I'm used to having to build filters at each change, adding carbon, securing frames, all the work and mess that comes with it. The savings of time and mess over the actual cost make these quite worthwhile. A quick rinse of the filter and right into the filter it goes. The frame actually fits a bit tighter than the original frames and brand matched ones I was using prior. While I don't mind assembling filter cartridges to save a few bucks, after a while, I DID get tired of sweeping up all of the charcoal that inevitably falls out. These cartridges are less expensive than Tetra, fit my Tetra filter perfectly, and did the job. My only complaint? The Tetra cartridges last 7–9 days. I am using these in a 10 gallon tank I have in my living room. I have only had the filter in for a week but they seem to work just as well as the premade whisper 10 filters. I like that they are not as covered in charcoal as the whisper filters are and require less rinsing. They seem to be better assembled than the whisper filters making them look like the name brand while the whispers look like they would be the off brand. They are identical in size to the whisper 10 filters and fit the filter unit perfectly. I have not noticed any stress to the fish, the water is clear, no smells, and the same flow of water. Assuming no changes in the next few months, these will be my new replacement filters. Note, I have a pretty full stocked tank with corys and florida white cloud minnows. I also have a small sponge filter on one side, live plants, and two nerite snails. My tank is mostly self sustaining with biweekly 1/3 water changes and very little cleaning.
