This handy magnet is a great cross-reference of suggested wood types and cooking temps. Very helpful to have the minimal USDA cooking temperatures listed, because if you've ever had food poisoning just ONCE from under-cooked food, like I have, you'll appreciate how important this is. As for wood types, merely suggestions and nothing more as personal preference will play a major role. For example, beef is the only meat check-marked for mesquite but I've found that wood flavor nearly overwhelms the more subtle flavors of that meat. And yet, I've had mesquite-smoked chicken and pork that was delicious. Overall, this is a well done reference guide that is nicely done and affordable. I thought this was really neat. It’s handy to just stick on the side of the fridge or smoker. I think my favorite thing is that it tells you your flavor profiles for each type of wood with each kind of meat. Of course it also tells you what temperature to smoke at, the internal temp you want to reach and additional suggestions. I highly recommend this product! I bought this as a gift for a good friend that loves to smoke BBQ. I was primarily interested in the effect of different types of woods on different meats. This magnet fit the bill. It seems to be adequately strong, so I am confident that it will stay on his smoker. The printing seems durable, I suspect it can weather the elements, but will last longer if covered when not in use. It also has meat temperature guidelines and even some tips for those temperatures. i.e. "Cook at 225 for 30 minutes, raise to 325 until target temp achieved". I could see where it might fade if left in the sun, but I would expect that with anything left in the sun. ... show more

This magnet is a handy guide to your meat smoking needs. I like that it has temperature guides for different kinds of meat as well as the very nice matrix of which woods work best with different kinds of meat. I use it as a starting point to try different combinations of woods with great results so far. It includes an extensive list of woods, even ones I don't have access to in my area. I keep the magnet on my fridge so that I can reference it whenever I plan to smoke something new as it lists which woods are highly recommended vs. tried and approved, and not recommended. It even has a nice Caution note along the bottom of which woods you should never use to smoke any meat. This magnetic guide is a great addition to your smoking supplies and a great gift for anyone starting out with smoking meat like I was a year ago, or even if you have been doing it for a while and want ideas for additional woods to try out. ... show more

Decent info, but not quite what I was looking for..... gives info for internal cook temp, but I was trying to find something that would give a little more info on how that internal temp translates to the meat consistency..... something like "145 degrees is cooked, meat is juicy and firm to cut, at 165 degree internal meat is thoroughly cooked and falls off bone or is ready to shred for pulled pork or beef". ... show more
