LOVE this vacuum! It’s my first Dyson vacuum (animal 2 dark blue-ish) and I’m thrilled. We did get the option with all the extra tools and I’m really not sure I’ll ever use half of them but it is nice to have. I’ve been through so many vacuums that I’ve just hated and finally splurged on this when it was on sale. It’s comparatively light weight, easy to set up but did take me a minute to navigate the wand (flip cap off top handle and pull up). Also to tilt there is no button so you step on the back of the floor base part. I would have liked a light on it, but not a deal breaker. Same with a retractable cord (doesn’t have one and I hate manually wrapping cords, but that’s me). Not self propelling but I’m not even noticing or missing it. I have hardwoods, tile and area rugs (no carpeting). Some of my smaller rugs do get sucked up, so be careful. That just shows this thing has great suction I suppose. We have 2 large dogs (wire haired low shedding and medium length shedder) and 3 cats (one long hair and 2 short). It definitely gets their fur and everything the dogs track in up (plus cat toys under furniture if I’m not careful). I used one attachment for plantation blinds and it worked great for basic dust. The angled attachment for top of doors etc... is a bit odd and may just take me getting accustomed to it (but it did work)! The wand is long enough to get my high ceilings/ corners / crown molding by itself (I am ~5’7”, but certain it would still reach for others shorter than I am). The fabric attachment worked well for a quick vacuum of the dog beds between washes (don’t use the vacuum itself on fabric without the attachment as it’s too strong). Easy to empty the bin too. It’s only been about a month but I am thrilled so far.

We'd give this vacuum 10 stars if we could! When it was delivered we decided to do a little test to see exactly how much better the Dyson Animal 2 was compared to our present Hoover Pet model. We made sure our old vacuum was clean with no blockages and thoroughly vacuumed all our carpets and area rugs. The results was amazing. The Hoover Pet had filled it's entire dirt container (bagless) with dog hair (German Shepherd) and dust. You'd think the carpets/rugs were clean. We went over the exact same area with the Dyson Animal 2 and WOW! It picked up an additional half dirt container of dog hair, dust, dander, etc. what we couldn't see and what the Hoover Pet left behind to almost half a container Yes, this Dyson is made of mostly plastic BUT we've had other brand name vacuums that were also made of plastic that was no where the quality of the Dyson. The plastic parts are tick and heavy. SOOO - Is the Dyson Animal 2 priced at around $500 really worth the difference from what you get in in a $200 machine??? OH YES!!! PROS: Incredible Suction - Much more than any other upright Great Carpet Brush System - Really brings the carpet knap up Easy To Push - Almost feels like a self propelled upright Easy To Maneuver - Turns sharply with the ball design Very Quiet - Motor Buried deep in the ball reduces sound CONS: Power Cable - A bit ungainly Stability - Has a tendency to fall over if not locked upright correctly Bad Instructions - All you get is a very simple pictogram for assembly FRUSTRATING!

I've operated many vacuums in my lifetime : Miele, Hoover, Eureka, Shark, Dirt Devil, Luxor, Kenmore, Kirbys, Electrolux and others. The Dyson stands out. Its build quality is superb, its balanced, not too heavy, maneuvers easily, and above all removes deep-down dirt and hair better than anything I have ever used. My most recent vacuum was a new Shark Navigator which by comparison, was unbalanced: the canister put strain on my wrist, had less suction, had a terrible electrical cord, and was challenging to maintain as it employe (9) tamper-proof star screws just to get to the brush assembly to clean. The Shark burned out in 2 years under light usage. The Dyson ball navigates much better, and I FILLED the entire canister in 15 minutes. I flipped two thumb levers and had complete access to the brush roller. Push one button and the canister removes for emptying. I could not be simpler. The 30' electrical cord is non-tangling and doesn't gnarl. There are many excellent attachments included as well as a carrying tote bag for them. I only have 3 minor gripes: 1) no headlight (2) doesn't pick up larger debris very well. (3) its too easy to dislodge the vacuum out of its vertical position, which can especially be problematic when pulling out the extender hose and also returning it to its locked position as the audible "click" can be missed. Even with these shortcoming, I highly recommend this Dyson.

What a waste of money & major bummer. Here's why: 1. The reviews on massive suction didn't frighten me - that's what I wanted!. Those suction whiners I thought - they must be crazy. And I now realize that when someone says it really sucks! They were offering an opinion, not a positive action verb. And,, yes Virginia - there can be tooo much suction (when it's working) Understand, - I am a power weightlifter - 5'2" can bench twice my weight . Pushing/Pulling that Dyson over the carpets took EVERYTHING I had - finally pulled an elbow out after two months. It sucked the carpet away from the wall. And YES it WAS filling the debris container - but I did start to wonder - along with the animal hair and dust - which I was HAPPY it was getting - was it stripping the fibers off of my carpet too? Yes Now I need new carpet. . IT wouldn't even move on the area carpets on wood floors. (yes the roller option was on). I looked at every switch on that thing to make sure it was set right- it just didn't seem normal and I thought something was wrong. But the vacuum repair shop took a look at it and said it was perfectly normal. My husband just flat out refused to use it - he said he didn't want to have to work that hard just to vacuum. Had to get the Shark out to do the 9'x11' rugs, or when it was hubby's turn to vacuum. (don’t even get me started on the “lifetime warranty“ that really is just a bunch of worthlessjargon, That means —-you’re screwed. It covers nothing and you may as well just throw away another couple hundred dollars.) 2. The power head of the vacuum is so bulky that it isn't that great on hard surfaces - can't easily maneuver around and certainly NOT under many, many things. Had to get the Shark out to do the touch up around kitchen cupboards, near and under the bed, chairs, etc. 3. So take it apart and use the attachment un it,you say. Well, the attachment unit set up is bizarrely not at all user friendly; bulky and non-functional. The hose attachment has an 18-inch hard plastic extender that extends out from inside the hose - the problem is that nothing in the extension hose can move independently from that 18 inch tube - it's awkward for trying to do ANY type of vacuum touch-up on furniture, window sills, stairs, etc., etc. Even for extended areas like ceilings etc. where that 18" plastic hose could come in handy- it idoesn't. It drags the vacuum with it - which tips over and falls on your foot, leg, etc. - just doesn't work. Had to get the Shark out to do all those chores. 4. Yesterday was Dyson ownership six month anniversary. I was actually able to push the Dyson across the carpet without using both hands and taking a wrestler's takedown stance to muscle it across the living room carpet. Hooray, I thought - Finally - maybe the brushes wore down or something. There was very little waste in the plastic dispenser - which is odd because we have a hairy dog and cat. Then I couldn't help but notice dog hair visible on the carpet where I just vacuumed. Got out the Shark to run over the area - and realized the Dyson had picked up almost nothing. So obviously something's wrong - going to have to take it to get it repaired. $$$$ After six months!!! My Sharks are all well over 5 years old - not ONCE for repair. If I don't just throw it in the trash bin- I will follow up on what the problem was later. But you all see the REAL problem here - I have 3 Shark vacuums which cost the same amount as the one, yes count it down (1) - Dyson. I have injured myself using it, chores take longer because I am having to turn BACK to my Sharks to get the job done and the Dyson's longevity, useability and functionality - is more indicative of a nightmare than a dream. Bottom Line: Save your money - buy 1 or 2 Sharks over the next 15 years - and save the remaining $$$ to do something fun you've been dreaming of (you can now take "owning a Dyson" off the list). I LOVE to vacuum. Every day without fail. I own 3 vacuums upstairs/downstairs & back-up. Researched to have the best I could afford at the times I bought them. It's almost an illness. BUT my lifelong dream was owning a Dyson. The ultimate creme-de-la-creme of vacuums. Finally saved up enough money and got my dream after 20 years. I was beyond excited. Then and now: Have you seen the kid's face that got extra large wool toe socks for Christmas after their parents revealed there is no Santa Claus-that's what I look like now. Don’t do this to yourself! Soooooo not worth it.

I genuinely appreciate the suction power of this unit and how much dirt and hair from my 6 large dogs it picks up. Generally it's a pretty good machine for cleaning. I have to clean the filters often in our dirty household, evidencing how powerfully it's picking up dirt. But, I can't give it 5 stars. I'd go 3.5 if it were possible. It's a 5 for cleanup, but a 3 or lower for additional reasons: - 6 months since purchased with moderate use (every third day use on average) and one of the roller brush bearings is going out and it needs to be serviced. That is incredibly quick for a bearing to wear out. Bad vibration now because of worn bearing and it will only get worse with use as it will self destruct the bearing further. I would have expected far better durability at this price point. - The head clogs WAY too easily! Many times I don't even find a large item like a maple tree seed or pine needle that clogged the head just behind the roller brush. If it doesn't clog there, it cloggs at the inlet to the canister. I pick up most everything I can see so it doesn't get sucked up, and still it gets clogged on a regular basis. Very frustrating how frequently and easily it clogs. I would have expected better design at this price point. - It's not the easiest to get to stand up. I have to force it to click into the upright position, and I swear it's going to break any day now as the mechanism seems flimsy at best. I would have expected a bit better quality at this price point. It cleans very well. Really happy with that. But I'm disappointed in lack of anti-cloging design and poor durability. Update after 3 years. Just ordered yet another brush head (second replacement). The second head lasted a year, under pretty heavy use. It still has great suction, if filters are kept clean. Reasonable suction otherwise. Still going (with replacement brush heads) after 3 years of heavy use cleaning up after multiple large dogs. Don't buy the cheaper filters. Yes, the oem filters are surprisingly expensive, but the generic ones here in Amazon never hold up.

I swear to God I should be a professional vacuum tester. I have a serious collection of pets - 3 dogs, 4 cats, fish tanks, 6 chickens, 2 goats - combined with 2 kids both with ADHD and myself and a husband to clean up after. Needless to say I vacuum A LOT. I go through vacuums like other people go through seasonal sweaters. Honestly - its impressive if they last a couple years. I also have a series of IRobot vacuums for daily cleaning - brava mops - steam mops and several steam cleaners. I have tried them all. I had a previous version of this Dyson and I really liked it. The cord is super long and the suction is hands down the best. However - the head had to be replaced several x’s in the 5 years I had it. It was under warranty and Dyson fixed it each time it went out - so NBD. But when the warranty went out the motor finally went Kaput and after about 6 years it died. We decided to try the Hoover wind tunnel as a replacement. Better price and my family had one in the 80’s that lasted forever - but the new ones aren’t made like they used too. Lasted less than a year. Then we went to the Shark. It did fine for the 2 years I had it. Except - the dustbin was difficult to empty and always made a mess - and the cord was disturbingly short. I always had to unplug and replug in different areas. After the 2 year warranty gave out its motor went kaput. Don’t get me started on the Bissell - total waste of money. Tried 2 different cordless vacuums. They were basically toys better for light dusting then actual vacuuming. My kids play w those now. So my hubby and I invested in this newer version Dyson. I like the anti-hair wrap feature which is new and important with this many animals. You can feel the suction as soon as its engaged, i mean it literally pulls itself along the carpet. This model is NOT cordless - which i like! In my house cordless vacuums just don't have the power we need to get up all the hair. I need that extra power. The cord is super long and this model came with so many extra attachments for curtains, stairs, couches, hard to reach areas. I really like the blinds attachment for my plantation shutters. I forgot how much suction this thing has! It really pulls up everything. Its got the 5 year full warranty and believe me - I intend to use it! If anything goes wrong Im taking it to the Dyson store and getting it fixed! That is why I decided on this one. I compared other models and most only had a 1 year warranty. Since my vacuums get abused so badly I decided better to pay more and have the longer warranty.

I bought a Dyson DC 40 10 years ago and fell in love. Three cities, five addresses, and two dogs later we started struggling with the suction and needing to put more elbow grease into getting rugs clean and pet hair free. Our 2 year old shepherd mix has the most stubborn hair, and what we hoped was a shedding phase turned out to be a shedding way of life. Because we love this dog, we decided to get a new vacuum. Looked at cordless and all the Consumer Reports, and decided to stay with cord and with Dyson. The vacuum arrived today, very easy to assemble. Love all the tools and I am excited to use them. The little bag it comes with is actually pretty useful. Had bought some extra tools for the DC40 and it was always a little bit of a pain to keep them organized. Animal 2 is same height but heavier and has a bigger canister. The cord is longer which is perfect for our 2 bedroom apartment, it can reach everywhere now. We had vacuumed two days ago, and was excited to give new vacuum a whirl. The suction and brush strength was immediately better, harder to push on carpet for all the right reasons. And wow, the canister has the proof. Jack’s hair has met its match, keep the dog and upgrade the vacuum.

I almost let a negative review by a woman who had a difficult time pushing hers prevent me from buying this vacuum. She described herself as pretty fit (paraphrasing) and I got the impression she was decades younger than me. I have no problem pushing mine on even my thickest pile rug. The suction is too strong for a thin, no pile, Ruggable. This is my forth Dyson in about twelve years. Three are still being used. The new one is upstairs, the next to newest on the main floor and the oldest in the basement. None of them have ever needed serviced or replacement parts. Bagless is the way to go. Dirt empties easily from canister. Filters are easy to clean. The only reason I gave it four stars for stairs is because I liked the feature on a different model that allowed pulling out the rigid part of extension hose ??? and reversing it making it stretch out easier and longer. I have one dog and three cats. It’s perfect for pet fur. Buy this vacuum, you won’t regret it.
