Won’t do light rugs.

Powerful yet light. It’s all about hair and It’s all about the double brush. I “sold” the Kirby vacs as a teenager waiting to get in the military. We were trained on various vacuums and I was in a lot of homes showing people how junk their other vacuums were. Never sold one because even though they were amazing because of the price tag. I just couldn’t bring myself to do that to people. But. What I learned there separated me from many others. My favorite vacuum was the older Kenmore progressive intelliclean vacuum. Bought it for my wife on Christmas. Madder than heck until she tried it. Spent HOURS testing it at sears vs the dysons etc before I bought it. Drove two sales guys crazy. Bought old parts off other broken units just to keep it going. Later (we have two) went with the new Kenmore progressives. Extremely powerful suction. Direct drive brush. But it did not have the ease of use and versatility of the intelliclean. Telling all this because I know vacuum cleaners. And also I am an engineer. So I know quality. As I stated above it’s all in the brush. Yes this vacuum is powerful. It’s so well designed to go from hand wand suction to wand for long reach to floor cleaning to lift and carry the unit. There are a few shortcomings but…it’s all about the brush. I live in the house of hairs. Wife, two daughters all with LONG hair. The kind of hair you will get your feet tangled in and fall down long hair. Then. A Husky who’s sole purpose in life is to shed and a black English lab who’s black hairballs will suffocate a small child. After vacuuming the house with the former vacuums I would have to get scissors out and cut the wrapped girls hair off the brush. Not a pleasant job but a must. Then when I would run our carpet scrubber a bunch of dog hair would clump up right after using the vacuum. So they never got all the hair. Like . A lot of left over dog hair. Our carpet is medium plush as an FYI. This new vacuum has rubber wipes on it along with a brush. No real beater bar that actually damages your carpet up like other vacuums. This instead uses what I would call friction to remove the hair from the carpet fabric. It is absolutely amazing how well it works. And the dander this thing sucks up is significantly more dense than the former vacuums. The only important downside that I figure I would mention is with this double brush system is that it won’t do light rugs. Neither did our Kenmores cause they would just suck the dang things up into the bag almost. This double roller instead will grab the rug and pinch it between the two rollers and then it will trip off the rollers. You then have to turn off the vac (easy) extract the rug (not too bad and no damage to the vac or rug) then you can turn it back on to get the rollers to work again. So if like my house where my wife buys rugs Every time I turn around then know that like most vacuums (even with the brush on slow (hardwood setting) and the min suction (which is just a port on the handle to allow air bypass)…the rollers is what will grab the rug. On heavier rugs it has zero issues. Haven’t had to clean the brush head yet of hair so that’s like worth going out to the bar with your buddies. They would understand. Any other downsides are not downsides. If this was your first ever vacuum in life you would name your first child after it. But if you have gone through many vacuums you see minor things you would change but all of them are not worth even blinking about. Shark did extremely well and I am glad I went with this model even though there are more exotics they make. No matter what model you get…if you are losing the war on hair this double brush system is it. You will claim victory 10 seconds after you turn it on and will probably call your buds over to celebrate. Please don’t tell my wife about this post cause she won’t let me tell her all about vacuum cleaners and will get mad at me for sharing. Update. Run the vacuum almost every day. Best vacuum I have ever owned. We have new medium plush carpet. On occasion I have to run the carpet cleaner. Prior to this vacuum there would be a lot of dog hair and long girls hair clogged up in the carpet cleaner brushes. Not anymore. This Shark pulls all of the hair up. Very impressed. Everything about this vacuum is perfect. I would not change a thing. ... show more

I can’t say enough good things about this vacuum! This is my second Shark vacuum. My husband had ordered me the self-propelled model several years ago, but I found it clumsy to control, although it did vacuum well. I wanted this newer model because of the issue of pet and human hair wrapping around the bristles. I was tired of sitting with a pair of scissors and pulling out hair. I was intrigued to find out if this model really solved that issue. Much to my surprise it really does! I think it will be important to properly maintain the vacuum, which I have been pretty good at anyway, with emptying the pod, cleaning (simply rinsing) the filters on a regular basis, etc. ) and listening for sound changes which might indicate a blockage. Speaking of sound changes, it seems this vacuum is quieter also! Better to preserve our hearing. I also found that with the rubber rollers I am not having to keep rolling over the same area! This vacuum has good pickup capabilities and it seemed it took about 1/2 the time it usually took to vacuum the same area. I have a dog so pet hair had been a challenge. I am so glad I made this purchase. Now this was my first time using the vacuum. If anything changes later on, I will add to my review. But first impressions…I love it! A Shark Story
Style: Rotator Lift-Away w/Duo Clean
Over the last 10 years I’ve only used Shark vacuums. I began my journey with a corded rocket stick and eventually moved over to the uprights. I like Shark vacuums; they get the job done, and you don’t have to worry about filters and they are overall some pretty easy-going machines. I’m pretty hard on a vacuum and I’m not afraid to admit that. The biggest problem I’ve had with my previous uprights are the hoses getting little splits in them or breaking off completely from their housing. Two sharks ago, the hose separated completely from the housing, and the shark I had before I got this one, had tons of duct tape wrapped around the little cracks that were forming on the hose, but it still worked quite well. Before I started using shark vacuums I had a pretty nice Panasonic canister vacuum and before the Panasonic, I was using an inherited Rainbow, which I never really understood the pricing on those with having to dump all that nasty dirt water, yuck. Sometime between the rainbow and the Panasonic I bought one of those $80 red dirt devils and I vowed never again to stoop that low after it broke the second time I used it. Case in point, I appreciate a good vacuum, and Sharks are just the right amount of vacuum for their price. I really, really like the dual brush rolls on this model, they don’t keep hair rolled around them all the time and I like how the soft one dusts the hard floors as it cleans. I just have to be sure to rinse off the soft brush roll after a month or so and get all the gunk out of the little teeth sitting behind that soft brush roll with a damp cloth or a soft bristle brush. If the canister gets real dusty I can rinse it out and let it dry to make it good as new, but I usually just dump it and maybe blow some compressed air through it to get most everything out. I really love the led light as well, as my last shark didn’t have one and all the stuff I had been missing suddenly became very obvious with this new one. The one thing that has me a little bummed out on this one is the capacity of the canister, my previous shark had some kind of double xxl canister and could hold a whole heap of dirt, but the fill line on this one is almost pitiful. I have to dump it after every vacuuming session, but it is good to do that anyway, right? I just worry about it getting too full during a vacuuming session a little obsessively, which it has done that, and I feel like if it had a larger capacity canister it would be way cooler. I also wish I would have gotten one with a dust brush attachment versus the power pet tool, because I have way more use for the dust brush than any other attachment. I can purchase that separately so I can fix that. As always though, just like with all my other upright sharks, I am starting to worry about the hose life, but I’d say it was a good purchase and I’m decently happy with it.! ... show more

Fabulous

Absolutely fabulous. As a professional house cleaner, this vacuum has it all. The suction is AMAZING, it literally pulls you. The brush’s makes carpet look fantastic without ruining it. The pet brush is such a lovely tool. It’s super powered, works so good on cat trees and even stairs. The dust cup is fairly large which is super useful. It was very easy to put together, and is very easy to learn to use( suction adjustment, how to empty etc.) This vacuum has so many different uses from dusting, to couches, to large area vacuuming and even hard floors! It could use a longer cord but that’s nothing an extension cord can’t fix. Overall it’s worth the money! ... show more

Negative Update: A year (or less?) later the vacuum is not functioning. Its suction has dissipated a lot, despite the fact that I change filters regularly. When pushed forward, it will pick up less than it did before. When pulled backwards, some of what it picked up is redeposited on the floor. (By the way, I've also cleaned the rollers and have verified that the hose is not plugged up). Most important: Since I bought it, I have discovered that Shark (perhaps deliberately) makes it hard-to-impossible to fix their products. They seem to be deliberately designed in such a way that buying a new Shark will always feel better than having the current Shark fixed. Even professionals complain about this. (You don't have to take my word for it, just do some research; perhaps on YouTube). I wish I bought a different vacuum at the time and will be doing so soon. Pros: It's easy to assemble and seems to vacuum things up pretty well. Assembling and Emptying are easy. (The instructions are clearer then many sets of instructions one finds in the box for just about any product these days). The processes of cleaning are clear and what areas and objects you need to clean are accessible. Cons: Minor Con: Putting the vacuum in the fundamental position you need it to be in (with the pick up part on the ground and the handle pole angled towards you) is harder to achieve than it should be. It seems like I need to use quite a bit of force to get the vacuum into that basic workable position; even when I use the foot pedal. I am sometimes concerned that I am going to break something. Major Con: The hose is much too short! If you're going to attempt to use the hose, the object(s) you want to vacuum better be only a a couple of feet away from the machine or else you're going to be dragging the machine with you. As a result, many basic objects in your home are probably going to be completely inaccessible. Put another way, assume you need to restrict your use of the hose to vacuum only on (or very near to) THE GROUND, because any other use is going to be difficult (perhaps impossible) to manage. At a price point that is several times higher than many other models, this is a big disappointment. ... show more

Performed better than expected

This vacuum is awesome for cleaning up long hair. I hated having to cut the hair off the brush roller of my older Navigator Lift-Away (don’t get me wrong, except for needing a longer hose and the hair issue, I love my older vacuum cleaner). Each time I’ve used the new vacuum cleaner, I’ve checked the brush roller. No hair at all—it’s all in the dust bin. This is lightweight and seemed a little flimsier at first (when I extend the hose to use either one as a lift-away, they tend to tip over, but this one more easily). The power button on the base and the hard floor/carpet adjustments are different from my old vacuum, so I’m still getting used to those. The great hair free brush roller outweighs any learning curves and not-as-convenient features by far! ... show more

Good vacuum for my needs

I’ve been pretty happy with this Shark vacuum overall. The suction is strong, and the hard floor cleaning performance is really good on my wood and tile floors. It glides smoothly with very little resistance, which makes cleaning easier than expected. The pull-off handle is especially useful for corners, stairs, and quick dust pickups. The vacuum is a little heavier than I expected, but I can still clean the stairs without much trouble. The smaller base actually works really well on stairs and in tighter spaces. One downside is that the vacuum head/base is a little smaller than expected, and the cord could definitely be longer for the price. Also, while it’s nice not having to deal with vacuum bags, the clear dust container starts looking pretty gross pretty quickly. I get why they made it transparent, but you definitely see everything in there. I also noticed the transition from hard floors to large area rugs can be awkward because the suction is powerful enough to pull up the rug sometimes. Overall though, it’s a strong-performing vacuum that works especially well on hard floors and stairs, with only a few minor annoyances. ... show more
