21' Foot Version: As a manufacturing expert I found this to be very high quality. Given the cost, it represents a great value. The aluminum extrusions are well made and anodized, the end stands are sturdy, and the wheels are more than adequate. This unit has 3 pieces of overlapping aluminum that require some math based on how wide you want the system to be. To save yourself time, mark the middle piece center line with a sharpie. This will ensure you have an even amount telescoping to the end sections. It does require self tapping screws which were well made and cut easily into the aluminum. If you have an extra large phillips tip for your screw gun it will help. The instructions left a little to be desired but if you plan through the whole build before starting you will be able to figure it out. It came in two boxes and was well packed. One end of an extrusion had a small scratch from the box being dropped but it didn't impact it's design or operation. ... show more

I was skeptical due to reviews that said it was difficult to understand the instructions, but I found them clear and watched a YouTube video of someone installing this unit, which was helpful. I was able to adjust it to make it wider than my pool to ensure that is rolled up without snagging-just make sure to leave at least a few inches on with side so that it is wide enough. Drilling the holes in order to assemble using the included self tapping screws is easy provided you use a bit for metal and not wood, just capture the shavings for easy clean up. It does tend to want to fall over if you pull the entire cover at once, so I unwrap 1/2 and met it fall into a pile, then cover the pool, making sure I overlap the end of the cover so that pool water doesn’t run over the cover, then the rest comes unwrapped easily and the unit doesn’t fall over. I like the screw handle lock. For another pool I had another reel that was lower to the ground then this one and more stable, but prices for one of those was four times this one, so I took a chance and bought this model. I’m glad I did because it’s well made, all stainless steel and aluminum, with a plastic insert between the two to avoid galvanic corrosion. Good design, great price, easy to install, and looks good. ** Check Update Below I ordered the VINGLI 21 Feet Pool Cover Reel because I’m tired of wrestling a solar cover by myself, and on first impression this thing actually looks like it should be solid. The aluminum tubes feel sturdy, the stainless legs look like they’ll hold up outside, and the wheels are chunky enough that I was expecting a heavy duty setup once it was assembled. It’s the kind of reel that, on paper and in the listing, looks like it’s going to be a huge quality of life upgrade for anyone with a larger pool. But assembly is where it went off the rails fast. My kit is missing piece number six, which is supposed to help secure the handle assembly, and the bigger problem is I can’t even properly mount the wheel because the hardware or pin setup that should lock it onto the shaft is not there. In the picture it shows it as item #17 but it... and the hole it is supposed to go into are missing. It looks like there should be a pre-drilled hole to secure that pin and my wheel assembly does not have it. I watched multiple videos thinking I was losing my mind, but it really comes down to missing parts or a wheel component that’s not manufactured correctly. The reel itself seems well built, but it doesn’t matter how tough it is if you can’t finish the build. I will be reaching out to the vendor on Monday to get the missing parts or a replacement wheel, and I’ll update this review as soon as the vendor responds and I can actually complete the assembly. Mistakes happen, I just hope their service after the sale is as good as I hope it is. UPDATE: As of today, I have sent at least 2-3 email requests for help and called 3 or 4 times and received no answer from their support line. It rolls into a voice-mail. I have left a message but no return call. This might be going back if they don't step-up and make this right. As of today, it is still sitting in pieces on my back patio. O.k., today I have received the following message and replied accordingly. (2/11) Will provide my final review as soon as it is completely built. Dear Customer, Thank you for your reply.     • Poor quality clips and straps

Very difficult to take it on and off when you have a non rectangular, odd shaped pool. A big problem is the clips and straps. They are very poor quality. The clips won't stay closed and slip off the solar cover, plus they are already breaking - and I bought the reel not even a month ago!

I just bought a house with an 18 x 36 in ground pool. The house and the pool came with a solar cover. From what I can tell it is a heavy gauge solar cover. Many years ago, I had above ground pools. Taking the solar cover on and off was a pain. So much so that I gave up on solar covers. This pool came with a solar cover that would take two people to pull it on and off. I knew that I was going to need some help. After a lot of research, I decided on this cover reel system. I saw many reels that sagged and bent and I didn't want that. I got the 21 foot reel and only extended it 19 feet. It works great!!!! I can roll up my cover in a minute. It sags a little; but like I said, I have a heavy gauge cover. It doesn't seem like it will buckle, but I do support the middle with a bucket when it is rolled for an extended period. It is Spring (early May). I can roll up my cover in less than two minutes. Then float around and cover it back up when I am done. Covering it alone take 2 - 3 minutes. If my wife helps, less than 30 seconds. Love this reel. ... show more
