I did a lot of research comparing the different brands of battery powered pole saws before buying this one. I've used it about two hours now and am very pleased with the results. The angled cutting head has the saw cutting down on the branch rather cutting into the side. The built-in extension allows you to quickly extend the length by a couple of feet rather than having to add another section like some of the brands do. Even fully extended, it doesn't feel wobbly while the weight is less than most other brands. It has plenty of power, cuts quickly, and the battery life is good. Chain adjustment is quick and doesn't require tools. Some people say it leaks a little chain bar oil when stored. That's true, but all of my gas powered chain saws do too, so I just lay it where the cutting head is on a piece of cardboard. I can't speak of its longevity since it is new, but at the point, I highly recommend it. ... show more

Great buy it helped me trim my trees with ease. It also doesn't leak at all although you do need to pay attention to the cap. Im not sure if it was me or the vibration on the bar while cutting, but the cap fell off after an hour of cutting or so. The chain was easy to install and adjust and also came with a battery and battery charger. Looks beutiful too. When I was cutting the branches the chain came loose over time, but no big deal since you can just tighten and keep going. The safety on the push button is fantastic to, it's great to prevent accidents or my child trying to play with it. As for what i saw it looks well made nothing flimsy. The battery lasted me about a little over an hour of being used and charges pretty fast. If you notice the chain not cutting just recheck it, I did the same mistake of installing it backwards. I've spent countless hours cutting down tree branches with a manual extended cutter and just accepted the fact it would be a length job. I always thought about getting a pole saw but was concerned about the reviews on how they aren't reliable, chain issues and generally hard to use. I already have a few Skil tools and purchased this pole saw on discount and omg, I should have gotten this long ago. I can clear and maintain every tree I have in the time that it took to clear only one before. The tool has some weight but it adds to stability and cutting force. I have yet to run out of battery using the included 2.5ah pack. The assembly took a little long because the chain was a pain to adjust to the proper tension as well as it being a bit awkward to add chain oil without spilling. All in all, very happy with the pole saw and I can see many years of use in the future. ... show more

This is a great pole saw. I’m getting too old and out of shape to cut down several limbs in a day using my manual pole saw so this Skil pole saw has been a lifesaver. The battery held a charge long enough to cut all the limbs down on a fairly large tree with some life still left. The charge time is extremely fast. After approximately 30 minutes, I was almost charged enough to take down several thick branches from another tree. I am extremely happy with this product. This has to be the best kept secret in the world of cordless polesaws. I was considering buying one of these from the well known red brand of tools as I have many of those 18v batteries. I simply could not justify the cost. That model also lacks an collapsible pole and a tilted head. I then bought a Chinesium unit that had good reviews. That mistake was returned the same day as it had no power and the battery life of a fruit fly. Enter the Skill 40 and I am as happy as Paul Bunyan. The extensible pole is heavy duty with good reach. The tool-less chain temsion adjustment knob makes setup a breeze. The power is incredible. I was slicing through large branches like a hot knife through butter. Plenty of speed with plenty of torque. Right up there with the red, light years better than the Chinesium. After cutting down a large number of branches, including hardwoods, I figured the battery must be due for a charge. I was positively surprised to see it still at 3 bars. At full extension the power head can be a bit unwieldy due to weight. Still, no worse than other units in its class. As with all things chainsaw related, you just need to be careful. Oh yes, it also has a 5 year warranty. This all adds up to being a saw that performs on par with far more ecpensive units for only a few dollars more than far less capable units. For 90% of folks, this is the one to get. ... show more
