This is my third Dyson. I first bought one for my retail store, a V8. Then I bought a V8 animal for home. We had the extended warranty and had to replace the V8, so about 2 years in we got a brand new V10 vacuum. That was a great upgrade back then but unfortunately the battery still died on that one before the new extended warranty went out, so they gave me a gift card for that one. I think my staff just didn't know how to use a Dyson. In the meantime I had mastered using our V8 animal but the battery life was just not enough for our house. Then we moved to a bigger house and I insisted we had to get a new Dyson. So our V8 animal has retired to a small office space that we keep in our other store. It is great for small jobs but only lasts about 20 minutes. I ended up doing a bunch of research on Dyson's and picked the new v15 with extra attachments. I also purchased the aftermarket hose. I am so happy with my purchase that I can't shut up about my vacuum. I'm sure people think I'm crazy but I have already picked up over 5 million particles, including vacuuming out the keyboards of the computers, and repeatedly vacuuming the same carpet until the dust count goes down dramatically. You would not believe the fine microscopic particles that this thing picks up. It is ridiculously powerful and lasts so long that I can vacuum the new house and go back to any areas that I want to pay extra attention to until the battery dies. I have even taken this vacuum back to the store that used to have one and vacuumed after a traditional vacuum and the difference is night and day. The carpet looks almost brand new rather than the gray dingy that the traditional vacuum leaves it looking like. I am now going to have to find a solution for that store because I can't part with my v15 and it is kind of pricey for staff to use. But I am so happy with it. The only drawback I see for this model is it is a little tricky emptying the container. On my V8 animal when you released the container it dumped out the compartment, and I could open and close it a couple times to get it to fully empty any long hairs and stuff. This one you do have to use your fingers sometimes to get the stuff out. I also noticed the edge suction on the floor attachment is not quite as good as my V8 animal, but it still gets the job done it just might take a couple passes sometimes to get anything close to the baseboards. I'm still really happy with it, definitely five stars for me. I should have been taking pictures of the crud I've been vacuuming, I'll try to add some. My cleaning days are definitely not over with this beast on the job.

First, who am I? I'm 78 yrs old, a man, 6 ft, 180 lbs, active and enjoying life! Now you get a "feel" for who is using this vacuum. Do I own other vacuums (including a big corded Dyson) - yes. Why did I end up buying this one? Because I didn't use the others. Why? Too heavy, (big Dyson), too much effort getting them out and setting them up (Rainbows), too aggravating messing with the cord (all of them). Didn't I realize I needed to vacuum? Of course! It was just a royal pain in the butt. Enter the Dyson V15 cordless vacuum. Two things jump to my mind. First, it really works. The suction is very good, the attachments are easy to install and remove. It's easy to empty and it is durable. Second, I end up using it! I mean really using it. I have it mounted on one of the walls in my garage next to a power outlet. It's easy to retrieve and replace on its recharging cradle. It is not too heavy and it maneuvers like a dream. OK, here's the deal. If you have a lot of carpet in your house (me? I'm in a 3 bed, 2-1/2 bath home, carpet in the bedrooms, back hall, stairs and room above the garage, hard wood floors everywhere else with a few oriental area rugs - 2,400 sq ft, max) you're going to either have to get an extra battery or change the way you vacuum. No doing all the house at one time. If you want to do that, it's no big deal, really. This vacuum is so easy to use and so convenient I use it on the kitchen floor several times each week - especially after I've been cooking. Same with the bathrooms. Honestly, you find it's no hassle at all to just run to the vacuum, pull it off the wall and "take care of business". Do you need to be patient when you're running this thing over the floor? Yes. I don't mean you have to go at a "snail's pace". Can you race around with it and expect it to pick up absolutely everything? No. Honestly, you know how you're supposed to vacuum so do it the right way to begin with. I've always hated vacuuming the carpeted stairs. Lugging that vacuum up or down, trying to balance both the vacuum and me. Worrying about taking a dive and having to call EMS. You know, all those things that make you wish your stairs weren't carpeted in the first place! Well, let me tell you, this little jewel does a wonderful job. You just place whatever attachment you want to use directly on the vacuum body and it becomes a light, hand-held vacuum that you can easily stroke over each stair tread and riser while you are backing down the stairs. Hallelujah! And dust? It works like a dream. I've always felt I was simply pushing the dust around when I was using a cloth. If I sprayed the cloth I wondered about residue.....I know, it's just me. This thing picks up dust and traps it in the vacuum chamber so I can take it outside. It has a good filtration system so the air coming back into the room is clean. And, again....it's easy to use! I have even done my HVAC vents and my ceiling fans! Would you believe? OK, enough..... Bottom line? As I said, it works. It does what they said it was going to do. Do you need an additional battery (and charger)? Probably, but they are not absolutely necessary. Do I finally use a vacuum in my house? You bet! Would I buy it again? In a heartbeat!

WHY? I have mostly hard wood flooring and some tile flooring. We do have 4 large area rugs as well. My main reason for looking for a new vacuum cleaner was that we were tired of chasing dog and cat hair around on hard wood floors and having to plug in and unplug and you know how you go too far and you accidentally unplug it? RESEARCH: I read some different vacuum cleaner top 10 articles and then watched some YouTube videos. Once I saw the video on this Dyson V15 I knew this was the one that would suit my particular needs. If I only had carpet I would not have chosen this particular Dyson. Keep that in mind when you read reviews or watch videos. HARDWOOD FLOORS: The hardwood floor head is amazing! I had no idea how much Pug glitter I had on my floors until I used this attachment! The laser light is very, very helpful! It lies pretty flat too so that I can vacuum under the couch without moving the couch. CARPET: The carpet head attachment also works great and the suction is just as strong if not stronger than my corded Shark vacuum on carpeted area rugs. We're going to donate our Shark vacuum. OTHER ATTACHMENTS & BATTERY: The other attachments including the one for using on your car or kitty tower are great and I like that hair is not going to tangle on any of these vacuum heads. The battery life is perfect for my size home and cleaning needs. I have not bought an extra battery. EASE OF USE: I don't mind having to pull the trigger and keep it depressed to turn it on. It actually makes it fast to start and stop before I accidentally suck up something or hit something I shouldn't. EMPTYING THE CONTAINER: LOVE IT!!! Aside from how great it works on hard wood floors, I LOVE the way you empty the container! It's actually fun and super easy to empty unlike my Shark vacuum. I have asthma and I am so leery of exposing myself to vacuumed up dust particles. Dyson has the perfect solution with the shotgun pumping action to empty the canister. 💖 OVERALL: This Dyson V15 works great on both carpet and hardwood floors and I find it super easy to grab and use daily in areas that need it. I have not had to clean the filter but it looks pretty easy. The digital display is nice and very easy to use. Oh and the sound of the Dyson is not bad! It's not as loud as the Shark. I wish I had bought this sooner! 😎 OTHER: I did just purchase a moveable stand for it because I didn't want to use the included wall attachment to permanently place it somewhere and there are a lot of attachments and 3 heads. Some people have said they wished Dyson included a stand with it but I like the option of finding one that suits my home. Once it arrives I can see where I want to store my Dyson but I can always change my mind.

I do not very often write reviews, but I had to do it for this machine. Ok, so I have had a Dyson in the past and had it for ten years. It was still working and I got rid of it and bought another high end vacuum, name with held, but not Dyson. My mistake, I had it for two years and had multiple problems with it, loss of suction, breaking down, power brush often had to be reset to even get it to work. And the thing weighed 15 pounds and took a lot of effort to get it set up each time I wanted to use it. Now it sits in the corner and I am not sure what we are going to do with it, probably give it away. Anyway, I now have the Dyson V15 Animal for pets and I love it, it is easy to use and well designed. My old Dyson, when you had to empty the bin was complicated and often would have to pull out all the gunk. No more, just push down once and its empty, No more having to take it off to empty it. It is also lightweight and very powerful, love it, it is so easy to use and I wish I never had bought the other vacuum mentioned above. Even though it is expensive, I would not recommend any other one but Dyson. I don't know about you, but you get what you pay for and I wasted so much money, don't do the same, spend the money on this one, you will not regret it.

Wow, this thing is really easy to use. Big red buttons on the vac show you where to press to remove the different heads, or how to empty the cannister. I especially love the head that has the green laser light on it which shows you where all the bits on the floor are. The dirt bin doesn't need to be emptied each time you use it, which is nice, too. The capacity of the bin is more than enough to use at least a few times before emptying. It's lightweight and is easily inserted and removed from the docking station, which they provide. That's how it recharges itself, so you should dock it often to keep it charged up. We mounted our docking station on the wall, out of the way, and that way, the vac is 100% ready after every use. I like the VERY quiet motor which is not obnoxious like regular vacs. We use this vac mainly on our vinyl kitchen floor which has a texture to it and is hard to sweep up with a broom. This vac gets it all, as well as stuff I didn't even know was there. My one complaint and reason for four stars instead of five is that you have to constantly apply pressure on the trigger button to run the thing. There is no on-off button! Who knows why they designed it like this! It's just weird. This design eliminates a lot of senior citizens who sometimes can't apply constant pressure on the pointer finger. Nevertheless, I like the Dyson V15 Detect for the weight, the quiet operation, the bin, ease of use, and the special heads. All the heads are handy to have for various uses, though I use the special upholstery head for the couch and the laser head for the floor most often. I like this vac and can recommend it, if you don't mind the trigger button issue.

I bought this vacuum last year. I use it once a week. I lightly brushed against a chair leg today and it broke. From reading other reviews this seems like a common failure. For $600 I expected something that would last more than a year before breaking. Since several people have reported this same failure and also say that Dyson won't honor the warranty if bought through a third party I take that as an invitation to look real close at the vacuum and see if I can fix it myself. I started by taking off the wheel that wasn't broken only to discover that it was actually broken but was holding on by the thinnest piece of plastic. It was destined to fall off in the near future. I realized that I wouldn't be able to repair the wheels from the surface and I'd need to disassemble the Digital Motorbar and repair it from the backside if there was any chance of the repair to hold up. If you look at the photos of the part that the wheels connect to you can see lines in the plastic on both sides. These aren't shadows, hairs, dust, or discolorations. These are cracks that run through the entire depth of the part. My guess is that if I were to have continued to use the motorbar without the wheels the part would have split in half at some point in the future. I glued the part back together with gorilla glue to the best of my ability and reassembled the motorbar. Will the repair hold up? Only time will tell. However even if that repair holds up it gets worse. The connectors on the vacuum tube appear to be made of the same type of plastic and also have cracks in them. I think it's just a matter of time before I end up having to deal with that. I don't know why there are so many 5 star reviews for this vacuum. Maybe there was a bad batch of plastic and only a few unlucky people got bad parts. Maybe people wrote reviews a month or 2 into ownership and haven't started to experience the plastic failures yet. What I do know is that based on what I saw, the digital motorbar isn't going to hold up over the long term. The vacuum tube is also suspect. See the picture showing a crack in it (there are more cracks in it but I didn't feel the need to post pictures of every crack). As for the rest of the vacuum I can't say. I didn't disassemble the entire thing. I did like this vacuum before it broke. I suspect that the 5 star reviews are going to start getting downgraded as more people start experiencing the broken plastic problems. Edit 1/26/2025. Skip the gorilla glue and go straight to JB weld.

I upgraded from the v8, so I wasn’t expecting ground breaking improvements. I was blown away by how many ground breaking improvements there were. First, they changed the way it empties, which is a significantly better and easier, more efficient. This also allows for a larger bin, another huge improvement. The green light on the hard floor roller is surprisingly useful, it really works. Moving on to the motor and lcd, the motor is more powerful, it has a setting to auto adjust according to your flooring, I thought that would be a failed option but it works so well I actually leave it on that setting. This does a couple of things, first it gives you longer running life of the unit, from 8 minutes at high on the v8, to I haven’t yet run this one out of battery on a single cleaning job. It also lets you focus on cleaning and not on flipping a switch every time you changed floor types. The lid gives a real time view of minutes per stage of power, so if you want to manually adjust it, you know how long you have left on the battery. Add to that the lifetime heap filters, and this is a winner by a long shot. I’m glad I chose to bite the bullet and pay what this one costs, about double the v8, because it is 5 times better than the v8. Wow is an understatement. If you can afford it, just buy it.
