over from a couple of years ago from another project. If you do the same make sure you wipe off that powder residue before painting. It looks great and it's been months and the paint is fine and I barely tell I painted, one coat only by the way. Good luck. ... show more
