This is an unformatted blank disk drive. No software was included but finding instructions and free software on the internet was relatively easy. The sector size is 4096 bytes so I could not clone my old disk that had a sector size of 512 bytes directly on to it.

I used this hard drive in my new eufy 3 security system. It works great. It was the 1 TB version. I have about 977 GB usable which seems about right. The packaging was very basic, just bubble wrap. I bought this brand because I want a trustworthy drive. Five year wty means manufacturer trusts it, too. My choice for bulk storage of valuable files. Installed in external USB enclosure. My second WD Black 1TB 2.5".

    • Works great out of the box, good performance on ps4.
Ordered this to replace the 500gb hard drive on my girlfriends ps4. Overall a nice upgrade, and it seems to slightly reduce load times as well. Her original hard drive went out in her ps4 slim with an error message to install a new update after failing the software test on bootup. Tried to install software from a USB, and while it detected the software, the install would never complete. This is a huge sign of a bad hard drive, so I bout this listing to replace it. The replacement works great, and if you don't immediately have the funds for a solid state drive, I'd get this for the time being. Excellent hard drive and good performance. ... show more

It is a good hard drive and works well for what I need. It was the 2.5 for the small form factor I have. Sadly my unit did not allow for dual hard drives. so make sure you look into that before you buy. As for the cost, I saw better deals on the 3.5 than I do for 2.5 on there. So I paid more.

Excellent drive - very fast, fairly quiet. I am only disappointed that the drive does not have the expressive full panel "WD Black" label as pictured. The model number is correct, it is apparently new (it was not partitioned or formatted), and it does say WD Black in small print at the bottom of the irregularly shaped white label. So, there is no remedy for this; "it is what it is" and that's how I will use it. If appearance is important to you, BE ADVISED! ... show more
