  • Rock-Solid NVMe Drives for NAS – Ideal for QNAP RAID 1
Capacity: 500GB
I picked up two 500GB WD Red SN700 NVMe SSDs for use in a RAID 1 configuration inside my QNAP TS-464 NAS, and they’ve been nothing short of excellent. These drives are specifically designed for NAS environments, and it shows. They’re optimized for 24/7 operation, with high endurance ratings that far exceed those of typical consumer NVMe SSDs. Setup was seamless—the QNAP recognized them instantly, and I had my RAID 1 volume up and running without a hitch. I’m currently using the SSD volume for QTS system files and apps, and the performance improvement has been significant. The NAS is much more responsive, apps load quickly, and everything feels snappier compared to using traditional HDDs alone. Thermals have been great too, especially with the addition of low-profile heatsinks (I used the MHQJRH M.2 2280 model, which fit perfectly in the QNAP). There’s been no sign of thermal throttling, even under sustained activity. Down the road, I plan to add a third SN700 and migrate the array to RAID 5, which will give me more usable space while still maintaining redundancy. Knowing these drives are built for NAS workloads gives me confidence they’ll hold up long-term. If you're looking for reliable, NAS-rated NVMe SSDs for cache, system volumes, or storage pools, the WD Red SN700 is an excellent choice. Stable, fast, and built for the job. ... show more

  • Works well in RAID 1
Capacity: 1TB
I needed 2 nmve drives to run in RAID 1 in a small appliance that runs some Docker containers and other purposes 24/7. So far they have been running for months without a hiccup. They are fast enough for my needs and are large enough for more of the services I plan on self hosting.

  • Maybe not the best quality memory
Capacity: 500GB
Contradictory quality because I bought two pieces and put in my Synology Nas for cashing. 6 months later one of the blades died.

Great for NAS usage. No issues and quality SSD.

  • Excellent Performance for SSD Read-Write Cache in Synology NAS
Capacity: 500GB
I added two Western Digital 500GB WD Red SN700 NVMe SSDs to my Synology NAS DS1821+, and they've been working flawlessly. Setting them up as an SSD read-write cache has noticeably improved the overall performance and responsiveness of my NAS. One tip I'd like to share is allocating only 75% of the SSDs' capacity for the cache. By not filling them up to 100%, I've found that the SSDs maintain optimal performance and longevity. This prevents potential slowdowns that can occur when drives are fully saturated. Installation was straightforward, and the drives were immediately recognized by the Synology system. These SSDs are specifically designed for NAS devices, ensuring reliable operation under constant read and write demands. If you're looking to enhance your NAS setup, I highly recommend these WD Red SN700 NVMe SSDs. They've exceeded my expectations and have become a valuable part of my storage solution. Five stars! ... show more

  • Works as a cache, compatible with Ugreen Nas
Capacity: 1TB
The 1tb SN700 works well for my Ugreen DXP 4800 Plus NAS. I’ve tried using it as actual storage as well as setting it up as cache. Both configurations work flawlessly. I chose to keep it as a cache to allow for a snappier experience while using my nas. I installed the ssd with a heatsink provided with my nas. (The SN700 did not come with any.) It was quick and easy. ... show more

  • Failed after 29 hours of read/write
Capacity: 1TB
Failed after a couple of months. Keep in mind that this was used less than 29 hours total. Data totally lost. I learned the hard way to do the 3 2 1 rule when it comes to data backup. I used this ssd as an external ssd to keep data on it ( upload new data then unplug and leave it alone unplugged) not even ana ctice 24/7 operation. ... show more

  • I highly recommend this upgrade for your Synology 923+ NAS.
Capacity: 1TB
A significant upgrade for your Synology 923+ NAS. During install the system DID recognize that it wasn't Synology brand NVMe however it didn't impact setup at all. One important tip, SSDs perform best when they're not full. It's recommended you set it up to use only 80-90% of the full capacity. So even though you're buying 1TB, consider allocating only 800 GB to the volume. This should increase SSD lifespan, help maintain consistent performance and is best practice for 24/7 systems like NAS. ... show more
