Fluval CCFL technology attacks cloudy and green water by applying powerful, DNA-destroying UVC light emissions. This natural process is chemical-free and will not affect beneficial, surface-dwelling bacterial colonies that are already established. So much better than I expected. I set up a new tank and had a big algae bloom. Water was so green after many water changes. I was debating between this and the green killing machine and choose this. As soon as I installed it, I did a 50% water change and left it running 24hrs and was clear within 4 days. My water is clearer than anything I’ve seen. I have a 32yo turtle in a 40gallon tank. After a 50% water change the water became extremely cloudy. I tried everything to clear it up but nothing worked. After about a month of cloudy water I decided to give this product a try and boy am I glad I did because it worked! After 48 hours of this running 8hours a day (on a timer) it made the water crystal clear! I have no complaints. I had a nasty bloom in my 75gal , it was crystal clear within a week. It's nice to know it's also working on other bad things in the water column like bacteria and parasites. The timer is super nice, simple. For me it's a small price to pay to have less to worry about in my tank.

I didn't like having to screw it into the side of my lovely oak stand base but I was so tired of my tank looking like it had been filled with mountain dew! I especially love the run timer because it leaves plenty of things in the water for all my mussels to feed off. I can finally see my fish after 4 monthes of water changes, shocks, and chem balances. Took about a week to notice the change in the water, but it’s crystal clear from every angle. The only thing I don’t like which isn’t a big deal isn’t besides the lights on the control switch you can’t tell if the UV is actually working. Supposedly on the switch it will let you know when it isn’t. Either way I have it set to 4 hours a day over night and I definitely can tell there is no cloudiness to the water or coloration.     • Not for FX series filter
Do not buy for any FX series filter. It is too small and can't connect. Also instructions say it can't handle the flow of filter. This would have been nice to know before I bought. I returned easily to Amazon.

    • I want to love this.
I want to love this but it was a PITA to install on my 75g pine stand. My stand has no backing, only a center brace and the corners. I am hesitant to drill into the horizontal support with a 700 pound filled aquarium over head. I ended up mounting it to a 1x4 piece of wood and used velco to hold the wood. I had initially intended to just Velcro the unit itself, but the stupid lettering would not let the velcro stick. Did Fluval really need to brand it on the back also? After getting it installed, you really have no way of knowing if it is working. I do not have green water, but am fighting a potential Ich infection I apparently got from a recent snail purchase(snails can carry the spores supposedly). It would be super nice to have a bracket that you connect tot he tankl and then connect this to the bracket. ... show more

Added this Fluval UV Sterilizer to my Fluval 306 canister filter that is connected to my 210 aquatic turtle tank. We've battled unclear water for years and finally added a UV sterilizer. This made the difference overnight. I wish I had before/after pictures to share of the water column. The water is crystal clear this morning after setting it up yesterday. The installation was super easy. If you're running fluval canister filters, then this is a no brainer investment for your aquarium.
