Should I Buy It?

Based on these reviews, the Dyson V15 cordless vacuum is a worthwhile investment for its power, variety of uses, and easy maneuverability. If you're looking for a vacuum that can handle various surfaces and don't mind adjusting your vacuuming habits or purchasing additional batteries, this would be a solid choice.

  • Best vacuum ever! Great for people with allergies and dust sensitivity.
This is my third Dyson. I first bought one for my retail store, a V8. Then I bought a V8 animal for home. We had the extended warranty and had to replace the V8, so about 2 years in we got a brand new V10 vacuum. That was a great upgrade back then but unfortunately the battery still died on that one before the new extended warranty went out, so they gave me a gift card for that one. I think my staff just didn't know how to use a Dyson. In the meantime I had mastered using our V8 animal but the battery life was just not enough for our house. Then we moved to a bigger house and I insisted we had to get a new Dyson. So our V8 animal has retired to a small office space that we keep in our other store. It is great for small jobs but only lasts about 20 minutes. I ended up doing a bunch of research on Dyson's and picked the new v15 with extra attachments. I also purchased the aftermarket hose. I am so happy with my purchase that I can't shut up about my vacuum. I'm sure people think I'm crazy but I have already picked up over 5 million particles, including vacuuming out the keyboards of the computers, and repeatedly vacuuming the same carpet until the dust count goes down dramatically. You would not believe the fine microscopic particles that this thing picks up. It is ridiculously powerful and lasts so long that I can vacuum the new house and go back to any areas that I want to pay extra attention to until the battery dies. I have even taken this vacuum back to the store that used to have one and vacuumed after a traditional vacuum and the difference is night and day. The carpet looks almost brand new rather than the gray dingy that the traditional vacuum leaves it looking like. I am now going to have to find a solution for that store because I can't part with my v15 and it is kind of pricey for staff to use. But I am so happy with it. The only drawback I see for this model is it is a little tricky emptying the container. On my V8 animal when you released the container it dumped out the compartment, and I could open and close it a couple times to get it to fully empty any long hairs and stuff. This one you do have to use your fingers sometimes to get the stuff out. I also noticed the edge suction on the floor attachment is not quite as good as my V8 animal, but it still gets the job done it just might take a couple passes sometimes to get anything close to the baseboards. I'm still really happy with it, definitely five stars for me. I should have been taking pictures of the crud I've been vacuuming, I'll try to add some. My cleaning days are definitely not over with this beast on the job. ... show more

  • Finally. A Vacuum Cleaner I Actually Use!
First, who am I? I'm 78 yrs old, a man, 6 ft, 180 lbs, active and enjoying life! Now you get a "feel" for who is using this vacuum. Do I own other vacuums (including a big corded Dyson) - yes. Why did I end up buying this one? Because I didn't use the others. Why? Too heavy, (big Dyson), too much effort getting them out and setting them up (Rainbows), too aggravating messing with the cord (all of them). Didn't I realize I needed to vacuum? Of course! It was just a royal pain in the butt. Enter the Dyson V15 cordless vacuum. Two things jump to my mind. First, it really works. The suction is very good, the attachments are easy to install and remove. It's easy to empty and it is durable. Second, I end up using it! I mean really using it. I have it mounted on one of the walls in my garage next to a power outlet. It's easy to retrieve and replace on its recharging cradle. It is not too heavy and it maneuvers like a dream. OK, here's the deal. If you have a lot of carpet in your house (me? I'm in a 3 bed, 2-1/2 bath home, carpet in the bedrooms, back hall, stairs and room above the garage, hard wood floors everywhere else with a few oriental area rugs - 2,400 sq ft, max) you're going to either have to get an extra battery or change the way you vacuum. No doing all the house at one time. If you want to do that, it's no big deal, really. This vacuum is so easy to use and so convenient I use it on the kitchen floor several times each week - especially after I've been cooking. Same with the bathrooms. Honestly, you find it's no hassle at all to just run to the vacuum, pull it off the wall and "take care of business". Do you need to be patient when you're running this thing over the floor? Yes. I don't mean you have to go at a "snail's pace". Can you race around with it and expect it to pick up absolutely everything? No. Honestly, you know how you're supposed to vacuum so do it the right way to begin with. I've always hated vacuuming the carpeted stairs. Lugging that vacuum up or down, trying to balance both the vacuum and me. Worrying about taking a dive and having to call EMS. You know, all those things that make you wish your stairs weren't carpeted in the first place! Well, let me tell you, this little jewel does a wonderful job. You just place whatever attachment you want to use directly on the vacuum body and it becomes a light, hand-held vacuum that you can easily stroke over each stair tread and riser while you are backing down the stairs. Hallelujah! And dust? It works like a dream. I've always felt I was simply pushing the dust around when I was using a cloth. If I sprayed the cloth I wondered about residue.....I know, it's just me. This thing picks up dust and traps it in the vacuum chamber so I can take it outside. It has a good filtration system so the air coming back into the room is clean. And, again....it's easy to use! I have even done my HVAC vents and my ceiling fans! Would you believe? OK, enough..... Bottom line? As I said, it works. It does what they said it was going to do. Do you need an additional battery (and charger)? Probably, but they are not absolutely necessary. Do I finally use a vacuum in my house? You bet! Would I buy it again? In a heartbeat! ... show more

  • Really great vacuum, but expensive.
Our old stick vacuum not performing as we had hoped it would, so we started shopping around for a replacement. After much research, I decided on this Dyson model V15 Detect. It was quite expensive compared to most other choices for a replacement. However, You get what you pay for! This machine is by far the best stick vacuum we have ever had. It came with several accessories including one for rugs/carpets and one for hardwood/tile floors. They work excellently! Love how a green light on the hardwood floor attachment actually shows the dust and dirt that your eye misses! Even though it comes with a single battery, we have yet to run it completely down with one use (light touch up with 5-6 hardwood rooms and four rooms with carpet or rugs! The battery can be charging all the time when not in use without building a memory or harming the machine. It is far more powerful than any of our previous machines and easy to empty and care for. We use this for most of our vacuuming needs and use our Kirby for the heavy duty, twice-a-year vacuuming of carpets and rugs! I mentioned before, great performance but pricey. If it lasts for a long time I will consider it a good value! I will update if any issues come up. ... show more

  • Dyson V15 Cordless Vacuum: Powerful, Sleek, and a Game-Changer for Cleaning!
I never thought I'd be so excited about a vacuum, but here we are. The Dyson V15 Cordless Vacuum has turned me into a cleaning enthusiast (yes, really). First off, it’s like holding a futuristic gadget—sleek, lightweight, and ridiculously powerful. You know how vacuums usually leave you huffing and puffing? Not this one. It’s cordless, so I don’t have to wrestle with the vacuum getting tangled around furniture or fight the battle of the plug. The V15 is so strong it might just suck the regrets out of my life. Seriously, it picked up stuff I didn’t even know was there—like those crumbs from ages ago that must have been secretly plotting to stay hidden forever. And the laser feature? I didn’t know I needed it until I saw it in action. It lights up dust like a detective spotlighting a criminal—absolutely mesmerizing. The best part? I don’t need to make a deal with the vacuum cleaner anymore. The V15 has the power to make me feel like I’ve got a personal cleaning assistant who gets the job done faster than I can binge-watch a season of my favorite show. If you’re considering it, just do yourself a favor: buy it. Your house will be cleaner, and you'll feel like a superhero wielding a mighty tool of cleanliness. ... show more

  • one cheap part makes this an avoid for me.
The Vacuum itself is very good, but one issue with a major part of the vacuum forces me to recommend avoiding this product. I've been using Dyson for 13 years, their corded Dyson ball vacuum I bought still works great. But the ball side attachments on the digital motorbar are screwed in with tiny screws into a plastic housing. I'm very careful with my products but regardless both sides eventually broke off. Sure enough there is a reddit about this issue with this complaint, can't recommend purchasing something that has an important part that is very likely to break. Wish this wasn't the case, because otherwise I think this is a very good product. ... show more

  • Clean freaks beware
I’ve had my Dyson for almost 2 years. I will say that it is added to my chore list. That little green light that shows me every little thing that’s on the floor. I now vacuum my floors 3 to 5 times a week. The vacuum has added to my chore list. The green light shows you more than you could see standing and looking at your floor. You realize it’s dirtier than you thought. I will say it is kind of cumbersome. Sometimes when I’m maneuvering it in my hands, I accidentally trigger the on button. I do wish that they would have more of an on and off switch. You tend to build up muscles in both of your arms from switching it back-and-forth to vacuum a nice size house. I think it works great on very low piled rugs, hardwood floor and linoleum. It’s nice for vacuuming out your car. I do wish that Dyson‘s high power would automatically come on And then if you wanted a lower power that you could select a lower power. But I find myself always having to switch to the higher power after it’s on I use the purple and yellow roller the most since I have hardwood and linoleum mainly floors. I did buy some attachments like the bendable hose and the little key that you could put on the trigger to hold the power in the on position. I like using that bendable hose and the little brush to do some vacuuming of lampshades, pictures and little nooks and crannies. I wish they would lower the price tremendously and make some modifications to it. For now, I’m stuck with it and a lot more house cleaning. I probably would think twice about buying the second one of the same brand considering they’re so expensive. I say if it was a $200/$300 for the vacuum, OK anything above that is a little out of range for expense. It does the job. ... show more

  • Jeeeez, this vacuum makes cleaning actually enjoyable.…
Go figure. You know something is well designed when it makes the dreaded the desirable. After years of being frustrated by subpar vacuums, wires, clunkiness, poor suction, constant mechanical problems…..I decided to bite the bullet and save for a Dyson. I’ve continually heard great things about them, but scoffed at and could never look past the price of entry. After having used it, I’m very glad I did. Not to be too effusive, but…..ah heck, why not….this thing is an absolute marvel! Wow. Never would I have believed vacuuming my home would become an enjoyable activity, but this appliance is a pleasure to use in nearly every respect. The first thing you’ll notice is the green laser that emits out the front with the hardwood floor attachment. Initially upon first seeing this feature while researching this purchase, one word immediately came to my mind: “gimmick”, and I wrote it off as such. Yeah….no. I’ll gladly eat some crow on that. This feature is incredibly useful, borderline (if not) system selling, and it’s unfortunate that it can’t really be conveyed how much until you can try it firsthand as pics and video don’t do it justice. I don’t believe I can go back after this. The bright green laser lights up particles and hair like a Christmas tree, even with the room lights on and in daylight, and lets you easily see where you’ve cleaned and where you need to. Though I can’t help but wonder how badly this would drive the OCDs amongst us up the wall, as it shows literally every single speck and makes it hard not to rearrange your house trying to nab every last one. Which this thing actually counts. Yes, it literally tracks each particle it gathers and displays it on the LCD at the base, and even differentiates between them…..god only knows how, and I can’t help but roll my eyes a bit at this (tending to believe it is more of a sales pitch perk/bragging rights than something really all that useful to the user), but it’s a kick to see nonetheless. Secondly, it is both very lightweight and easy to move around. You don’t have to concern yourself with wires, big bulky hoses, or pulling around a large clunky base with limited cord length. The attachments easy pivot and rotate to get where you need to. Its power is sufficient, noise level minimal in comparison to other vacuums I’ve used, and unless otherwise directed, defaults to ‘Auto’ mode, which varies the power output depending on how much dust it is sensing at any given moment. There is an ‘Econ’ and ‘Boost’ mode at the press of a button if you desire to save battery for da minah pickups or if you require more suction at da buggahs expense. On initial charge I got around 52 minutes of battery, but this obviously varies depending on the job and user discretions. Unlike a few other reviews I’ve seen that mentioned this, I did not find it troublesome to hold down the trigger, though I could understand the complaint for those with arthritis. A trigger lock option would have been nice to have. The vacuum comes with a bunch of attachments: hardwood (only one with laser), carpet, corner, and others…..everything you would need to get everywhere you would want. Changing attachments is a breeze of pushing in a small red button, popping off, and popping on. Emptying the bin is also just as easy…..just detach the main pipe, move it above the trash, and pull down a red tab at the back of the bin. The lid pops down on a hinge and the contents fall out. Which I suppose leads to my only complaint really worthy of note aside the absence of a trigger lock: the size of the bin. Frequent emptying is needed, though this can be laid more to fault of a stick design than anything else….but considering how easy it is to empty and that my initial vacuuming was collecting many, many months of accrued dust, I find that’s more to my blame and will not be a big concern on subsequent cleanings. I’ll be updating this review as time and usage passes, but so far, I’m incredibly happy with this purchase. Yes it’s costly, but believe me it is worth every penny. You are getting what you pay for here….this vacuum is a pleasure to use, and it is quality. ... show more

  • Wow, this one is perfection
I upgraded from the v8, so I wasn’t expecting ground breaking improvements. I was blown away by how many ground breaking improvements there were. First, they changed the way it empties, which is a significantly better and easier, more efficient. This also allows for a larger bin, another huge improvement. The green light on the hard floor roller is surprisingly useful, it really works. Moving on to the motor and lcd, the motor is more powerful, it has a setting to auto adjust according to your flooring, I thought that would be a failed option but it works so well I actually leave it on that setting. This does a couple of things, first it gives you longer running life of the unit, from 8 minutes at high on the v8, to I haven’t yet run this one out of battery on a single cleaning job. It also lets you focus on cleaning and not on flipping a switch every time you changed floor types. The lid gives a real time view of minutes per stage of power, so if you want to manually adjust it, you know how long you have left on the battery. Add to that the lifetime heap filters, and this is a winner by a long shot. I’m glad I chose to bite the bullet and pay what this one costs, about double the v8, because it is 5 times better than the v8. Wow is an understatement. If you can afford it, just buy it. ... show more
