This a HIGH TECH-HIGH POWER charger and I can't believe how inexpensive it is! I recently bought a 2012 Chevy Volt hybrid and new nothing about EVs ...until now. The charger supplied with the car was working intermittently and was probably the original factory supplied charger. I traced it out to bad pin in the plug and if I had wanted to, I could have purchased "plug kit" but charging unit itself was old and didn't have all the upgraded digital tech the new ones have. HINT: If your charger is more than a few years old then you might want to buy a new one to take advantage of the upgraded technology as it may help with extending your existing battery's life. DON'T WASTE YOUR TIME IF YOU NEED A CHARGER! I have been using my new one over a month and it has been TOTALLY PROBLEM FREE AND EASY TO PLUG IN ON BOTH ENDS. I recently retired from a 45 year career in the Electronics Contract Manufacturing field as a Process Engineer....I know tech, I know and had and how to produce quality products. THIS ONE IS QUALITY at a BAARGAIN. (I attest that although I seem to rave about this charger it's just that my head has been wrapped around electronic products for 45 years and, even though I am retired my brain still processes every detail. I always examine every detail of a product, out of habit and curiosity...I receive NO COMPENSATION for this review nor would I ever accept any....BOB D.

I purchased mine about a month ago. It works as advertised. I get about 37 miles per hour charge at 40 Amp setting on my Tesla model 3. I initially had an issue with the NACS connector not fully latching to the Tesla charge port causing the Tesla to default to only 16 Amp max current. I really had to provide excessive force to get NACS connector to successfully latch to Tesla and charge at 40 Amps. I exchanged a couple of emails with support team explaining the problem. We are talking maybe 1 mm of margin. I suggested to support that I can file down the edge of charger NACS connector by a small amount to see if it would more easily insert and latch into the Tesla charge port. Support team gave me their blessing to go ahead and try, and if it doesn’t work out, they would work with me to resolve. I didn’t need to do any “filing down” since it seems to latch a little easier now from natural wear from multiple insertions. I’m giving 5 stars for the excellent product and prompt and positive support provided. I decided to write this detailed review in case anyone else had similar issue and to support team to check on and possibly improve margins on the NACS connector interface.

Much faster than my stock charger. This charger is excellent! It’s a fabulous value replacement for my stock Ford EV charger which kept faulting no matter what I did. It is very easy to use, is compact, and hangs easily on the wall in my garage. The length of the cable is fine for me and is sufficient for the distance from the center wall of my garage to the driveway. Very pleased.

I'm a big fan of Subsun Chargers and I use another Subsun charger at home, so I was happy to get a chance to review their newest unit. I think in general, they make a great product at a great price. Here are my impressions of this particular unit. This is the J1172 version and it should be compatible with practically everything that isn't using the Tesla NA adapter. It plugs into a standard 240V Nema 14-50R plug. It does not work on 120V. The good: I'd like to mention that this unit goes up to 50Amps. It is not limited to 40 amps as shown on the title (although it does say 50 amps on the description). It is very fast, faster than even 48amp chargers (which is the most you can usually get). Subsun chargers in general have a minimalist design, with many units having only 1 button. This unit is also the same way. The unit is very well made, with thick cabling that doesn't heat up. The J1172 plug has a O ring inside that keeps moisture out which is a nice touch that is missing on a lot of other units. The cable is long. If you add up the charging unit itself, it is close to 27'. It includes a handy storage bag. It has a mounting bracket with all included hardware. It is also pretty easy to use, you just set the current (number of amps), the delay (number of hours) and plug in and you are good to go. It tells you the amount of power that you used for that charging session (in kwh) The bad: The screen is small. The text is small (at least for my 50-some year-old eyes). The screen also doesn't do well in direct sunlight (although most people probably use it inside their garage, in which case it is fine). The one button can be tricky to use. You do quick presses to cycle through the options and long presses to select. The manual is poor. It seems to be a general one that they use for many models and it doesn't explain clearly how to cycle through the options (although you can figure it out). The button is not a power button, you can't really turn off the unit with it (as far as I can tell), it is only for cycling and selecting options. Finally, I will mention that I was impressed with the performance of this unit. No unit I have ever tried actually reaches the rated current. I was able to get over 46amps on this unit with my Volvo XC40 Recharge. I think it's pretty darn good. It's a good EV charger, as long as you can get over the smallish screen, it's a winner.
