  • Initial impressions pretty good
**UPDATE** Had an issue come up with this. I'm certain it's not a common problem that happened. I emailed the seller, and Amazon said expect an answer in 2-3 days. They responded next day and immediately resolved the issue. I already rated 5 stars, but with the experience I had with their customer service I can say their customer service is also 5 star. Also I did end up mounting directly to the deck: no issues with that. I just got this delivered. Picked no-rush so Amazon shipped it USPS, no damage or anything. Assembly is a breeze. Just four screws, four washers, and a wrench that comes with it and about 3 minutes and it was ready to go! Pretty simple mechanism so as long as you're not trying to crank it too much I don't see this breaking too easy, which I'm a fan of. The "base" it comes with is an x-shaped light metal base and it won't hold the weight of the umbrella by itself when it's opened. There are holes in the base where you can mount it to a deck if you didn't plan on moving at all and don't mind putting more holes in your deck. I had my own base on my previous umbrella; however, the pole that this umbrella is attached to already has some pegs that stick out, and won't go in the base well. That and the base I had would have been too low once the umbrella was raised. I'm thinking I may be able to find another metal pipe, cut out the peg area, and should be good enough to support this. Either that or you'll have to get some water weight bases made for these (I know the seller has them, or you may have them from another umbrella set). I didn't take a star away since they put in the description you'd need the additional base, but I should have looked more into it thinking I had a base that would be compatible (which I didn't). The umbrella itself it a good size and seems to be a pretty sturdy material. It opened up just fine, no issues though shorter people may have some issue since the crank is pretty high up there. I'm about 5'6" and had to reach a little. I just have to find the right place to put the umbrella since the sun is right in our backyard starting early afternoon to night and changes position. Wish you were able to tilt this but I don't even think that mechanic would have been feasible since it's an offset umbrella so not knocking off anything for that. Again, I'll check back after a little bit of usage to see how it holds up. Summary: Overall solid purchase If you have a base make sure it'll fit, or be ready to get a base that'll work with it or screw it to the deck SUPER easy assembly ... show more

  • Great value, quality, and service
I don't usually go out of my way to write reviews of products unless I am wildly disappointed or impressed. In this case I am on the impressed side! I honestly dont know how they sell for this price. Setup was really easy and is very sturdy out of the box(the base weights make it even better -- I highly recommend them). The quality is far better than I expected from something in this price category. Does an awesome job coving our whole deck with shade through the day with the tilting features. We has a small quality issue upon delivery, but I can assure you that the seller will do everything in their power to make it right. Manufacturing defects are a part of life and can't be avoided completely. However, in my case it certainly gave BLUU an opportunity to shine and show their business ethic to make things right. I would confidently buy from them again! Thank you BLUU. ... show more

  • Great customer support!!
I generally do not write reviews, but This product was very disappointing especially given how much we loved it when we got it. As many have said, it was easy to set up and seemed to be a sturdy, good quality product. We have had the product for only a month and the top part of the pole has already broken and twisted. We have only used it on sunny days where the wind has been minimal. Amazon was willing to pick it up and provide us a refund, but it’s still upsetting as there were so many good reviews for this umbrella. I am still waiting to hear from customer support from the company who makes the umbrella itself. Update: After working with their attentive customer service we were able to get a replacement product that has worked as we hoped it would. I cannot stress enough how wonderful customer service was and would recommend this company from that standpoint alone! ... show more

  • Nice, affordable umbrella for offset setups
The way our patio and conversation set is set up, we don't have the ability to place a center umbrella. We needed an offset umbrella that was easy to maneuver, provided ample shade, and was sturdy. After reading the reviews here, we decided to get the Bluu Banyan. We've had it for pretty much the whole summer, and it has been a game changer. We did have to buy an umbrella weight to keep it on the ground, especially since it is so off balance. But we found a nice one online to compliment that was relatively inexpensive and works great. I can't speak to any color fade as we have only had for a few months, but so far everything looks good. Looking forward to using for (hopefully) many years to come. ... show more

  • Cheap, but essentially disposable and not worth it in the long run
It's a cheap umbrella so if you are looking for something durable, look elsewhere. I bought this twice: the first time I got about 6 months of solid use in sunny weather with the occasional windy day (when I would make sure it was closed and kept from swinging around). After 6 months the crank housing cracked and I could only keep it open by wrapping a bungee around it to hold it in place. This was not ideal, but whatever... Eventually the housing cracked entirely and it was a lost cause. I needed a replacement so I did the ROI math: cheap, about a year of use, maybe it was bad luck, so why not try it again. Got the second one on a discount (so again, cheap) and stuck it away for a couple of months before the sun started really beating down on us this June. The cord just snapped (end of August) at the point where it holds the umbrella open. Being a reasonable person with tools, I figured I could take a stab at re-stringing it. Nope. There is one point in the entire mechanism that doesn't allow access for you to run the cord through. It's the only pin/ bolt that is permanently attached (the rest just need an Allen wrench) so it's garbage now. I guess it depends on your pain threshold and what you think is good value, but I'm probably investing in something that won't waste my time and end up in a landfill. ... show more
