Note: Do not use this splitter with 50-amp circuits, as it is not rated for higher current. Can I just use a Y-cable splitter to connect the dryer and EV charger? No! Using a Y connector would allow both the dryer and EV charger to run at the same time, overloading the standard 30 amp household circuit and creating an unsafe environment. What if my dryer isn't in my garage? The Splitter Switch requires 240V access within proximity of your EV. You may need to use a 240V extension cable or have an electrician run a line to the proximity of your vehicle. Is the Splitvolt Splitter Switch safety certified? Yes! We've been using this splitter since January 2025 for a Nissan Leaf in the driveway, and it's worked out beautifully. With the 220V dryer outlet, the car charges 4x faster than the 110V outlet. The SplitVolt automatically switches off EV charging when the dryer is in use. Unless you run your dryer a lot, this is the perfect arrangement for an older house that lacks the electrical panel necessary for a dedicated level 2 charger. It would cost us several thousand dollars to install a new panel & run the cables, which eventually probably we should do, but in the meantime, this unit serves admirably for a fraction of the cost. There's not much else to say other than that it was easy to install. The only other thing needed was a 220V cable to go through a window to the driveway, plus an adapter for the car's own charging cable, done. After one year of use, it is still working fine as far as we can tell. If that changes, I'll update this review. But so far, steady as she goes. ... show more

Working great in a hot Texas garage

We got a Model 3 for my mom. Her older house did not have enough capacity for a dedicated EV outlet. It was going to be crazy expensive to essentially rewire her whole house. So we gave this a try instead. She has been using it for about 5 months with no issue. She has it in her garage where the washer/dryer is. She lives in Texas, so it gets hot in there. We set the Tesla to charge only at night. As far as I can tell, it has worked just fine with her setup. Great option for her situation. ... show more

The $6,000 Problem Solver: Level 2 Charging for Apartment Dwellers

Living in an apartment with a 100A service, I was quoted $6,000 for a panel upgrade and dedicated line just to get Level 2 charging. That’s a non-starter. This Splitvolt NEMA 10-30 Switch allowed me to bypass that entire headache by safely sharing my existing 240V dryer outlet with my EV. My Setup: The 100ft Long-Haul Because my dryer is in the back of the unit and the car is... well, not in the laundry room... I paired this with a 100ft 14-50 extension cable and a 10-30 to 14-50 conversion cable. The Splitvolt Role: It acts as the "brain." It plugs into the wall (10-30) and gives me two outlets. My dryer has priority; if the dryer starts, the car charging stops automatically. No blown breakers, no manual swapping. The Cable Pairing: Using a long cable like this requires quality. I ensured my cable was heavy-duty 100% copper to handle the continuous 24A load without overheating. Performance & Safety Specs Power Management: Since it's on a 30A circuit, the unit is capped at a 24A output (the 80% NEC safety rule). You can also set your car/charger to limit its draw to 24A as a safety failover. Built-in Protection: It has an internal circuit breaker and real-time power display. Even with the 100ft run, the voltage drop has been negligible, and the unit stays cool to the touch during 8-hour charging sessions. Certification: It is cETLus certified, which gave me peace of mind (and likely my landlord, too) compared to the unbranded "Y-splitters" found elsewhere. Pros & Cons Pros: Instant Level 2: Went from 3 miles/hour (Level 1) to about 18-20 miles/hour. Automatic Switching: Zero user intervention needed once it's plugged in. Facebook: Kia Niro EV User Experience Massive Savings: Saved thousands on electrical work and panel upgrades. Noise: Silent as a mouse fart. Complexity: plug and play, the easiest device I've used. Not much else to say, functions as it should and doesn't hinder the use of the dryer. Cons: Slower than Dedicated 50A: You’re limited to 24A, but for overnight charging, it’s more than enough. So far so good. Kia dealer didn’t tell us that we aren’t supposed to use the level 1 charger that the car (Kia sportage plug in hybrid) came with for regular charging. Had to find that out by reading the manual. Don’t have an extra 220 outlet for a level 2, so tried the split volt system. Works great by sharing the 30 amp dryer plug with the EV charger. The system transitions between dryer and car as described. Only 3 days in but seems great. Not cheap but so convenient if you don’t have enough household juice to add a new 220-240 plug. And way less cost than paying an electrician thousands of $$ to add another plug. Takes about 2 hours for a full charge. ... show more

Saved me big $$. Works like a charm

I use my level 2 Tesla charger and my clothes dryer. I’ve have 0 issues so far and it’s been a few months. The digital screen is nice because I can see if my car is charging from inside the garage with just a glance. This product saved me hundreds or even thousands of dollars on an electrician.

Digital display problem. Bad customer service

10-30 splitter works as intended, but digital display started giving out after first use. Unable to get a replacement through amazon. AMAZON said they can't help me get a replacement. Had to contact splitvolt directly, but getting a replacement has been very challenging. They take a few days to reply to your email. Just so I could still be able to charge my car, I asked them if they could send me a replacement before I send my current one back to them. Instead, they want me get a refund back from Amazon at the lower prime price that I purchased it at, then purchase another one which now cost a lot more than I paid forbthis current unit. That makes no sense. All I'm asking for is a replacement. Why can't they send me a replacement, then I send back my current unit when I receive the replacement? ... show more

Great short-term or long-term solution for charging an EV

Given that it will likely take some time before being able to have a permanent EV charger installed at my house, I needed a practical Level 2 charging solution for the interim. This was definitely it! The product arrived quickly and was completely as described. The SplitVolt Splitter Switch has been amazing, allowing me to keep my dryer plugged in while allowing me to plug in my EV charging cord in on occasion. I also like the built in breaker function which gives me a bit of piece of mind from a safety standpoint. Even if/when I get a permanent EV charging unit installed at my home, I like having this as a backup option. This was a great solution! ... show more

Auto Switch works, Chatter when dryer port sensed

The auto switch works fine when the load is placed on either the dryer or the EV port. My only complaint is the constant low volume chatter sound when the dryer port is being operated. Whether the dryer drum is turning or not, the Splitvolt has a chattering sound, if the dryer is turned on. (Control panel on, drum not turning.) Once the drum and heater are turned on, the Splitvolt can be heard switching the relay to the dryer port and the EV LED extinguishes. (But the chatter can still be heard) The EV port is the default mode if there is no load on either port. (Also, no chatter in this mode) The Dryer port has priority if there is a load request detected on both ports. Both ports cannot be operated at the same time, the typical dryer circuit would not handle the wattage demand. This is normal and the reason you would use this switch box. When the dryer is turned off, it switches back to the EV port. Dryer power is not displayed in Splitvolt display when running, only the EV power is shown when it is running. If this low volume chatter is normal, there should be an explanation in the manual. If I'm contacted with an explanation, I'll update this review. ... show more
