5 years outside in southeast Kansas. Never brought in. Color has maintained. No mildew. Easy to clean by spraying with a hose. A screw comes loose sometimes allowing it to pivot from where I want it, but tighten it back up and it's good to go. It is now showing wear and tear after it was left open and a storm came. Blew it into the porch and ripped a little. I do not feel it reflects negatively on the quality but does show it's durability. I am impressed with this umbrella and plan to purchase another. Tip: if you are in an area that gets windy definitely get a nice heavy base. Cinderblocks only work short term. And close it if there is going to be a storm. ... show more

Decent, could be better, but worth it.

Shocked at how nice this is. I live in Vegas with lots of wind. You must must must weigh this thing down. It will blow over. However, the umbrella itself moves some with the wind to keep it from blowing over easily. This was unexpected but wonderful! The base is bigger than what I had hoped, but necessary for stability. Big umbrella. Bigger than what I had thought, but I love it! It is a tiny bit harder to out up than I thought it would be. I have no problems, but someone who is elderly might. Pros: quality design and quality umbrella. You do have a little choice over position. Easy to put up if you have a little upper body strength. Cons: Will tip in wind without support. Can be a little hard to put up if you don't have any upper body strength. A couple pieces (critical pieces) are plastic. This is bad. I took one star away for this. I haven't had it Thant long and already see wear/damage on the plastic. They could of and should of upgraded this and the top pole. For the cost, switching those two pieces out would have made a huge differences in quality. Overall: merest deal for the price, just hope they stop using cheaper parts. ... show more

TLDR: Easy Assembly. Low cost, quality and longevity remains questionable. UPDATE: After a couple weeks of what I would call casual use, the plastic guard preventing the mechanism from going too far upwards and letting the umbrella too low, broke and fell out of its place completely with the weight of the umbrella pushing it up the pole, scratching it along the way. ALSO, it doesn't even work as an umbrella, as water just drips right down the center assembly underneath the umbrella. I have a hammock under mine right now and I was pretty surprised when i felt the center of it and it was sopping wet after a light rain. Not sure whats happening there, might be related to the umbrella hanging too low. Changing review from 3 starts to 1 star, and will probably request a return or replacement. *original review* Pros: Very easy to assemble, very easy to operate, does exactly what you expected it to do. Neutral: if your area isn't PERFECTLY balanced on a horizontal plane facing the umbrella, it will lean off to the side. Old umbrella was not this noticeable, but this is easily solved by slightly rotating the base. The way that offset umbrellas are designed makes this pretty negligible considering gravity will always balance out the umbrella portion. Cons: Wobbly. I understand offset umbrella's have a bit of play, but this is a little more than whats expected; Definitely not a deal breaker though, no issues from this, just an observation. *Con which prompted review* After a bit of use (less than 2 weeks), the mechanism that locks the umbrella in its height position very quickly lost a bit of its former vigor and when you lock the umbrella towards the beam's highest position, the mechanism does not have enough hold to keep it in place, and the assembly slides upwards. *My solution* I'm probably going to have to buy a locking Oil Filter wrench and see if I can use that to keep it locked in position on the pole. The issue with this is that it obviously is going to scratch it up like crazy over time, but I don't see much of a choice being that the entire pole/arm/umbrella assembly is provided as one factory assembled piece. Love offset umbrellas and I want to give this a better review, which I would have if the lever was better at locking it in position. ... show more

We bought this two years ago. Here’s my honest review. It provides tons of shade for our stock tank pool so we can swim anytime we want in the Florida scorching sun. We had to bolt it down to the deck to keep it secure. It does fly around pretty crazy with the slightest amount of wind. But that’s what you get when you have a tilted umbrella. We use bungee cords to help secure it when we want it to stay steady while using it. The color on the top exposed portion is faded from two years of blazing sun but who cares. We still get the shade we need. It has held up to many thunderstorms, although we do keep it secured together with bungee cords. Overall, we love it and will buy it again when this one expires. ... show more

Inexpensive Patio Umbrella - Failure Prone But Practical Value

I buy these inexpensive Chinese made patio umbrellas with stand every 3-4 years as they self destruct and become unusable. The reason being a higher quaity US brand patio Umbrella with Stand can cost around $500-$1000, and these cost just around $80. I live in an area of Sourhern California with sudden high wind gusts, and it I forget to fold up the umbrella, they can get picked up and blown over and broken even with (4) heavy 18-inch patio concrete paver blocks holding it down. In 12 years, I've gone though 3-4 of these. So is it worth risking a better quality higher priced umbrella that might be destroyed in the wind just as quickly? If you live in a wind free zone, then by all means, go for a higher quality more expensive US made umbralla and save the fustrations as follows: The first part to immediaely fail on these is the hand crank which will slip and not keep the umbrella open. So I cut and bend a piece of coat wire hanger to make a catch latch on the crank handle so it will not unwind when opened. The umbrella stand holder upright use to bend away from the foot pads and break over time. This last umbrella I got came with additional braces welded between stand holder upright and the foot braces which helped the problem somewhat, butr as you can see in my photos, the umbrella's post is a loose fit in the upright holder, which still leans over under the weight of the umbrella. And I have the umbrella cloth ripping through one of the umbrella suppot arms after 2 years. Although it has been blown over twice to help that happen.
