I did a lot of research comparing the different brands of battery powered pole saws before buying this one. I've used it about two hours now and am very pleased with the results. The angled cutting head has the saw cutting down on the branch rather cutting into the side. The built-in extension allows you to quickly extend the length by a couple of feet rather than having to add another section like some of the brands do. Even fully extended, it doesn't feel wobbly while the weight is less than most other brands. It has plenty of power, cuts quickly, and the battery life is good. Chain adjustment is quick and doesn't require tools. Some people say it leaks a little chain bar oil when stored. That's true, but all of my gas powered chain saws do too, so I just lay it where the cutting head is on a piece of cardboard. I can't speak of its longevity since it is new, but at the point, I highly recommend it. ... show more

I had a large 8" ponderosa pine limb twist under heavy snow and come down high into a large crab apple tree and needed to cut it piece by piece back to the trunk. Decided to try this instead of $1000 for a tree service with a bucket and it worked. All I had to do was get the blade in place over the limb and hit the power. Very fast chain cuts large limbs beautifully by weight of unit alone. Would want something smaller for normal tree trimming, but I needed the 10" blade and it worked great. ... show more

This is a great pole saw. I’m getting too old and out of shape to cut down several limbs in a day using my manual pole saw so this Skil pole saw has been a lifesaver. The battery held a charge long enough to cut all the limbs down on a fairly large tree with some life still left. The charge time is extremely fast. After approximately 30 minutes, I was almost charged enough to take down several thick branches from another tree. I am extremely happy with this product. I have only cut a few large walnut branches so far. It made easy work of them. They were 4 to 5 inch diameter. No problem for the saw. Seems to be a durable saw. Good power and easy to use. Would have been nice to have included the pruner like a lot of those brands you have never heard of.

Bought this instead of a gasoline powered one. Glad I did. Cut 5” oak branches easily and after 20 or 30 cuts still had plenty of battery life left. Not too heavy for the length of the pole. Make sure you fill the reservoir with bar and chain oil start trimming!

This has to be the best kept secret in the world of cordless polesaws. I was considering buying one of these from the well known red brand of tools as I have many of those 18v batteries. I simply could not justify the cost. That model also lacks an collapsible pole and a tilted head. I then bought a Chinesium unit that had good reviews. That mistake was returned the same day as it had no power and the battery life of a fruit fly. Enter the Skill 40 and I am as happy as Paul Bunyan. The extensible pole is heavy duty with good reach. The tool-less chain temsion adjustment knob makes setup a breeze. The power is incredible. I was slicing through large branches like a hot knife through butter. Plenty of speed with plenty of torque. Right up there with the red, light years better than the Chinesium. After cutting down a large number of branches, including hardwoods, I figured the battery must be due for a charge. I was positively surprised to see it still at 3 bars. At full extension the power head can be a bit unwieldy due to weight. Still, no worse than other units in its class. As with all things chainsaw related, you just need to be careful. Oh yes, it also has a 5 year warranty. This all adds up to being a saw that performs on par with far more ecpensive units for only a few dollars more than far less capable units. For 90% of folks, this is the one to get. ... show more
