Great vacuum! Light but effective on floors and carpets. Highly manuverable. But the best part is the fact that the stick vacuum is so long. I was able to clean the floors of my entire SUV while standing outside the vehicle. It was full of dirt from plants that had fallen over and was so easy to clean up. The same item can be used for high spaces in your home, I imagine cobwebs in ceiling corners and dust on the top of curtains would all be easy to clean as well. The stick is extremely light and although it does need to be plugged in, I like that part anyway because I’m sick of batteries that run out of power.

I love this little vacuum. I have hardwood and tile floors, and carpet tiles on the stairs, ( the latter are mainly for my dogs). This Shark has turned out to be a great purchase for several reasons; (1). It picks up as much dirt and dust as my old, larger Dyson on these three specific surfaces. (2) It’s remarkably light, which makes a big difference when I am vacuuming with it, and when I’m finished; it doesn’t finish off my Senior energy for the day! (3). The best feature of all, to me, is that you can very easily detach the canister and you actually finally have the perfect tool for vacuuming your carpeted stairs. I have 2 flat coated dogs and their hair is so hard to get out of anything, it’s been a challenge for years because it tends to hook into fabrics, carpet, etc. Balancing even a light BISSELL, designed for pet owners, was starting to scare me on the stair steps. The hand canister gets about 98% of the hair with little effort, and all of it with a little extra pressure and extra swipes. It’s corded, so no worrying about 15 minute run times or batteries that can blow up. I really thought I’d probably be sending this back, since I doubted anything this light would get my dog’s fur, but I was amazed, and so glad - (and relieved to finally find something that worked to meet several needs), that I’m happy to write a review for other dog parents who think they’ll never find a good vacuum for their home. Finally, some reviewers say it tips over when you’re storing it, but you have to follow the instructions, detach the canister, and hang it in the hook made for it, on stick body of the vacuum. It’s very simple and easy to do.

I purchased this exact model from here a little over 2 years ago. I'll contribute a long-term review since it apparently is still being produced and sold and as a review reader myself I always appreciate when someone drops back in to give insight to a product's longevity and performance. Which I'm happy to report the vacuum in still running strong and used almost daily, albeit a little worse for wear but that's because I use it pretty hard and unforgivingly. My use environment - a 1100 sq ft condo with 100% ceramic tile flooring and 2 8ft x 10ft rugs. I also have 2 cats that shed. Keep in mind that YMMV based on your own living space. For my space size/type I feel this vacuum's mix of suction power, dust cup size, power cord length, a lower speed beater-bar setting for hard floors and higher setting for rugs - all together in a stick style vacuum was a perfect match. Now if your space is much larger with wall to wall carpeting then this would not be a good choice. Stick vacuums are just not made for that kind of job and a traditional upright is probably best. If your space falls somewhere in then middle with size and/or has a mix of flooring types then... good luck with that. Maybe get both types of vacuums? Or a traditional upright that isn't super heavy has some good hard wood floor features. Or take a hybrid approach and go with an old school canister style. You get the idea, moving on... Using the vacuum - I've got to say this has been one of the best vacuums I've ever purchased. There are a few quirks I won't waste time listing and it could use more attachments but the low $150-ish price more than makes up for those minor complaints. My remember my first impressions were that it "felt" cheap and "plasticy" and thought it wouldn't last log given my taxing usage. Turns out it's done a remarkable job with heavy and demanding use and abuse. In fact if it were to give up on life tomorrow I would seriously consider just buying another to replace itself. A few more things I like that I would like to point out - I've purchased many vacuums over the years and these are the things that stand out to me about this vacuum: -> It's not cordless. I made that mistake once and learned that battery powered vacuums suck (pun intended). You can never quite finish before it runs out of juice and of course you can't use it while it's charging. The battery capacity declines over time and so does the power. You're lucky to get a year out of it. -> The cord is nice and long, I only have to change outlets once to do my entire home. -> It's motor and resulting suction power is impressive for a "stick" vacuum. Another WIN for the power cord, no cordless is going to meet that kind of power output and do it consistently for over 2 years so far. And as far as corded stick vacuums go, this one places on the more powerful side of what you typically find, almost rivalling it's full-sized traditional versions. -> 2 beater bar speeds easily changed with your thumb without stopping, this makes transitioning from hard to rug to hard again really easy. -> The dust cup is large compared to other brands/models of the same size and power class. If you battle pet hair like I do then you will appreciate the larger dust cup. I don't understand why dust cups aren't larger across the board. But I digress. -> The dust cup is easy top remove, dump and reattach with little effort or tools needed. -> The filters are very durable, I'm still on my originals and wash those frequently and wring them out but they are still in usable condition. I will need new ones eventually but not quite yet. -> It's got a nice length, so if you're tall it feels comfortable to use and it also makes getting under things easier. Some of the cheaper sticks on the market are little more than a dust buster fixed to a short pole with a handle. They feels like your using a child's toy vacuum. Alright a few minor criticisms I'll mention in case they aren't minor to you: -> There really should be a hose attachment that you can pop on to the spot that the tube detaches from on the hand unit. Same end piece as the tube but is on a hose instead. Although this complaint could be for many other models too-) -> It's a bit on the loud side, as loud as a full sized traditional vacuum, but I'd rather have loud and powerful vs less loud and less power. -> That long power cord I mentioned I liked becomes one that is a lot to circle back up on the storage hooks on the unit. Sometimes I get lazy and just kind of wad it on or behind it in the closet. A power cord retractor like on the full sized machine would be an amazing upgrade, but I don't think this feature exists on any stick vacuum for space reasons, I assume. Fine, now that I'm thinking about this stuff there are 2 significant things that I really do not like - -> There is no stand for it, you lean it up and hope it doesn't slide and fall to the floor where, invariably, the dust cup pops off makes a huge mess. Beware of leaning it up against kitchen counters. It feels like it should stay put but it won't. Seriously it will fall down. You'll see. -> 2 There is no place to attach and store the brush/upholstery attachment anywhere on the vacuum. To make it worse, there are several obvious places that would work quite well for this too. Why did I just write all that? Seriously, I need to get a life. TL:DR - is good, buy

Wow! What a Super Sucker! Had the Pet Plus for 3 weeks now. Can't believe the hair and dust bunnies this picks up! And we don't even wear outside shoes or our cellar shoes in the house. If you have arm weakness, pain or shoulder issues, it can feel heavy and cumbersome. Its not as light as my canister vac brush, and this floor attachment doesn't get under my couches and low furniture. It doesn't stand upright on its own. Almost returned it, but used it every day for a week to see if I could get used to it. I did. I really like the light. It seemed like a gimmick but its my favorite part for it helps in dark or shadowed areas to see the dust. There are 2 additional filters in this vac. And the main dust collector chamber has an interesting other metal filter that reminds me of a tea strainer. Hair and debris wrap around this tightly due to the intense suction. I dont want this vac to over heat so I clean out the chamber completely into the trash 1 to 2 times with each use, and when i'm done vacuuming, i empty the chamber again and rinse it in the tub with hot water and dry it in the sun. My house is 900 square ft so the cord length is fine for here. Again, I'm pleased overall despite not wanting to keep it because of shoulder pain. The rug setting is powerful and I try to remember to remove entangled hair in the floor/rug attachment so it doesn't clog. It really sucks up and wraps the hair. I have to cut it free after each use, but that's due to everyone in the house having very long hair...not because its a fault of the vacuum. As far as the longevity of this vac...hopefully as long as I tend to keeping it clean, washing the filters and cutting loose wrapped hair around the brush....we'll see....

Aug 12 2015 Update: Had an issue with the motor & had to call cust service. Problem was handled very quickly & efficiently! Thanks! Orig REview: I researched until I was blue in the face because I do NOT like to sweep & I didn't want to buy a problem or a disappointment. Sweeping is a pain & a chore. But to my surprise every time I use this Shark it brings a SMILE! :) Wasn't sure what t to expect with this Shark,...there were some mixed reviews & opinions were helpful. Since I own several Dyson's including a Dyson 44 (I'm not happy with the D-44 or small storage of the Black & Decker Platinum 20v hand vac) I looked at buying the dyson59. Glad I chose this Shark,...though nothing is Perfect...& this Shark is not designed for all situations. PERFORMANCE: I don't try to sweep a large house,..its just not designed for that. It's great for quick, effective clean ups but has flexibility to do larger areas too. Shark give me flexibility to keep my full-size Dyson in the closet much much longer between major cleaning. That's nice. With a cord I have no batteries to run down unexpectedly. Nice. Yes I do have to find an outlet to plug it in, but it's got a very long cord which minimizes that minor annoyance. -The dust /dirt collection cup is much biGGer than the Dyson's I've tried & much easier to dump without a mess. Plus the dirt cup is easily detachable with one hand,..very convenient, well thought out,...a major plus. -The snap connections on the shaft of my portable Dyson are so loose goosey it's like trying to sweep with a droopy wet noodle & leaks suction. Not fun. -But the Rocket is ROCK SOLID! The locking couplers on the shaft are very solid w/no loss of suction. No wet noodle feeling at all. It's a lightweight metal of some sort more durable than plastic. But I resisted buying Shark for a long time because of the huckster feel to their advertising that made me resist buying. Shark's First Class Quality Engineering surprised me. OTHER PLUSSES: * * *NEW UPDATE.... When I need to store the unit I don't use the wall hook. Instead of mounting a plastic hook somewhere to hang the Shark, I lean the Sharp upright against the wall as one unit, nothing detached,....with the bottom vac head close to the wall. It's quick, easy, nothing to disassemble, no mounting hooks involved, convent storage anywhere while minimizing storage space. -Lean Storage works for me because of two small, strategically placed rubberized feet /knobs on the underside of the dust cup that helps grab the wall so it doesn't slide down. It also creates a 3-point stability between the 2 rubberized knobs & the sweeper head flat on the floor. In this 3-point position the Shark rests nicely balanced /stabilized with minimal storage space yet ready to conveniently swing into action quickly. -smartHE (smart Handy Engineering). The placement of rubber knobs is one example of what I call smartHE (Smart Handy Engineering) or smart, handy, practical engineering features that enhance Sharks performance, reduce stress & make it flat out easier /even fun to use. These small rubber knobs do double duty cushioning /stabilizing the plastic dirt cup when laying the sweeper flat on the floor. SUGG: would be helpful if Shark could enhance this upright storage feature with some pop-out rubber feet on the sweeper head & larger rubber on the bottom of the dirt bin. The 3-point storage is easy & simply needs a wall /closet etc to lean against. The rubber under the dirt cup keeps everything stable & in place,...automatically keeping itself from walking /rolling away from the wall or falling over sideways. I store it upright like this even on smooth hardwood floors. Very convenient & gives max flexibility to store it most anywhere out of sight, in an quiet corner, etc.. Nice! With a little practice it's easy to catch on to the technique & not have problems of it falling over as some reviewers have mentioned. -Vac performance works great on medium, short carpeting, hardwood floors & tile. Don't have to change height or anything,...just flip a switch that slows the beater brush on smooth surfaces. On deeper pile carpet I go to high speed. I read the directions. Easy Peasy & effective. -***UPDATE: The Sweeper's Headlight was a BIG SURPRISE. The angle & intensity allows me to actually SEE THE DIRT dirt /dust on my medium dark hard wood floors. Nothing in the marketing describes this benefit, but it's a real help to actually see where I've swept & see the dust in areas yet to be swept. NO MORE GUESSING! As a result I haven't really used any other attachment yet. The slower brush speed setting for wood floors attracts dirt & smart handy engineering keeps the spinning roller from damaging the wood floor. Never a danger of that. -Bot the motorized animal attachment for cat hair & misc on bedding. I can immediately see the results in the transparent collection container. Use Shark for steps too, but often too lazy to switch the heads & simply use my normal floor attachment for steps too,... with great success. * * * UPDATE... WHEEL NOISE & HARDWOOD FLOORS: Not an issue for me. The two large wheels have rubberized tread which deaden click clacking over wood /tile floors & superior to all-plastic wheels wheels on most vacs. -The two small spacing rollers on the front of the sweeper head are not rubberized & do make some rolling noise on wood. Some reviews reported the noise was annoying on hard floors but on balance was not an issue for me. * * * NEW TIP: IF YOU HAVE A BAD BACK or trouble bending over you can wind the electric cord without bending. While standing upright with cord in hand, simply let out enough cord to loop it over the lower hook when draw the cord back over the upper hook then let out enough length to loop under the lower hook & repeat. The cord is flexible yet stiff enough to make this work easily. With a little practice you'll catch on easily. Works for me. -Does have a nice LOOOONG cord. But I always come to an end somewhere where an just an extra 5 feet would be nice. It's one of those things where LOOOG is never long enough! An extra 5 feet would be handy if it can be safely done. -Durability & Longevity....only time will tell. But this Shark is starting from higher quality level /features than battery powered units like Dyson44 /59. That higher quality & attention to detail usually translates to durability & longevity. GREATEST STRENGTH: HIGH QUALITY & VERSATILITY. Does not pretend to be a full size vacuum. But delivers Big time features. Shark adapts well to most situations /hardwood /tile /medium & short carpet, under furniture & hard to reach places with excellent heppa filtration that's easy to clean & refuse. No special filters to constantly buy. So it's versatile, self contained & easy to maintain filters with peak performance. It is wrist arm intensive so if you're handicapped in those areas you may want to stay with traditional floor sleepers,,,but can always give it a 30 day test /return. -Usually avail at a lower price than battery powered competitors. With Shark there's no limit on run time,...no expensive batteries to wear out or repurcha$e. Just plug & run. -TOO MUCH: Suction & cleaning performance are excellent. Some sweepers I've used have TOO MUCH suction making it tough to easily move the sweeper across the carpet because it sucks down on the floor /carpet & won't glide. No problem here w/Shark due to smart engineering that manages the suction well & picks up the dirt. With a little care & technique I can sweep even loose throw carpets without it being sucked off the floor into the sweeper head. SUGG: it would be nice if Shark had a safety overload pop-out reset switch to protect the head roller & motor if something gets caught in the roller. CONS & More SUGGS: There aren't many. Plastic wall mounting hook is a little weak. But that's not an issue for me since I use the handy 3-point storage for leaning against a wall in a closet or empty corner out of sight yet close at hand. This makes sweeping quick & effective,...not a big production. An extra 5ft on the cord would be nice. Extra lights on the sweeper head that shine not only to the front, but to the sides for larger viewing area would be nice. Adjust the motor to get rid of the annoying whine. A simple quick wheel lock to keep the unit from rolling away from the wall when storing /leaning it upright. -A larger accessory bag that closes more secure with a couple fabric loops for hanging would be nice. I don't change accessories very often & store them in the handy bag on a hook in my closet. Some reviewers prefer having all attachments on the shaft at all times, but for my taste that reduces portability & performance which is Shark. Besides, I can use my big, bulky sweeper if I want all my attachments at my fingertips. * * * UPDATE: MY CAT ALWAYS JETS out of the room whenever I start a sweeper. To my compete surprise, my cat GRACIE just calmly sat there watching me sweep away! Who knew?! Ha! SHARK IS CAT ENDORSED... :). BOTT LINE: Brings a s-m-i-l-e every time I use it. Pushing my Shark I feel smart, refined & minimal. Now when going back & pushing my full sized vac I feel clunky & out of step. Just sayin. Unexpectedly gives me a smile & lift on what used to be a chore. After owning 3/4 Dysons, I finally chose to break away from all that overpriced hype & poorly fitting cheap plastic. It was hard to convince myself to do that. I know we're just talking about a sweeper here, but the feeling of freedom & discovery was worth it. This shark delivered solutions for all the annoyances that were trapping me with Dyson & other brands. Shark's smartHE (smart Handy Engineering) features are second to none. Superior fit /finish, exceptional cleaning performance, versatility, larger collection cup easily removable, smarter design, usually less expensive... this Shark is a winner in my book. Glad I gave it a try. Our cat Grace is much happier, too. HIGHLY Recommend. EASILY EARNS 5-STARS!

I have a big Rainbow vacuum that I use to clean the entire house. I love the Rainbow because it uses water as a filtering medium, so suction remains strong no matter how dirty the "filter" gets and it effectively gets a new "filter" every time it's used. Its only downside is that it's large and bulky, so if I have to vacuum a small section (like, a carpet runner in a hallway) it's a bit of an ordeal to take out and set up. My basement has been converted to a space for my teenage daughter. Most of it is bare concrete (epoxy coated) but there's some carpeting here and there. Further, my daughter's pet rabbit makes its home in the basement so there's a fair amount of rabbit fur and debris (hay, bits of chewed cardboard, etc) around its area. My daughter has been "okay" with keeping the floors clean but since the Rainbow is big and bulky it wasn't as good as it should have been. So I went shopping for a small yet effective vacuum to handle this job and this Shark is where I landed. Truthfully I wasn't expecting very much, but after the first use I was shocked by how good it actually is. I wouldn't use it to clean the floors of the whole house (I can't see it's nearly-all-plastic construction lasting as long as my 35+ year old Rainbow) but I would absolutely use this for a small apartment. Or, of course, our basement. Assembly was insanely easy. I didn't have to refer to the owner's manual for anything, although after I used it I did check it out just to see if I was missing any features (I wasn't). The pieces simply slide and lock into place very securely, and are easy enough to disconnect/disassemble as needed. There are several well-marked, large release latches for this. I particularly liked how the power switch works. For hardwood (or concrete) floors, moving the switch to the first position enables the sweeper on the power head as well as suction, so you're not relying on JUST suction to pick up dirt. For carpeted floors, moving the switch forward enables the beater bar to really get into the carpet fibers. My daughter's pet rabbit roams an area of about 250 square feet, of which about half is carpeted and it hadn't been vacuumed in probably a month. After using this vacuum on it for the first time we filled the collection bin with bits of hay and rabbit fur and the carpet looked every bit as clean as when I use the Rainbow on it. The LED lights on the vacuum head is a nice touch, allowing you to more easily see dirt and debris on the floor (just look for the long shadows). Removing the power head doesn't make you blind, however, as there's a second LED on the vacuum motor that lights the area you're working on. The vacuum head isn't very tall at all, and the hose bends down enough to allow absolutely flat operation. Using this I was able to get under low-lying furniture like my daughter's desk and the nearby shelf units. Suction power is also very good, and consistent throughout its run. I expected the vacuum to be more like the handheld Dustbuster-type vacs we have in the house where power diminishes very quickly as the filter clogs up, but no. Power stayed consistent and strong even with a pretty sold mass of rabbit fur and straw filling the collection bin. Three things I don't like about it, but are minor things overall. First, it comes with a storage hook cast into the casing which is nice, but the matching hook for the wall is an extra-cost item. It's available on Amazon for an additional $24 or you can get an identical third-party unit for less than half. For a nearly-$200 vacuum cleaner, it's inexcusable for Shark to demand additional money for this piece. Second, it's top-heavy. Now, this isn't a shock considering the nature of the unit and I'm not exactly penalizing it for being what it is. But it does mean that when you're done using it for the moment (like, you want to unplug it, or you just need to move some furniture around) you're really going to want to just lay it down on the floor. More than once did I try to lean it against the wall only to have it slide down. If I wasn't paying attention it would have hit the floor hard (top-heavy, remember?) and probably damaged the plastics, which includes the collection bin. And third, the vacuum head doesn't have really good suction on the sides so cleaning the edges and corners of stairs isn't nearly as effective as cleaning the stair itself. You'll be removing the vacuum head to get into those nooks and crannies. Still, even with those issues I'd buy it again.

Style: Rocket Deluxe w/ headlights
This vacuum is more convenient to use than a regular one. I have had multiple Sharks over the years and love the brand. There are a few things that make me want to return it (I can't, it's past the return window): 1. It is freaking loud. For such a small vacuum you would think it would be quieter. I think maybe it's the fact that the motor is closer to your ears so it's louder. 2. It doesn't stand up against a wall because it's top heavy, so if you have to move something while vacuuming you have to lay it on the ground. Kind of a PITA to be honest. Things that I like about it: 1. It has the light on it so you can see all the dirt, dust, pet hair, etc that you can't always see with other vacuums. 2. The container that holds the dirt is fairly big for a stick vac. I can vacuum a whole room and still not fill it up. It's also easy to clean the container which I like to do now and then. 3. The cord is really long. This can be good and bad. Good because I don't have a lot of outlets so I can get to almost my entire living room from one plug. Bad because it tends to get in the way. Honestly I don't know why they stopped making vacs with retractable cords. They were way more convenient than having to carry around the cord while vacuuming. Overall I would say it's a pretty good vacuum if you have a smaller house without a lot of carpets. Most of my house is tile. It picks up dirt easily, it's light, and easy to maneuver. To store it, you can take the part that has the motor off and put it on the bottom of the vacuum. It's in the manual (I don't read manuals so it took me a while to figure that out lol)
