We were getting a lot of rain splash on our door and wanted a bit more protection. This worked out great. The instruction are lacking in clarity, you just need to figure it out yourself on some steps. Like when putting the panels into the tracks we put them in running the wrong direction. They look almost square but they are not and didn't fit. The instruction don't say one word about this. Like other reviews, the process needs TWO people. You have to slightly arc/bend the panel into the tracks of the supports at the same time you are anchoring the next support. Squeeze clamps won't do it, an extra pair of hands will. I would still buy another and recommend to a friend. ... show more

I bought this to partially cover a small 60 gallon goldfish pond. It was easy to put together but did take a little thought to figure out the directions. Some notes: 1. Pay attention to the plastic wrapping on the inserts. One side has a note, the aide with the white plastic, which is the side that goes up towards the sun. The other side is clear plastic. 2. Slide on the top and bottom trim pieces on the plastic insert BEFORE you put them in the brackets. 3. The long screws go into the bracket sections into the trim pieces. 4. The short screws go into the front trim piece. 5. The little Z or S shaped piece of metal is to help you hold the screws because the holes are recessed pretty deep at the big end of the bracket. 6. It's possible to hang this by yourself but it's easier with 2 people. I was by myself and put a 4" long wood screw into the wall where one bracket was going and it held up one side for me. But 2 people would be much easier. Overall it seems like a good value for the money. If they last a couple of years you can probably find some plexiglass place to cut you a couple of pieces of the same thickness, around 1/4" or 5/16" and put that back in the brackets. ... show more

These awnings are fantastic. Very strong and stable i put them up just about a month ago, and in that time they've survived rain, high winds, hail, and a freak snow storm that dropped several feet! The awnings handled it all with ease and never budged. Installation was a little tricky. Partially because of the house, and partly because these are a bit awkward to handle due to their size. A second person is highly advised. Also, mark and predrill each set of holes for each panel. There seems to be about 0.25 inch of variation in the bracket to bracket spacing. The panels look wonderful once installed. I've had two neighbors, whom I had not met previously, come by to ask where I bought them. I did not use the provided hardware to attach the brackets to the house. Instead, I purchased 3" stainless lag bolts and galvanized washers from the hardware store. I predrilled the holes as mentioned, and sqeezed some outdoor caulking into the holes before using an impact driver to secure the bolts. Be careful with the small screws that hold the frame together. They don't give you extra, so be sure not to drop one in the lawn. Also, I was using a powered driver for the screws as well and sheered of one of the heads. So, use caution and finesse. I hope you have as much luck with these as I did! I only wish I had installed them sooner. ... show more

At the price, I expected this to be very mediocre, but I was pleasantly surprised. I liked it so much, I bought a second one for another door. Although it's just plastic, it doesn't look "cheap". The instructions left a little to be desired, and I found it easier to assemble it on the wall piece-by-piece versus building it on the ground, then hanging (since I was doing it by myself). The first one was missing the mounting hardware for wood/siding install; only had the masonry hardware. I didn't realize this until I got the second one which had all the hardware. Regardless, I bought 3" stainless wood screws and washers to mount it with, which I painted white to match. Since installing, I've had a couple of stormy/windy days, and they've both performed very well. Overall, I'm pleased. I'll probably even buy another for my barn door. ... show more

You can't beat it for the price – looks great – easy to assemble – does what it supposed to. I put it up myself in a rather precarious place - over the up and down stairs in my back home entrance. Had absolutely no problem. My brother-in-law saw it and thought it would be perfect for his back entry. His previous awning made of aluminum ripped away during a rainstorm. I've had a few good thunderstorms with significant rain and its held up. I'll need to wait till next year to verify how it does through a Chicago winter but I don't expect any problems - we'll see. I'm thinking of getting a second one for my garage as it looks great with my nearly 100 yr old bungalow. Note: I did not use the mounting hardware supplied which is provided for a brick installation. I installed into wood, used their washers and my 3" deck screws. ... show more

It took my husband and I about 1.5 hours to attach. Not because it was hard, but we decided to make "blocks" to attach to the house, to attach the awning too. Not sure if you can see in the photo. Pretty straightforward if your'e slightly handy. The bottoms of our doors were getting too wet from rain splashing, so we needed something. Not sure how long it will hold up, but something is better than nothing. I'll give it a 5 star for now, because it is what it advertised. ... show more

We put this over our back sliding door. The screws that came with it were not long enough. We installed a header board to our wood siding first (painted it to match the house) and then used 8" lag bolts. It was a mild winter but it held up fine in the snow. If there was a lot of snow sitting on it I would just use a broom and brush it off. I didn't want it sliding off and hitting anyone in the head anyway. Would buy again. ... show more
