My Xbox One hit full storage and I've been deleting games to make room for the handful I can fit in there (Looking at you CoD: Modern Warfare...) so I've been in the market for external storage for a while. I figured SSD would be the better option since I've heard PC Gamers express how much of a difference it made. All I can say is WOW. It's shockingly faster than I would've expected! I know USB-3 is a big factor but after transferring all my large games to the external I can say definitively that there is a notable difference in speed. Games like CoD, Destiny 2, The Witcher 3, Civ VI, all load roughly 50% faster than before. I can't say for certain how accurate that measurement is, but I can say that for games like Cod, Witcher, and Destiny I used to load a location in game, then go to the bathroom, get a snack from the kitchen, and respond to text messages all before the game finished loading. Now I have maybe 15-30 seconds tops before the loading finishes. This is a huge improvement to my gaming and I am ecstatic that this device was able to deliver. The price is pretty damn good too, and the fact that it doesn't need external power (unlike some other/regular HDs) is a huge plus. Strongly recommend.

Absolutely phenomenal product, it came in it’s box properly packaged, it’s lightweight and works perfectly for my Xbox One. Whether you’re buying this to increase storage on a gaming console or store data for traveling, I would highly recommend this product. It’s slim and small enough to fit in my small compartments of my backpack. The ONLY problem I have with this product, and it’s minute enough to not warrant a 4-star, is that while it’s advertised as 2 TB of storage, in reality it’s only 1.8 TB of storage. I don't quite understand the specifics of why it has 200 GB less than advertised, but I can imagine during the converting/formatting of the product during manufacturing has caused it to no longer “see” where the 200 GB has gone. I’m sure I could use their tech support to have fixed this issue, however, I've committed it and converted it to the Xbox One’s game storage and do not feel that tech support would be able to fix this issue without suggesting I format the SSD and lose about 1.2 TB of games.

I had a good experience with these but at first it was very frustrating. I don't know if it's WD fault, but basically when they came there was no drive letter assigned to them so they didn't show up in the file explorer. But I found a solution so I thought I'd put it out there. Open Control Pannel, type in Disk Management, right click on the drive with no letter, and choose to assign it. You may also want to format it to NFTS instead of exFAT so you can compress files and because it's basically an upgrade. Also, if your files aren't copying, it might be just one corrupted file and the others are okay, so instead of copying the whole folder, copy sub-folders a few at a time so you can narrow down where the problem is and move it away or delete it. There's been some hiccups, but once I figured out what was going on, these turned out to be really nice, really fast little hard drives.

If your Linux system doesn't mount the SSD it is likely that it doesn't recognize the exFAT file system. I "fixed" mine by using another system's Windows-10 Format Drive function which offers only two File Systems; exFAT and NTFS. I chose NTFS and deselected the Quick Format box. Be sure to specify a Volume Name. Continuing a box appears titled 'Formatting Drive' but it doesn't seem that anything is happening (and a Big BOO BOO for WD - there is *no* Drive Access light) but after about 10 minutes a little bit of green will begin to appear in the progress bar. It takes 2-3 hours to complete the format. As Linux will then mount the drive, Linux may then be used to reformat it with the File System of your choice. Note: A Quick Format may not work. Linux-R-Us!

I use on for macbook airs. I use for photos and music, as well as backing up 4 different macbook airs. Love the speed of the SSD as well as the dependability. I purchased this one because of an accident while backing up my macbook with my last back up HD. It was an HHD so it had the movable parts with the disks and the reading arm. It fell during back up and I lost everything on the drive. I love the security and speed of the SSD. Great purchase!

Using for a backup drive. I attempted to copy 350GB (200,000 files) of data to the drive, but ran out of space. Strange right, being a 500GB drive (actually 465GB free)? Turns out it's pre-formatted with exFAT file system with a HUGE 1024KB allocation unit size. In my case it meant that 50% of the storage was wasted, so at 300GB my 500GB drive ran out of space!! I reformatted (with QuickFormat option) to a 32KB AUS which reduced my wasted space to < 1% instead of 50%. If you use as a backup drive like me (not much I/O and not performance critical) you should do this also to maximize storage. If you use for high I/O activities and don't need all the storage you may want to leave as is or choose 256KB as a compromise. But people who don't know or understand this, will end up losing a large percentage of the storage space they paid for.

The title sums it up perfectly. You can fit it into just about any pocket you have! Transfer speeds are great and it's never failed me in the few months I've owned it thus far. I can't comment on the service as it has always functioned flawlessly and I've never had to contact them. For the speed size and efficientcy its perfect for the money. Downfall is it's a little small but I mean that's in the description 500g for a great price.
