    • Use it backward for increased challenge
I think overall it works fine. One interesting thing is, if you use it backward, the rebound could actually be used as increased challenge! Not sure why it's not advertised this way though. It's a fun variant.

The fact that it has a retracting assist as a plus. I do wish that it came with better instructions other than just pictures. It has a foam mat that I can only assume is for your knees. When assembling, use a little dish soap on the handles to make the grips slide on more easily. If you do not do this, they will easily rip. ... show more

This ab roller device is not very sturdy. The lock nuts on the wheels work themselves loose and the internal spring mechanism makes a lot of noise. Let's see how long this device will last...

This device is very sturdy and as others have said, the wide wheel is nice for stability so you can get a good workout in and really focus on contracting your abs and less focus on stability (good for isolation). The rep counter works, but it is really an unnecessary bit and I never use it. I'd rather the money put into that was spent on adjusting the rebound (or even just allowing for it to be disabled) ... show more

This ab roller is certainly a step up from the old single wheel un-assisted varieties I've seen in the past. First of all the wheels are quite wide, which prevents the wheel from wandering around from side to side during use, as well as not teetering from side to side -- so much easier to control. Now, that ""wobbling"" of the old simple ab rollers is probably actually a good thing for more effective core activation since you have to account for all of its motions, and using your core (abs) is a part of what does that. But, I am in decent enough shape (now) and I still appreciate this roller's stability. I think this is ideal for an older person or someone who has balance / equilibrium challenges, or who just doesn't want to fight the wandering machine. The wheels are spring-loaded in some fashion, so as you extend out or back beyond the starting point it builds up resistance, and actually helps you return to center. Again, that probably lessens to some degree the effectiveness as compared to a simple un-assisted roller, but I'm good with that. For what it does, it does it pretty well. Now, as for the little electronic counter on top, it counts the "rotations" (back and forth cycles), shows a timer for how long you've been using it, and an estimation of calories expended (how accurate that is, who knows). Plus it displays a couple of other things. What I haven't figured out yet, though, is how to reset the counter; the little button doesn't seem to be the simple reset button it appears. And the instructions don't help -- it's really just a sheet showing how to assemble the handle (on one side of the single page) and a listing of the what shows on the display on the other side of the page. As for the display, when mine arrived the battery (LR44) that powers it had ruptured and was actually loose (in two pieces) in the box. Fortunately I had a spare battery around the house and it was pretty easily replaced. But I also noticed the wheels had some black marks / scuffs on them; not sure what they were, but it was almost similar to printer toner. I cleaned those off as best I could, but I can still see some marks (the picture is after cleaning it). I don't think that will leave any marks on my floors, but it's a little disappointing that it arrived in that condition. In the end, I think this should be fairly effective and easy to use. Four stars because of the condition when it arrived, and due to the lack of any real instructions for the counter / display. ... show more
