  • Great Filter!!!
Size: 107
Great filter. It's quiet and by that I mean almost silent. My "hang on the top of the tank" filter I was using just wasn't doing the job. After installing the Fluval 107 I now have clear water. I like that you can put different filter materials in it to remove phosphates or nitrites. I will definitely be getting the larger 407 model for a 75 gallon tank I am currently setting up. Fluval is a high quality brand. The instructions are easy to read and follow. They sell a complete line of replacement parts so I know if I need to do maintenance or repair that I can get the parts I need for it. ... show more

  • One of the best options on the market, IMO
Size: 207
Got this to replace a previous generation of the same model that finally stopped working after about 15 years. Bottom line, the Fluval canisters are outstanding. Excellent flow rate, easy to maintain (but you SHOULD do the basic maintenance - replace the media periodically, and change the gasket seal once a year or so). Replacement parts are easy to come by for everything you can replace yourself. This generation is SUPER quiet. I keep it inside the pedestal base, which has a thin MDF door with gaps, so any significant sound will be heard, and although I could hear a soft noise from my old one, this one I cannot hear at all unless the room is totally silent and I specifically listen for it while also standing right next to the aquarium. Given how much water it's pushing, that is unbelievable. NOTE: Do not be disappointed when you first set it up if there is some noise. That is just air bubbles working their way through the system. It will happen on and off for couple hours after first turning it on. I also love all the new filter media Fluval has put out. Lots of options to dial in your setup. Highly recommend this. ... show more

  • Good filter
Size: 207
Almost silent even before putting in my cabinet. With it in the cabinet, I can’t hear it running. Easy to set up and use. I love the valve feature and the priming function worked better than any other pump I have had. I would recommend this for all tanks.

  • One word, perfect
Size: 107
Quiet, easy to clean and operate, it just works. Not sure what else to say. Oh, the tubes are not as easy to bend to the shape and position I preferred.

  • Best efficient no fuss canister filter out there
Size: 407
I wrote a review before but opted to take it down as I had mixed thoughts at first. I have run fluval filters for over 11 years. At first I couldn’t get the 407 to stop producing micro bubbles. The above pics are from a 40 gallon overstocked community tank. There is another canister with matrix on this tank recently added for experiment with nitrate reduction. This fluval is the main filter. I am currently experimenting with k1 in this fluval. First the good: this filter is a really nice upgrade from the 06 series. It’s stylish and the filter is VERY quiet compared to the 06. You won’t hear it at all in a cabinet. The edition of the red handle to lift the baskets is wonderful. The output is unmatched and I have tried Oase, Eheim etc. this blows them all away. The water will be CRYSTAL CLEAR as you will read from these other reviews esp with poly fill and one treatment of aqua clear from api to jump start the poly fill. I set mine up as follows: default foams, second basket polyfil, third and fourth basket with matrix. These filters utilize a lot of space for the prefilter and have the most surface area in foams compared to bottom top style like eheim. Therefore these are set and forget for ~ 3 months without gimmicks. Although if one desires they can clean the foams on the left more often as it’s quick and total cleanings can be put off further. Aesthetically they are designed in Italy and look it. Best looking filters out there. Another thing is the splash when releasing the aquastop. Simply close the aquastop while pump is on and then unplug. Then release valve —> zero splash. To open top push down all the way on hinges and it will pop off no need for a screwdriver. The bad: The main seal will compress over time if not changed once per year and the filter must be cleaned at ~3 month intervals if you want to avoid leaks. This is the reason why people are put off to this filter. There will be no problems as I have run these for over a decade if you follow this advice. The second issue is the development of microbubbles. The aquastop valve o rings compress over time I guess with these 07’s. This never happened to my 306’s. This is easily the most frustrating and annoying flaw for an expensive filter. Esp. the 07 version. I had no issue with my son’s 207 yet. It sucks because bubbles make the tank look dirty. This too can be avoided easily. (Now that I figured it out lol). This was also much much harder to figure out. I almost gave up on this filter due to this issue with the design. I tried 3 of these fluval 407’s to rule out the individual unit and all created them over time. Simply replace the aquastop valve they sell them here. There are o ring kits on here I saw later that might work. But they don’t sell the o rings separately I guess. If you still get microbubbles replace the main seal. If that doesn’t work then you have a defective unit. Third: only mechanical restriction for flow reduction. I would have liked to see a digital or analogue dial voltage reducer to change flow like the new filters. Fourth: better clamping mechanism. It barely holds the top down. Conclusion: over all as good as it gets. A clear version with clear baskets would be AWESOME. special edition fluval? A voltage regulated flow would be perfect. Better lock fitting baskets would be ideal. But considering the surface area of sponges which is what makes the water so clear, the longevity between maintence and the flow with proper media the fish are never happier. It’s the best out there without the gimmicks. Thank you if you made it this far :). ... show more

  • Perfect filter!
Size: 307
I just set this up on my 45 gallon bow front, soon to up grade to a 55 gallon tank. This filter is amazing! I did have to install a spray bar to help with the intense flow while still allowing it to work the way it should. I didn't want to adjust the flow rate down but rather redirect the flow so my fish could still swim! This filter is silent and that was shocking to me. I was thinking it was going to be at least as noisy as my air pumps are but it doesn't make a sound. If you have been thinking of getting one, stop thinking and order it now! ... show more

  • AMAZING!!!
Size: 407
This replaced a pet store over the back filter for my 58 gallon tank. My water quality here is terrible, the tank was a mess, this was my last hope. I read the reviews about it being noisy so was prepared for the worst. THIS IS AN AMAZING FISH TANK FILTER AND WELL WORTH THE MONEY! CLEANED THE WATER WITHIN 24 HOURS AND IT'S QUIET! The set up took about 45 minutes, it was not difficult but this is a more complicated and infinitely better filter than the back of the tank jobbies from the pet store. Just read the directions carefully and you'll be okay. I am still waiting for the in-line UV cleaner for bacteria that keeps making the water cloudy (tried ALL the petstore products.....no luck, we have well water) but the water has never looked better. This is a great product! ... show more
