The big 4 foot overlap ensures a proper fit for above ground pools unlike covers with 3 foot overlaps. Dirt Defender covers are held secure with a heavy duty cable and winch tightener that is anchored by rip proof metal grommets. Backed by an 8 year warranty (1 year full rated). This is by far the worst, cheapest cover I’ve ever purchased. It absolutely disintegrated and didn’t make it halfway through winter. Big gaping holes and we had to fish lots of pieces out when we opened. I specifically looked up which one it was so I never buy another one.

I have a 21' above ground pool so I ordered the 21' cover. The cover is actually 25' in diameter so it fits my pool perfectly with plenty of overhang even with an air pillow underneath it. Be aware that you get what you pay for. This cover is made from run-of-the-mill nylon/polyester mesh fabric with a polyethlene coating (the same as those cheap blue poly tarps from the hardware store). I seriously doubt that this tarp will last more than one or two seasons (my previous cover lasted one season and it was made of the same material). The "8-year" warranty is very misleading. Year 1 is 100% covered, year 2 is 50% off retail, year 3 is 40% off retail, year 4 is 30% off retail, year 5 is 20% off retail, year 6 is 15% off retail, year 7 is 10% off retail, and year 8 is 5% off retail. But, again, this is an inexpensive cover and should get the job done for a season or two. It fits perfectly and I'm happy with my purchase. UPDATE 10/31/2014 ================= The cover worked well for one winter season. We removed the cover in the Spring, hosed it off, and stored it in our crawl space until this Autumn. We closed down our pool and re-installed the cover about a month ago. We noticed that there was always a layer of water on top of the cover even after we pumped it dry. We just figured it was rain or dew buildup, but after a dry spell there was still a lot of water on top of the cover. We ended up buying another (same) cover and spent a great deal of time siphoning off the water and removing the old cover to install the new cover. While doing this we noticed lots of tiny holes in the old cover which is how the water was seeping on top. We got the new cover installed and everything is good now. Bottom line: the cover that we purchased a year ago only lasted one season. We're now on our second cover and we expect it to only last one season as well. This cover is pretty inexpensive so you get what you pay for. UPDATE: 09/19/2016 ===================================== I've now gone through THREE of these covers. The first two each lasted about two seasons (which, honestly, is what I was expecting). But the third cover didn't even make it through one season. A few months after covering our pool, the weave began to separate and water would leak up through the cover. Very poor quaity in my opinion. Barely got 2 winters out of this cover. Torn up and can not be used again. Cover left a lot of black plastic micro plastic in my pool . I did not like the quality.

I purchased this pool cover in the 18-foot size, and overall, it’s a great value. The cover fits well and was easy to install. It’s a bit thin but durable enough to withstand a season of use. I was impressed that it stayed in place through some windy storms, doing its job to keep out most dirt and debris. One minor issue is that rainwater tends to collect on top, causing the cover to sag a bit. However, with a water pump, you can easily remove the surface water, making it much more manageable. Without the pump, removing the cover can be a two-person job due to the weight of the water. Overall, it keeps most of the dirt out of the pool, which is pretty good for the price. If you're looking for a reliable cover that performs well for a season, this is a solid choice. Just be prepared to replace it after a couple of seasons. ... show more

Update: just took cover off 4/29/25 after having covered since 9/24 and on one end of cover that was over top seat of pool in 1 area it's got little tears almost like it melted. Idk if it's a defect or what but it will rip when we try to cover it next year. I will attach pix. It only did it in that area but all of it was attached the same and was in the same weather, etc and nobody has even been to that end of the pool all winter as there's no deck at that end. So we got 1yr out of it. Gonna try to get replacement. 1st reciew before took it off (1st year with this new cover. So far so good. Held up through some rough weather this year!) ... show more

We got this pool cover in May when we put our pool up. There are definitely some pros and cons for this bad boy. You can’t beat the price! The cord and tensioner were extremely easy to use. The fit was great! But don’t expect to get more than one summer out of it. It’s VERY thin, so by the end of summer despite not having any tears or holes, rain water was still getting through into the pool. While the tensioner did work easily, it didn’t seem to ever get tight enough to withstand higher gusts of wind (I’m not talking thunderstorm- I’m talking a typical windy day). We had to go out and readjust and couldn’t get it tight enough, so we had to buy clamps to clamp it to the poles on the pool. Personally, next year we plan to spend a bit more to get a higher quality cover. It did the job for most of the time we had it, but definitely wouldn’t last years. Just to give an idea, we are in Indiana where it may hit 90 a handful of times but average temps are in the 80s and humidity isn’t bad. ... show more

The speed at which this pool cover started to rip is CRIMINAL! I could see if the rip was near the pool deck or some hidden sharp corner but, no. The cover started ripping and did not stop until half of the pool was uncovered. Everything that this cover was meant to keep out of the pool ended up inside. So I have spent the past week cleaning out the organic material the cover failed to keep out. On top of the leaves and everything else, I am now cleaning up small pieces of the pool cover. These pieces are everywhere. The pool looks like a snow globe with the amount of destroyed cover floating around. Also, the destroyed cover pieces are neutrally buoyant so they neither float (easily skimmed) nor sink (easily vacuumed.) I understand these covers are cheaply made and you can usually only get one year out of them but this one started tearing before the first snow fell. Would not recommend. I will not be buying this brand again. The only positive, the wire and ratcheting piece held up fine. ... show more
