We have lived in our home for 8 years and have never been able to enjoy our patio in the summer because of the sun. For gatherings and dinners we've had to place patio umbrellas everywhere and esthetically it looked bad and still failed to truly cool off the patio. I found these shades, and I am shocked. Instantly the patio felt cooler after installing just 1! My husband and I couldn't believe how well they're working. The only downfall is that when the wind is blowing they retract back if you don't secure the carabiner to the other end (picture). We are trying to think of ways to secure it without getting up and down on a ladder. Overall I am so happy with these. We live in OH so we're planning on taking them down in the winter but if you've thinking about them... don't hesitate!

I have a modest sized outdoor deck (11’x14’) that gets a lot of direct high afternoon sun. This was a perfect solution for me instead of a cantilever umbrella or fixed sun shade sails. The umbrella would have added so much bulk, even when closed, to the space and the sails do not have the option to adjust after installation. With these shades I can draw all or some of the shades closed or open depending on how much sun I want. When they are all drawn closed, as pictured, I can enjoy my deck in the afternoon in shaded comfort, even on a really hot day. They seem to work well with protecting my furniture against sun damage too. I’ve had them for almost 1 year now and prefer to keep them in a fixed open position by latching them to fixed anchors. With that, they’ve held up nicely through rough winds and heavy rains. I had them mounted with about 8” of separation between each panel so that the space didn’t feel so closed in when all the shades are drawn. I wish I could have mounted them higher off the ground, but my house parameters do not permit. Although, as it is, it feels alot like a cozy cabana and everyone I have over really likes it. I’ve had compliment about it feeling like a resort space. I’m very happy I found this shade option because it’s just perfect for my outdoor space. Installation, however, wasn’t so simple. I hired my trusty handyman to do the job and it took him about 4 hours to mount the 4 panels. He also mentioned there were parts missing that he had to purchase at the local hardware store. But since I didn’t have to deal with that frustration, I give the product 5 stars. (:

My husband and I build this pergola in our back yard and bought 11 of the retractable shade sails. Not even a year later and they’re ripping, fraying and have holes through the material. We made sure to pull them back during any high wind events and they seem to not be able to withstand normal winds.

We have an atrium in the middle of our house and it HEATS up our entire house. I’ve been debating on putting tint on our very large windows but we decided to try these shades instead. After measuring our dimensions, we decided to get two smaller shades rather than 1 big one. Our atrium measure 7ft by 10ft - so we got two 3ft by 10ft shades. We didn’t want to risk the shades touching the walls and we don’t mind a little light getting through. Now our entire house doesn’t get hot and the shades look great! When installing the shades, one side of the wall is where you anchor the shades and the other side is where you pull them open towards - just like one of the reviews on here stated, you should drill the anchored side just slightly higher than the open side to prevent sagging. Highly recommend this product!

Our space to cover is approximately 8'x13' about 10' from the ground, I ordered 2x 4'x16' to run side by side. I adjusted my installation so there was only about 3" between them, since we had a small light fixture hanging from the pergola. They have been up for nearly a year, through some pretty bad Colorado wind storms. We try to keep them closed up during storms, but without snow yet this season, I seem to forget sometimes. Overall, they are a great value. Installation was pretty simple and smooth once I figured out exactly how everything needed to be attached. The shade braces that slide along the cable have 3 holes per side to allow for a bit of adjustment for the cable connection brackets. Plus I had to install an additional piece of wood near the house to attach the cable tension mounts properly to the structure. They must be surface mounted for perpendicular force, if they are mounted incorrectly they could be ripped out from the force of the cable and weight of the shade. See photos for proper installation orientation. Instead of cutting the excess wire off, I wound it up out of the way incase i want to make future modifications. Both shades came complete with everything I needed to install them, plus each came with a rod to open and close them.
