  • Wonderful set and great price!
Size: 5 Piece Style: Bundle
I bought this set a few weeks ago and took it camping and it was my first experience cooking in cast iron over a fire/ hot coals by myself. This set is lovely! I do see some dings and imperfections, however, it's cast iron and it's for making amazing food, not show-casing on display! I'm happy with them,"dings and all". I washed them with hot soapy water when they arrived and dried, then oiled them and cooked them in the oven for 1 hour on 350°and then let them cool completely in the oven before packing them in a box to go! Per suggestions, I cooked bacon for the first time use over the fire and they now pretty much wipe out clean with an oiled paper towl after each use. I scrubbed them with a small amount of hot water and seasoned them again (oil, baked and cool process) when we got home and they look beautiful and new, even after being burried in coals and fire and roughed up. I highly recommend this set! ... show more

  • Great Product

Bought this set for my husband. He loves them. Comes pre-seasoned but we heated them up and let smoke a little before using. Haven't had any issues.

  • Best cookware set you'll ever buy!
Size: 5 Piece Style: Bundle
I used to be intimidated by cast iron pans.... I used non-stick for the most part then noticed that none of those pans last very long even if properly cared for. I was pretty diligent to use only plastic on them but inevitably they always got scratched somewhere down the line. It was also not recommended to put them at high temps and if I had a recipe that required both the stove-top and the oven I'd have to change out my pan- very annoying. Buy these and you'll never have to repurchase one again- even if it gets rust! I honestly use at least one of these items a day, for the most part. Very reliable and doesn't get rusty if you look up how to take care of it. I only use a paper towel to clean after use for the most part. For stubborn bits that stick and for fragrant dishes such as fish, stir-fries, etc.- I scrub out the pan using a nylon brush using hot water- NEVER soap! I then dry it, put the pan on the stove to make sure any excess water is removed and then re-season with oil before putting it away. The pan gets exceptionally hot so for the germiphobes out there that insist that soap is the only way to sufficiently clean pots and pans- cookware becomes sterile at 212ºF. Cast iron cookware reaches around 400ºF in 4 minutes on medium heat- more than sufficient. This process only takes a few minutes, often less time than scrubbing out nonstick or stainless cookware. You can also use coarse kosher salt and oil to get stuck on food removed from the pan with a paper towel. It really isn't as high maintenance as you'd think so don't be scared! To prevent food (i.e. eggs) from sticking in the first place- make sure to preheat your skillet for a few minutes to get it scorching hot, add a little bit of butter or oil, and then crack open your eggs. The only times I've had them stick is when I've been too impatient and skipped this step. The lid that comes from the pan fits on the dutch oven, skillet, and griddle and definitely comes in handy. I thought I would rarely use the griddle- but it turns out to be my most used pan in the kitchen and hardly ever gets put away. Easier to flip in this which is perfect for eggs, pancakes, grilled cheese, etc (I always put the lid on-top of the griddle to fully melt the cheese when making grilled cheese, yum!) I use these babies to make a wide array of foods such as baked goods, pizza, fajitas, fish, frittatas, and mostly everything. This set really changed how I cook and I am better for it! ... show more

  • The Lodge Cast Iron 5-piece Set
While the maintenance can be laborious, it is an excellent set for the price. If you take good care of the set it will last forever. I can cook pretty much everything without any issues. The key is to clean and season right after you have cooked a meal. I have cooked a lot of the recopies from The 101 Things to Do with a Dutch Oven ... book with excellent outcomes. It is the basic Lodge Set and as the basic set you will not need to make any additions other than I added the Lodge Color EC7D43 Enameled Cast Iron Dutch Oven because I needed an enameled Dutch Oven. I no longer use the outside grill with the Griddle, or I bake cornbread either in the Skillet, or the Dutch Oven. Bacon, eggs, hash browns or any kind of breakfast, is a breeze with any of the skillets. I have stopped eating-out burgers, hotdogs or any kind of fast food, since I got the set. One of my favorites recipes is to take a 4, or 6 OZ steak in one of the skillets, (1" thick minimum) -heat up the skillet, add sea salt to the pan and not the steak, paper-towel pad dry the steak and add to "real hot" skillet and turn over after 3 minutes, continue turning over every so often while cooking your side dish (green beans, or bake potatoes ....). Add some cloves or garlic and pepper to the steak. Measure temperature and when around 135 degrees F add a little butter, once you decide, rare, medium rare or preference (145F), remove the steak from the pan, add an ounce or so of red wine to the pan and quickly cook a wine sauce with the butter, wine, garlic, pepper and so on. The cost of the steak is up-to-you, I watch the specials very carefully and buy ahead (Costco), a small potato is less than a $ if you bet a bag, a can of green beans is 60 cents of less, and so on, you can cook your favorite meal for less than the price of a burger at the local burger joints. The Lodge Cast Iron 5-piece Set, is a sound and an excellent investment. If you treated with respect and do the proper and required maintenance it will out-live your existence. Remember to add the salt to the pan and not the steak, when the steak is rare add the pepper, pepper will burn faster than the salt. If you think that the steak is cooking to fast at a high heat, lover-it. I know my skillet and can sear the steak both sides at high heat and then lower the temperature to give me time to cook the rest of the meal. Happy Cooking with you new set! ... show more
