  • Excellent fast-ish charger for my EV6
Color: 32A-(NEMA14-50) Size: 25ft
Rather than spend $400+ on a fixed charger with fancy smart features and apps that will stop working when the company goes bankrupt or ends operations in North America, I decided to go with a highly rated cheap level 1/2 combo portable-ish charger that can do double duty at home and on the go. Charges up to 32 amps like a champ with very little heat. Barely gets over 100°F on the outside, and that's outdoors in the shade in Florida (90° ambient). Left it out in the rain a couple times, on the ground while charging, and no issues. Also mounts nicely to the garage wall and acts as a fixed indoor L2 charger on a 14-50 outlet in the garage. Selectable amperage with a button is simple but effective, and really allows you to dial in the wattage based on how much your outlet or circuit can handle. After using it for a few weeks with no issues, I decided to grab a second one as a backup, just in case. Both cost me less than one Juicebox, and seem to work as well. One sits in my frunk in its rather nice zippered carrying case, and the other stays mounted on my garage wall. We'll see how it holds up long term, but considering I do less than 10k miles per year and charge maybe 1-2 times a week at most, I suspect that it will do just fine. I can start and stop charging and see input wattage and time remaining on my car's app, so not having another app for the charger is just fine. If I want to change the amperage, I can just go into the garage, pause charging, and press the button until the amperage I want comes on the display. Cord is long enough to be convenient but not so long to be a burden, and the charging handle feels solid and good quality. No frills, just works. ... show more

  • Works great, but manual is not very helpful
Color: 32A-(NEMA14-50) Size: 25ft
I almost returned this item because I couldn't figure out how to stop charging my car early. I read the broken-English manual and it states that to stop charging, to first unplug the charger from the outlet, then unplug the other end from the car. I tried, and it worked. Problem is, I don't want to have to unplug a big 50A receptacle every time I disconnect my car. After playing around with it a while, I found that I can press and hold the "A" button for several seconds, and it will then prompt on screen to "stop charging?" at which point I can confirm by pressing and holding "A" again. The other problem I had was that I couldn't at first get it to charge at any other rate than 10A (2.3kW). The manual said to press "A" to change the current limiter to a different level. I kept pressing the "A" button to make it cycle to other power levels but it didn't change from 10A (this is how I accidentally discovered the solution above to cancelling a charging session). It turns out, you need to select the charge level BEFORE charging, not while charging (when it is not connected to the car). Now that I know this, I can easily cycle it the target 32A (7.7kW) charge level. It includes a mounting cradle for the main charger "brick" and a separate cradle for the car connector, with a lip to hold the cable nicely. This means it works as a wall-mounted charger most of the time, but I can just unplug it and lift it out of the cradle (no tools), put it in the nice carrying case that it comes with, and throw it in the frunk as an emergency mobile charger for road trips. It includes the adapter to charge off a normal 15A household outlet for this purpose. In either 110V or 220V modes, it lets you limit the charging rate (only while NOT connected to the car, but that's fine now that I know). Had I known it had the feature of limiting current, I would have bought the bigger 40A version instead of the 32A version. I wanted to run limited to 32A because I have other loads on the same sub-panel and didn't want the breaker to trip. I would have bought the 40A and limited it to 32A in the winter when my shop heater on the same panel might kick on and let it run 40A in the summer. ... show more

  • Eases My (Range) Anxiety
Color: 40A (NEMA14-50) Size: for Other EVs (J1772)
I bought the Bokman Portable Level 1&2 EV Charger (240V,40A) because Tesla no longer supplies its cars with the mobile connector. I am relatively new to Teslas, so I still struggle with range anxiety. My daughter is going to college in another state now, and I wanted to have more flexibility in case a Supercharger or CCS station is not available. This unit opens up access to campgrounds that have 14-50 outlets. I may also buy an adapter to hook it up to 14-30 dryer outlets for even more versatility. I like that it is compact but comes with a 25ft long charging cable. The charging cable is thick and heavy duty, and the whole unit seams well made. Also, it is easy to adjust the amperage before you charge so you don't trip the circuit breaker. I've tested it out using the 110v adapter and it has worked fine. I bought the J1772 type because at the time they didn't offer the Tesla version. I have the J1772 Tesla adapter that came with the car though, so that is a non-issue. The charger is small enough that it disappears in the bottom of the trunk. This is definitely a cheaper route than the Tesla mobile charger and still offers 40 Amp charging capability. So, for my use case (emergencies and range anxiety) this is the most cost-effective solution. ... show more
