  • Window Awning Outdoor Polycarbonate Hollow Sheetfor Doors.
Color: Silver Canopy + Black Bracket Size: 40" x 80"
I absolutely love this awning. We put it up over our front door and the steps leading up to it, so now we don't have to stand in the rain when we're unlocking our door when we get home. An added bonus, it keeps our front door knob from getting quite as hot as it did when the sun could hit it directly. It took a little bit to put to get it together but was easy to install. The panels seem pretty flimsy, but we had some high winds the day after we installed it and it came through just fine. We did install it over a door on a wall that had some texture to it, but we used some caulk to seal it all up. It rained today and no leaks, so we're super happy to have it. ... show more

  • A bit involved to put together but an economical choice
Color: Silver Canopy + Black Bracket Size: 40" x 80"
I have put together this type of awning before, so I told the wife, no problem. Things changed when the box arrived. The first, very noticeable thing was the box was half as large as I expected and much lighter. The differences were more apparent when I opened the box. The brackets that attached the canopy to the wall are plastic, not the iron I had put together before. The video from the company showed two workmen happily pounding on a bracket, accompanied by the ring of metal as the hammer struck it. Each polycarbonate section was in two pieces, not one as before. This was unexpected and really upped the difficulty of assembly. The two sections of plastic skylight are held together with a clear plastic “H channel” bar. The bar is supposed to be pushed between the two pieces, threading the sheets into the channels as you went up. Except in our case, the plastic would wrinkle, making it impossible to continue. I solved that with a few drops on dishwashing liquid detergent just ahead of where the H bar was. (Be warned, if you get anything liquid on the channels in the polycarbonate, it will wick up inside like a straw. I decided that the blue of the detergent complimented the clear poly and besides, the H bar covered it, mostly. I’ve experienced this before with poly skylights but had a momentary lapse of reason.) The panels had a tendency to pull out behind where we were. We used cardboard to make bridge over the H bar and taped it to the poly on each side. It kept the sheets stationary but let the bar continue sliding on. Even after the detergent and tape, the sheets still needed to be tapped on to be seated. Also, be sure the aluminum braces on the top and bottom of the finished assembly are installed with the correct side up. It becomes very important later. (another “warm hint”: you have to roll back the protective sheet over the poly back about two inches for assembly. It helps to tape the loose edges down to keep them out of the way and to prevent the covering coming further off.) To get the poly sheets into the braces, we made plastic wedges to help guide them into place. We didn’t use a sledge hammer as in the video. Lining up the parts to get them ready for screws was helpful because it showed if parts were even a little bit out of alignment. One everything is in place, the screws went in easily. Even though the two-piece windows were very involved (READ,PITA), the plastic brackets turned out to be an advantage. The canopy we ordered was two sections and one person was able to hold it over their heads. That was NOT an option when they were iron, especially with three iron brackets. I am sure it is a cheaper alternative, but I believe they will be fine for the 10 year life expectancy that the seller predicts. Weather has been against us every day that we had time available. This one is destined for the entry of a storage barn and since it has thick plywood siding, I don’t think there should be any problem with installation. I know, famous last words. Unless the installation ends in tears, the plan is to order a 12 foot long canopy which has THREE sections and FOUR bars. At that point, I am sure we will grateful those brackets are NOT iron. One other thing, these brackets are all the same, meaning you can order multiple units to cover larger areas. Each section will connect to the last one. 4 stars for being an economical solution, especially if consider the cost of constructing a covered area or using a pipe and fabric canopy. One star is deducted for the additional struggle with the two-piece poly sections. This is a hardship that could have been prevented by sending it one piece, as manufacturers used to do. ... show more

  • Didn't work out for me.
Color: Silver Canopy + Black Bracket Size: 40" x 80"
Admittedly, I am not the most knowledgeable handyman, but I am generally capable of putting things together..... Unfortunately, that has not been the case with this. Putting this together is hard. I tried a couple of times on my own before I enlisted a friend to assist only to find out that the the gap above my door where I had hoped to install this is just a tad too small, which seemingly makes it impossible to install. Disappointing, frustrating experience to say this least. I really liked the design of this. It is simple but modern looking and can match almost anything. This double awning is a great size and wide enough to easily accommodate multiple people sheltering underneath. The materials do feel a bit flimsy, and I was surprised to see the awning is mounted to plastic instead of metal. However, what really matters is how well it works, and unfortunately, even after working on this off and on for weeks, I still have no idea. I would recommend to of course measure your space before ordering but to also leave a bit of wiggle room to avoid similar frustration. Also, you may want to plan to have someone help. ... show more

  • Easy to install
Color: Dark Brown Canopy + Black Bracket Size: 40" x 40"
When it rains, water would run under the door to my garage and everything gets wet. It's a pain to clean and dry everything every time it happens. I installed this awning to keep rain away from the door so it doesn't run down the door and into the garage. It recently rained and no water in the garage so problem solved. The install was easy and one person can definitely do it. It's well built and pretty sturdy. It also give the door a nice look. Great product. ... show more

  • Looks great
Color: Dark Brown Canopy + Black Bracket Size: 40" x 40"
In general, I am pleased with this awning. I had purchased on other of these in the past - different brand - yet this one is almost exactly the same. It is very light, being constructed 99% of plastic, yet it remains rigid enough to serve it's purpose. It wasn't what I would call difficult to assemble, but it was challenging at times to get the polycarbonate panels into the grooves on the arms because of the required curvature. The instructions are only "so-so", and suggest you construct the frame before you insert the shade panels (which come in two halves, connected by a translucent "joiner"). I found this extremely difficult, and ultimately inserted the shade panels into one disassembled side's groove, then into the other disassembled side's groove and only then did I assemble and connect the partially assembled unit to the front and rear connectors and complete the assembly. Hard to explain clearly, but you will easily figure out the best method as you attempt to follow the given instructions. Hanging it was a snap. I did it myself as it is light enough to hold in place as you mark your holes. I installed it into brick, adding a small degree of difficulty to drill the brick and use the included masonry anchors. It also comes with lags for installing into wood. Start to finish, I spent about 90 minutes to assemble and install. Bottom line: It looks nice, and is easy to install. Typical of most similar offerings I believe. ... show more
