I need to tell the truth. My only previous experience with a cable machine was either the old equipment in high school or higher end commercial gym machines. I didn't have high expectations for a home gym, but the girlfriend mentioned this a few times and she's pretty smart and has good taste. I've paired this with an adjustable bench and dumbbells (all purchased on Amazon, see other reviews). The setup makes me want to workout. Assembly was actually sort of enjoyable and took just a little over an hour after unboxing. The only complaint is the way the hardware is packaged. They have individual packets for steps 1-10, 11-20, etc which is nice, but for example there weren't enough bolts in the first packet for all the steps it was supposed to cover. You have to steal from the next packet. Luckily overall there are enough parts. I guess what I'm saying is that it could be more accurately organization so that you're not wondering if there will be enough. The diagrams are fantastic, especially for the cable routing. Onto the important part; usage. This machine is so smooth, no jerky motion, no sticky/catchy spots. The weight is adequate for me (I'm not trying to get huge, just be somewhat fit for 50), available pullies allow you to hit muscle groups from multiple angles. The included pulldown bar is sturdy and has good shape for different hand positions. The set also includes a single handle, cuff and strap for crunches. I would recommend getting some additional carabiners or some heavy duty s hooks if your workout requires quick change over. I may also look into additional handles. My boyfriend put this mostly together in an evening , he finished it up the following evening after work and we've been using it ever since (we had it delivered here to our home) Looks great, works great, very versatile. I can do just about every workout I'd do at the gym. We put interlinking rubbermats covering the floor and underneath the entire unit . I have dumbells I bought over the years, stability balls workout bands and a pull up bar ,we've both canceled our gym membership and workout at home. ... show more

I purchased this unit to replace a Bowflex I purchased some 12 years ago.....I liked the Bowflex in that it did fold up into a smaller space when not in use, was easy to move if needed, but that unit did take more time to perform a complete workout because of changing attachments, and hooking and unhooking cables, and in my opinion was really not the quality of this unit (at least when compared to the earlier Bowflex model that I owned)......Although this Marcy unit does not fold up like the Bowflex meaning it requires a bit more space when not in use, I had the floor space for this compact unit and I like using this unit much better because of the simple, compact design and the ability to get a complete workout without having to add and / or subtract components .....This unit is a quality product and I consider it well worth the price....One reason I rated it a 4 was because it is taller than the 80 inches high as advertised........My workout room is a remodeled storage room with a sloped ceiling from 102 inches to 82 inches.....This unit was the only such unit I found that I thought would just fit on the back wall of my workout area because of its advertised height of 80 inches but since it is 84 inches to the top of the front of the unit, it did not fit where planned.....(And of course I could not determine that until I had unpacked and read the instructions enough to hold the major components together to see if it would fit where planned......Once I saw it was 4 inches taller than advertised and did not fit in the area I wanted to place the unit in, I was faced with either repacking and returning, or rearranging the planned layout of my room by moving some other equipment and using this unit in a different, less desirable area.)..... I also rated it a 4 because of the assembly time......The four hours I saw in some areas did not get it for me......My time was at least 8 hours for the whole project ....Unpacking (excellent packaging) and sorting out all of the parts took me an hour or so....All the small parts were well numbered but trust me, they need to be because there are vast number of them and there is not one piece of this unit that comes assembled from the distributor....Assembly was very slow using a step by step picture guide in very small print (every large component, nut, washer, bolt, pulley).....You will hunt and sort parts and assemble a step at a time.... And you will most likely have to redo at least a couple of the assembly steps because the assembly drawings just are not large and clear enough to fully understand the first go around.......I found what I thought to be good welds, quality fit and paint for the large components, and I was impressed with the excellent hardware quality......Once assembled as instructed, the unit feels sound and works very well....I expect years of quality service out of the unit.....I would highly recommend this unit for a home gym workout.....I consider the unit well worth the money.....Just be prepared however to have plenty of room to spread out your parts and to take your time and enjoy the assembly journey.....I also recommend you save the assembly instructions for future reference and build this unit where you plan for it to stay for a long while.....Considering the size and weight (400 pounds) of this unit, it is not something that I think you will be moving from room to room on a whim...... ... show more

After some issues in getting it delivered (it comes in 6 boxes, we got 2 boxes the same; Amazon promptly sent a complete new set, but I negotiated with the delivery team to only drop the box we needed). Assembly took a couple of days; my wife and I put it together with her nuts and bolts organizing skills and my lifting the heavy stuff. The quality of this equipment is far better than expected. Once assembled, the pulleys, pieces, levers, etc. all worked perfectly. My wife and I are both looking forward to using this machine!! ... show more

I lurches the Marcy home gym about 9 months ago. I wanted to wait a while before submitting my review. For starters, there were a lot of parts and they are not labeled. The pictures and instructions were helpful. I am not an engineer and at times I felt I needed to be to put this machine together. I suggest have 2 people as a second set of eyes and Hans is very helpful. With 2 people it took us abt 7 hrs to assemble. The pulleys gave us the most trouble as the instructions were difficult to understand. All aside, once the machine was put together I have been very happy with this home gym. I have used in 5-6 days a week for 9 months and it still very smooth. It is very easy and convenient to switch between exercises. The only drawback is with the butterfly exercise, I need to move the seat all the way back because of the handles when doing the chest press. Not a big issue but with mentioning. I also like the back row which is another reason I purchased this particular gym. Very easy to switch between all exercises. All in all this is a great home gym for the price. It did take a few weeks and was delivered in several boxes. The 200lb weight is more than enough. Highly recommend. ... show more
