Description

For years, people hated traditional hearing aids because they made everything louder, but the tradeoff was unnatural sound, and a feeling blocked off from the ambient world, known as the “occlusion effect.” And there’s the sweaty, itchy discomfort of having something in your ears all day, every day. The AHA Sound B-1 changes everything. Its innovative open-ear bone conduction frame rests gently outside your ear and sends crystal clear sound vibrating straight through your cheekbones and skull to the inner ear, bypassing the outer and middle ear structures entirely. • Great Hearing Aids!
These bone conduction hearing aids are a great option for those who want an affordable, easy to use, streamlined solution to amplify sound. The controls and instructions are simple and straightforward so I had them on and working for me in just a couple minutes. I experimented with the different modes and volume settings to find what worked best for my level of hearing loss and environment. I can definitely hear voices, the tv, movies and nature sounds much better without having to invest in expensive hearing aids. While not quite as hidden as conventional hearing aids, I'm more likely to use them since they are so easy to put on and adjust. The Bluetooth is a nice feature to connect to my smartphone for calls or music, instead of separate headphones or ear pods. The carrying case is compact and the one charge lasts at least a full day. ... show more

  • B-1 Bone Conduction Headset - some observations
First of all let me say that I actually ordered one of these and received it this week. And a few minutes ago I posted some comments to the FLAG Report an issue with this product or seller. Here is the comment I posted: "It says 100+ bought in past month. What is the source of that claim? It is quite suspect because there are ONLY SIX REVIEWS (or ratings) of this item. I almost think the seller has other products and is including them in the count. BTW - it seems like Amazon is the only place from which this item can be purchased." -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I am approximately 70 years old and have moderate (according to audiology man at Costco) hearing loss. He said that I can hear pretty well, but that I can' always understand what is being said. Now for my version of a review: 1. The included documentation and instructions is quite minimal. Just two pieces of 8.5 by 11 paper (nice medium weight paper) folded down to pocket size pamphlets. Printed on both sides and in color with pictures and print that is not too small. 2. Two different phone numbers are provided in one of the pamphlets. That pamphlet is sub-titled "FDA Notices, Troubleshooting, Warranty & Service". 3. One of the provided phone numbers is for area code 313 and is near a sentence mentioning "Our hearing instrument technicians". 4. The other phone number is a toll-free at end of sentence "At AHA Sound we are her to help, and can be reached at 888-xxx-yyyy" (redaction by this writer). 5. As mentioned the instructions are few. I have bought numerous hands-free audio devices to use with cellphones over 20 years. All of them have had more instructions than this B-1 Bone Conduction Headset. 6. The results from a few hours of use has been encouraging. I have owned and used pairs of the Shokz brand of Bluetooth bone conduction headsets for almost 3 years. Those work very well, but they ARE NOT hearing aids according to the conventional definition. 7. After my initial experience (experiment) of maybe 3 hours of use I noticed that there are clear plastic stickers over what look like small speaker grills. So I will remove those stickers for my next use. But the instructions never mention that requirement. 8. When the headset is turned on and the two sides get close to each other (because I am fiddling with the volume and/or other buttons/controls) there is that high-pitched screechy feedback noise. Apparently the microphone is too close to some component and the volume is too high. 9. There is some strange piece of black rubber cord with two small holes in the package. Very curious. No mention of its purpose. Will see if I can upload a photo. 10. The package includes a pair of the soft foam earplugs, but there is only a picture of them on pamphlet panel 2 (What's In The Box). No mention of when/if/how to use them. I recently bought a pair of hearing aids from Costco and it is really irritating to function with those. They will be returned; their purchase was premature and I wish I had known about these AHA things sooner. While I think I could adapt and learn how to use those conventional amplifying HAs I would prefer a bone conduction solution. I have spent a good amount of effort looking for an over-the-counter (OTC) bone conduction hearing aid that does not involve surgery and expensive audiology involvement. I find it somewhat strange that this B-1 product is the only OTC bone conduction HA which I could find. So maybe take my comments into consideration. ... show more

  • Poor quality an no customer service active phone number.
Sound quality is poor when you try to call customer service for assistance. It's a medic alert sales team. If you don't want to purchase a medic alert then the call Auto disconnects every time you call for technical support with the device.

  • If the volume controls were independent for each ear it would be a very good product
The volume controls do not work independently for each ear, the volume controls, controls the volume for both ears.

  • Satisfied at Last
They are coming today, after many returns. Ok, they came and do actually work better than the pair I returned. For a nice touch, they included a carry case and not just a USB-C cord, but the charger as well. There are 4 modes... 1. AHA Sound Powering On (Default: Conversation Mode. Optimized for clear speech) 2. Balanced Mode (natural sound with intelligent noise reduction) 3. Focused Mode (maximum speech clarity with strong background noise reduction) 4. Custom Mode (to be defined.) I made it through breakfast and a radio sermon, understanding all that was said. Also, I seem to understand those with strong foreign accents. Volume and clarity are sufficiently adequate, something lacking in most bone conduction hearing aids. I still have to ask (Detroit based support) how the bluetooth works with the phone. (answering/hang up etc.) ***Note: The FDA recognizes these as hearing aids and not only amplifiers. ... show more

  • Great Option to High $$$ Hearing Aids
My mother is a long time hearing aid user, and very happy with her Signa hearing aids. But, I got her a set of these because for those times her ears get tired or sore from wearing something in her ears all day long and as a back up when she ran out of charge. Also, when she is hanging around the house, and just doesn't want to put her hearing aids in - even though she needs them. She likes how easily she can throw these on and the sound quality is good. The Bluetooth lets her make phone calls and watch videos without cranking up the speaker phone. ... show more

  • I Thought My Dad Was Losing His Memory. He Just Needed to Hear Better.
My dad recently had a serious heart attack that required weeks of hospitalization and recovery care. I took time off work to help him through the recovery process. My father is a smart, sharp 80-year-old, but during his recovery, he kept getting follow-up instructions confused. I found myself constantly repeating things, and I honestly started worrying that he might be experiencing cognitive decline. Then after a few weeks, I lost my voice. That’s when it finally clicked: I had been speaking REALLY loudly, almost yelling, ever since flying to LA to help him. Much louder than I normally talk at home. My dad simply couldn’t hear me well, and he probably wasn’t hearing the doctors clearly either. A friend recommended the AHA B1 hearing aid. It looked just like the headset my husband wears for work calls, which made it feel much less intimidating. No hearing doctor appointments, no complicated setup, and no awkward conversations trying to convince a grumpy old Asian man about aging or hearing loss. I ordered it, and it arrived quickly. I had my dad try on my “phone headset”, and IT WORKED. He now wears it to doctor appointments and when friends or family visit. Conversations are easier, instructions don’t need to be repeated, and honestly, it has been a huge relief for both of us. Finding a simple solution that helped him stay independent without adding more medical appointments was such a gift. Thank you, AHA B1! ... show more
