I am pleasantly surprised by this device — it’s sturdier than I expected, though an average-size 10yo could easily damage it. We have a 40x18 pool and the solar cover doesn’t sag at all in the middle. Hopefully it survives daily use, I’m a little worried my kids will bend the aluminum pipes. I’ve had it on the pool a few days now and it’s growing on me as I figure out it’s quirks. It’s not difficult to assemble, but as others have noted the directions aren’t the best. NOTE: This thing does NOT make taking the cover easier for us, it’s definitely a two-person job unless you have it anchored really well. Also the first day the wind blew it into the pool... needless to say you should anchor it! I’m pretty happy with it so far! My only regret is not making it wider before putting the screws in (see pictures, the cover is hard to get on perfectly and overlaps like 8 inches each side). At 18’ wide I’m worried going wider will reduce stability of the aluminum pipes, but the overlap is annoying.

** Check Update Below I ordered the VINGLI 21 Feet Pool Cover Reel because I’m tired of wrestling a solar cover by myself, and on first impression this thing actually looks like it should be solid. The aluminum tubes feel sturdy, the stainless legs look like they’ll hold up outside, and the wheels are chunky enough that I was expecting a heavy duty setup once it was assembled. It’s the kind of reel that, on paper and in the listing, looks like it’s going to be a huge quality of life upgrade for anyone with a larger pool. But assembly is where it went off the rails fast. My kit is missing piece number six, which is supposed to help secure the handle assembly, and the bigger problem is I can’t even properly mount the wheel because the hardware or pin setup that should lock it onto the shaft is not there. In the picture it shows it as item #17 but it... and the hole it is supposed to go into are missing. It looks like there should be a pre-drilled hole to secure that pin and my wheel assembly does not have it. I watched multiple videos thinking I was losing my mind, but it really comes down to missing parts or a wheel component that’s not manufactured correctly. The reel itself seems well built, but it doesn’t matter how tough it is if you can’t finish the build. I will be reaching out to the vendor on Monday to get the missing parts or a replacement wheel, and I’ll update this review as soon as the vendor responds and I can actually complete the assembly. Mistakes happen, I just hope their service after the sale is as good as I hope it is. UPDATE: As of today, I have sent at least 2-3 email requests for help and called 3 or 4 times and received no answer from their support line. It rolls into a voice-mail. I have left a message but no return call. This might be going back if they don't step-up and make this right. As of today, it is still sitting in pieces on my back patio. O.k., today I have received the following message and replied accordingly. (2/11) Will provide my final review as soon as it is completely built. Dear Customer, Thank you for your reply. This is essential if you have a solar pool cover. It is fairly simple to assemble. Just make sure you align the straps into the slots and space them out properly. The instructions don't specify several things, such as whether the clasps that clamp onto the cover should face up or down. I found that it doesn't matter, as long as they all face the same direction. You will want to order a reel that is wider than your pool. If your pool is 18 feet, order the 21 foot size. The covers never roll up evenly on both sides, so you need the extra space to account for that. I evaluated several brands, and this seems to be the most durable. The screw knob that is supposed to hold the reel in place after rolling up the cover doesn't do much, so I used a bungee cord around the cover and that worked great.

Holds the solar cover nicely. Tips over in the wind. The straps that came with it are ok but the “snap” connectors that go on the solar cover don’t work well. I bought different ones that do work.

I have a weird kidney shaped pool with different height uneven rocks as borders, and large plants/palms right next to them. Dont know whose hardscaping idea this was, but its mine to live with now. Given the severe limitations and unevenness of my pool edges, I have to try and fit any pool reel into my setup. Ordered the 21" size reel and have now been using it for 2 years in my North California located pool. Setup required 2 people just to assemble it, and hook a 20" x 36" pool cover onto it. Dont fall for the kid turning the reel ad pics, once a large cover is on it only an adult with some strength can rotate the reel. The bright yellow paint begins to fade off after 12-18 months of being outside, but the reel mechanics seem to work for the most part. The first thing that seems to be wearing off is the tightening/locking bolt for the reel rotation handle. Outside of that everything is holding up ok so far. I would give this another 2 years of life at the current rate of wear and tear. So pay for this if you think a 4-5 year timeline is acceptable for you, at this cost. Another thing that I think would have been better is if the non-handle end was heavier/sturdier metal (rather than aluminium), so that end doesnt topple over when turning a heavy cover from the other handle end and esp when its on a uneven surface. Given my pools limitations and reel options, I think this is still a good buy for me. Good luck!
