I bought this inexpensive device so I could use my 30 AMP dryer outlet to charge my VW ID.4. To install a dedicated 50 AMP circuit in my garage would have cost close to $2,000 (including the charging device). Ouch. Even with the tax credit, kind of pricey. I realize that a charger drawing 40 AMPs is going to charge faster than one drawing 24 AMPs, but I thought this would do the job. In fact, it exceeded my expectations. It was plug and play. In my first charging session I was adding 20 miles per hour, which is more than enough for my needs. What I wasn't expecting is that the display on the device shows charging session information. No fancy app or anything, but it tells you length of session and KWH consumption. In this case, 48 KWH and eight hours. It shut off, as it should, when it reached 90 percent. The car added an indicated 160 miles of range in that time. This is a simple, but effective device, and, obviously, inexpensive compared to what else is out there. Hyundai is selling the Tucson Plug-in with a 12A Level 1 charger despite much of the marketing stating it can charge in less than 10 hours. You need 16A to do that. The provided charger takes 11.5 hrs. I intend to install a 240 outlet in my garage, with some form of 32A charger and upgrading to Level 2, but this purchase was worthwhile because it’s the perfect fit for keeping in the car for trips or emergencies. I’m just gonna leave the Hyundai charger at my girlfriend’s house or something. This will do the job while I shop for Level 2 chargers and electricians. Plugged it in and it immediately showed 1.6 kW in the car, and finally I got to see the an estimated charge time that made sense. If using for Level 1, check your breaker and make sure you have a 20A breaker for your garage or wherever you’re Plugging in. ... show more

  • Excellent Charging Cord for Plug-in hybred for reasonable price.

This charging cord is working on 120 V, but I plan to install a 240V outlet outside for faster charging. The left picture shows the charger plugged into 120 V outlet. I have placed a Kw h meter in line so I can keep track of the charging cost. The charging cord come with a 240V plug with a 120v adapter cord that works with a 120V outlet. Most of my driving is local so I have 520 miles since purchasing the charging cord. My gasoline tank holds just over 8 gallons and shows just under a half tank remaining, so it is doing very well. The charging cord has a tight fitting protective cover to protect the electrical ontacts when it is not plugged in and charging. I am very pleased, especially when considering the price difference between this product others which do the same thing, charge the car at 120v or 240v. ... show more

The pictures make this charger look huge compared to a car, it looks like the body of the charger is the size of a car tire! Rest assured the body is a little bigger than a dollar bill @ 7.4 x 2.99". It works great and is a great value. And yes it does work at both 110 and 220v. It isn't rocket science. It is hard wired for 220V which you just plug into a dryer or stove type outlet. And if you want to use a regular 110V outlet just add the short dongle cord which converts the 220V plug into a 110V plug... easy peasy! My old charger had a pull tab on the dust cover for the EV plug so I was a little weirded out when this one didn't have that feature, but you just grab the whole thing and pull and it comes off easy enough. The only thing this one lacks is rubber covers for the screw holes on the bottom of the body, so if you use it in the rain water might be able to get in it. My old charger lost a rubber cover and water got in and killed it. So just make sure it is not left upside down in the rain and not sitting on the ground. The 25' cord is nice and long. It seems well built. Now I have the option to plug it into a 220V outlet to charge faster which my old charger didn't have and which a lot of other chargers cost a premium to buy. I needed a Level 2 charger that could plug into my girlfriend's dryer outlet, because upgrading her system for a 40-amp outlet that would work with my Bolt EUV's original charger would have cost a fortune. I shopped around quite a bit, and this charger stood out because, at 24 Amp output, it could fully utilize her 30 Amp circuit. I was concerned about the low cost. Could a safe, quality product really cost this little? But the reviews were very good, so I decided to give it a try. I'm so glad I did. This charger is compact, light and easy to use. It has a helpful display that shows you all the info an EV nerd could want, and it has a simple one-button control to choose output power current from 10 amps to 24. It has a nice long cable. I struggle to see value in name brands when there are products so much cheaper, especially when they have no moving parts. I already had an extra NEMA 6-20 outlet in my garage from a central vac that is there so I figured why not use it for my new Grand Cherokee 4XE a plug in hybrid. The charger that came with Jeep is a 120v 8 amp charger and took 12 hours to charge the 25 miles of range in that vehicle. This is just over 4 hours if empty. Heck of a difference for not much money.
