I like this set for the value and quality

I like the size, it was easy to put together. Mainly it was just the base as I remember and then some bolts to secure the umbrella to the stand. I only needed help lifting the umbrella and slipping it on the base. I'm a woman putting this together. This was purchased as a 2nd umbrella to provide more privacy from the other side of our patio. Everything seems to be aluminum including the handle which I wanted. I heard on other brands that the plastic handles and cranks don't last long. It would have been great if the base were included and didnt need to be purchased separately. I ordered the base from the same company. I can remove the fillable sections if I wish to move the umbrella. I filled the base with water. It gives more stability with water than using sand. Plus sand would be an additional cost and messy. And, sand does not offer the same weight compared to water in weighing the base down. It NEEDS something sturdy to hold the umbrella from falling forward and in place. If you attempt to put the umbrella up without a filled base it will turn over. For the price point this works well so far. It moves smoothly right and left and will turn all the way around using the foot pedal. We purchased another high end one from Costco that also is able to tilt right to left In addition, as this one does not. But I knew that before I purchased and our other one has unlimited up and down settings, unlike this one. We didn't want to spend too much for the secondary umbrella. It compares in being quiet and doesn't make any noise with any wind. It moves very little. I always put our umbrellas down at night or if the weather is not ideal. I plan to bring the umbrellas in over the winter to preserve them. If I had to do it over I might have purchased a generic fillable base because I could have saved almost 50% on the base I found after the purchase, and it would have held more water. But it would have been more bulky to step over. This umbrella seemed to have very good value for the money. I have no regrets on purchasing this cantilever umbrella. I saved a little money purchasing the red one. It goes well with our denim blue looking patio sectional and our other light silvery grey cantilever umbrella set. If your looking for one this is good quality for the price. You might want to give this one a try. I would definitely purchase this again without hesitation. Especially at the price I paid. I've been using this everyday since I got it. Very, very happy with it. If I had found this one first I would have been happy buying 2 of these to serve my purposes. Love it! ... show more

Superbly Engineered

Love this umbrella. Once you get used to how it works, you'll find it's super flexible for different angles and positions. It is sturdy yet bends in the wind to avoid breaking. I mistakenly left it wide open when a strong wind storm hit. Even though the wind blew it out if the base and onto the ground, hitting the pergola on the way down, there was no damage to the arms or fabric because of the way the arms bent with the wind and fall. Fantastic product engineering. Genius design for moving up, down, spreading out, as well as securing in the base. It covers a pretty wide area when up full. I invested in several cans of Scotchgard to waterproof it - you'll need six+ 42 ounce cans to cover it well; I just did the top, not the underside. Good enough I think. It's easy to assemble, although the directions are pretty lacking; typical for these kinds of products. If you are used to assembling this kind of stuff and use common sense, you'll have it together in under 1/2 hour. You'll need two people when it comes to inserting the main pole into the base; it's heavy and needs to be guided in, so one person lifts and the other guides. The rest can be done by one person. I'm also adding a shout out to their customer service. When it arrived it was missing the base piece that holds the center pole. I was pretty miffed as I had already taken everything out of the box and did not want to send it back. I went through Amazon vendor contact, explained, sent pictures and asked that they send me the missing piece. They are in China. They sent another complete umbrella that arrived a few days later, no charge (!). Now I have a 100% backup if anything breaks, and if not, a total 2nd umbrella free. Not bad! Can't beat it for the price (plus base and Scotchgard). If you're hesitating, don't - great product. And be sure to buy the base, which you simply fill up with water for the weight, which is enough to secure it unless you leave it open in high winds like I did. Nice for the money but not very robust.

It's nice but it isn't built to robust standards. I see it lasting less than our old model we purchased locally from a hardware box store. Due to the lower cost of this unit, if we replace it every 3-4 years, we'll keep buying them.

Update: We like the first one so much that we bought another. Very relieved that the old one hadn't faded at all after 7 months in the Texas sun and they both match in shade of red. Same as the first one - came in perfect shape, great quality and put together easy. Now we have complete privacy around the pool. We bought this primarily to provide privacy for our pool. Love it! We looked at a TON of umbrellas online and glad we went with this one. My wife only had one criteria - it had to be red! Heheh. She loves the red color and is amazed at how easy this huge thing is for her to use. As the description and most reviewers say - it requires a heavy base. We bought four 16" pavers and three medium sized retaining wall blocks at Lowes that all match our pool deck pretty well. We put the pavers on the umbrella leg flanges and arranged the blocks on top of the pavers - actually looks great and you can still use the rotation foot pedal. That got us to around 200 pounds of base and this thing doesn't move at all, even in a breeze. That said, I would definitely take down the umbrella if it was really windy as it's huge and makes for a giant sail. Assembly was a breeze, just follow the directions in order. All of the parts were there and nothing had any scratches or damage. We've had this up for almost two months and still going strong. ... show more

I barely write reviews, especially years later however, this was such a great product I had to come back and let people know. I live in the suburban Windy City of Chicago and this umbrella is now going on It’s fourth year. The color is still vibrant red, no leaks and I’m purchasing a second one because of the great quality for another area in my yard. The umbrella has been outside since purchased but covered with an umbrella cover when not in use and during the winter months. I have used this umbrella a ton and have had some really questionable wind. I did purchase the water filled weights. You must keep them full with water in order for them to support the umbrella weight- Refill every few months. I do need to replace them after being outside 7/24/365 for the last four years as there are some small holes that leak if it’s not full. Great umbrella and reasonable price! Buy it!!! ... show more

Nice umbrella; assembly had a few gotchas

I bought this umbrella to go over our spa when the previous umbrella finally broke. The instructions and parts list was excellent and very clear. I only needed help to turn and raise the umbrella to put it on the base. It really is for two people because it is so long and the weight is bottom heavy. The interesting thing was the umbrella may have been a return because some of the parts were on the umbrella. That sounds easier because the parts were connected, but they were not on the umbrella. There are four ribs of the eight that require attachment of another section and then to secure it with a screw. On mine the four rib sections were already connected by a screw that I had to take out to get the rod section on the umbrella and then screw it in. I was concerned I would strip them getting them out and then on again. Inside one rib, a small piece of metal was residue from the manufacturing process, which made it impossible to put the last rib section in. I had to file it out. It was all together! It was OK because I was not in a hurry and the issues were solvable. So be prepared. :) One feature I don't like is the rotation is done by stepping on the pedal and then manually rotating the post. My last umbrella allowed me to rotate it by the pedal and not touch it. In Arizona, that is a big deal in the summer when the metal post is exceedingly hot. I'll need to use my oven mitts. Seems decent. Wrong color.

This cantilever umbrella seems sturdy, and functions well, so far. I've had it on my deck for a couple months now. It's very large and seems to be decent quality. It does a great job of shading the deck and the tilting function is very useful as the sun sets. It does catch the wind a great deal, so think about where you're going to put it. There is a vent at the top, but even in a gentle breeze, it moves quite a lot. But they sent me the wrong color. I ordered tan and they sent me red. There was no way I'm sending it back, so I guess I'm stuck with red. I think they do that on purpose. If they're having a hard time selling a particular color, they "mistakenly" ship you the wrong one, knowing you're not going to send it back. It's simply too much of a pain. ... show more
