  • Mixed Experience with the App and Bluetooth Features Mixed Experience with the App and Bluetooth Features
I ordered these hearing aids after being diagnosed with significant hearing loss in my right ear. Being able to hear conversations clearly again is important, and I was looking for something discreet that wouldn't immediately draw attention. My first impression was very positive. I was excited to try them and hopeful they would help improve my day-to-day hearing experience. The hearing aids themselves are fairly unobtrusive when worn and seem well made. Unfortunately, the setup process was more challenging than I expected. I have still not been able to get Bluetooth streaming working reliably for phone calls or music. The right hearing aid seems to perform reasonably well, but the left one occasionally cuts out or doesn't seem to work as consistently. I also ran into issues with the app. Some of the text and menu options didn't fit properly on my phone screen because of my display settings. Customer support explained that the issue was related to my phone's accessibility settings, but the solution required making the text smaller throughout my phone, which made things harder for me to read. It also made me wonder how someone with vision challenges might navigate the app. I contacted customer support regarding the sound quality, which I felt was a little tinny, as well as some itching and discomfort from the ear pieces. I expected the remote fitting process to be a live session where someone would make adjustments while I listened and provided feedback in real time. Instead, I was asked to describe the issues, and updated settings were later sent to me through the app. The process wasn't necessarily bad, but it was different from what I expected. To be fair, I have not yet installed the updated settings they provided. Customer support was responsive and followed up as promised. However, I think it's important to mention that first impressions matter. When I first received these hearing aids, I was genuinely excited to use them. After experiencing the setup challenges, connectivity issues, and learning curve, some of that excitement faded. I do plan to continue testing them and install the updated settings, but the initial experience left me less motivated to keep working through the process. I'm fairly comfortable with technology, so I found some of these setup challenges surprising. Someone who is less tech-savvy may find the process even more frustrating. At this point, I think these hearing aids show promise, and some of my concerns may ultimately be resolved through further adjustments. However, based on my experience so far, the setup process, app usability, and Bluetooth issues have prevented me from fully enjoying them. ... show more

  • Programmable, but... Programmable, but...
I have hearing loss and just had an audiogram completed a couple of weeks ago. I decided to get these hearing aids as I have never tried any I can just get on Amazon that are programmable. Once I downloaded the app, I pulled out my hearing test results and entered them. The app provides an option to choose one of their preprogrammed hearing loss settings, take a test on the app, or enter your own. I chose to enter my own. You can't put in exact numbers as it only except multiples of 5, but my hearing loss may have had two numbers that weren't multiples of 5, so I just rounded to the nearest acceptable number. Then the aids did their work, and it was amazing. The problem I found was that the app kept asking me questions and before I realized it, it had completely changed my settings, and I was pulling my hair out trying to get it back to how it was. It wouldn't go back to my settings even when I put it back to the previous settings. So, I had to reset the entire thing to factory settings and re-enter all the numbers again. Then I just left it alone and it has been working properly ever since. That means that I can't say that it is easy to use, but it was worth figuring out. The aids come with a lot of sizes to see what fits your ears best. This makes it more discreet, and I haven't had any feedback. I should also note that the beeps and sounds from it are too loud, but I found a setting on the app where you can turn that down. The aids also have settings for the different environments you may be in. I didn't find those settings to be very helpful. Overall, these aids are not as good as those you can get from your audiologist but are much better than the amplifiers or basic aids you can find on websites for purchase without an audiogram. I think the price point reflects that. ... show more

  • Well-made, advanced control design with very easy to understand app. American phone support.
The Blaids hearing aids appear to be a very well-made (American-made), serious set compared to many OTC aids I’ve seen. They are on the mid-range to pricier side, but are a good value if you want something equal to "real" hearing aids and not just basic cheap sound amplifiers on the market. I didn’t need to use their support line, but it’s nice that they offer U.S.-based help. After playing around with the app a bit, I found it pretty easy to figure out. I did have a long career in pro audio and acoustics, so I understand what many of the controls are doing, but Blaids does a good job making those controls understandable to anybody. Instead of asking you to know things like equalization or frequency shaping, it uses plain descriptions like “sound is tinny” or “sound is muffled.” I also like that you can turn down or up compression and limiting in real time and they label this descriptively as doors slamming or fireworks - things like that. Those are exactly the kinds of events that are hard to recreate in an audiologist’s office no matter how many trips you make. You can also enter a standard audiogram if you have one from a hearing test, which is basically like matching the hearing aid to your hearing loss. My wife entered hers in just a few minutes. Out of the box, they include several usable presets, but you can still quickly and easily tweak bass, mids, and highs if you want. Overall, these have better controls for the user (even better than many audiologist aids)yet have whatever support you need, and when you need it, without driving around town to appointments. ... show more
