I have a 2021 Tesla Model Y. When I bought it, Tesla included a mobile charger. I have been using that at home to charge every day at 32A (Tesla's mobile charger's limit). My house has a 60amp 14-50 outlet so I know it can handle 40A easily. Initially, I bought this to use at home, replacing my original Tesla mobile charger so I can keep the Tesla charger in the trunk for road trips and emergencies. But I decided I would rather keep the SHOCKFLO in my car's trunk. I don't need the full 40A at home because I'm often charging overnight and 32A is sufficient for my needs. This 40A charger will allow me to charge at a faster rate at campsites that support 50amp. I tested the charger at home and it works fine. I have no doubt that it will work at campsites too. I'll update the review if I run into any issues but so far I have been happy with this purchase. One minor concern I had was that it was NOT UL Certified. I didn't see any certification logo other than FCC which doesn't seem to be the appropriate certification authority for an EVSE like this one. I read more into this and found out that currently there are no laws that require manufacturers to UL-certify EVSEs. So it's clearly left up to the buyer to educate themselves about these things. For the lack of having a UL certification when many other competing EVSEs are UL certified, I am NOT going to give it all 5 stars. This is something that the manufacturer should add even though it's not legally required for them to do; it's just the right thing to do for your customers. ... show more

The display shows real time KWHR usage during charging, as well as cumulative KWHR usage when not charging, helpful for those who like to calculate their savings. The selectable current outputs provide great flexibility, especially if you charge in different locations. I am limited by a 30 amp circuit breaker at work so I charge at the 24 amp level. At home I charge at the 32 amp level. You have to select the level before you plug into the vehicle. On the display you can also see the current level slowly ramping up when you first plug into the vehicle, I think that prevents current inrush on your circuit and eases the stress on the controller, as well as your vehicle’s inverter. The delay charging function can be useful if you have a lower electric rate during the evening. I don’t, so I haven’t used that function yet. I’m using it on a 2023 Jeep Wrangler 4XE ... show more

Out of the box, it looked and felt like it was made of good quality. Easy to use and not complicated to operate. Loved that it came with an included wall mount. Plugged it in and it works and charged my PHVE in 1hr when it was at 20%. Much better than level 1 charging which takes my car over 11hrs! I bought it when it had an $80 coupon through Amazon. The only reason I am giving this charger a 4 instead of a 5 is I could not find away to stop charging from the actual charger. I can do it from my car’s app. Other than that it does the job. Charges the car. Can adjust the amps. All that.

Having recently purchased an EV and living in a semi-rural area, it didn't take long to realize a home installed Level 2 charger was essential. I ran a 220VAC line to the outside of our home based business with 8 ga, and this modestly priced charger, used twice weekly, has been performing flawlessly. Plug and play convenience! Charges my EV from 20% to 80% in around 6~ hrs. I plug in before bed and wake up to a full charge. Would be nice if it had Bluetooth and an app, but my cars app takes care of the charge % and charge times. Also, I use at home and don’t ever change the amperage.
