My Usage and Overall Comments: ============================== Have had the Bot for 2-3 weeks now. Mostly used on 2nd floor (bedrooms/bathrooms/Loft area) which is 90% carpet. I mapped this floor only. Occasionally used on 1st floor, which is about 50% carpet. (Not mapped). Overall it seems to do a pretty good job, keeping in mind these Bot Vacs are not meant for DEEP cleaning carpets. Much quieter than my old Neato Botvac80! Cleans my 2nd floor on a single charge with BOOST cleaning, and recharging takes about 3 hours. Overall I feel it's a good Robot Vac, but wouldn't spend more than $300 for it. Floor Mapping Review: ============================== - My 2nd floor is about 1,000sq ft and it takes about 10-12 mins to map it. - It's not the greatest at mapping. It will sometimes take 2-3 "Explore" runs for it to get it right because it occasionally misses entire wall sections. - Adding/Changing/Removing Room Labels and No-Go Zones on the app is pretty easy. If you're older, it's easier to do it on a Tablet vs the phone. - I noticed that once it completes the entire cleaning run on the 2nd floor, it seems like it internally compares the results with the full map(??), and if it detects area's that it missed it will go back to them to clean them. When it does do that, it doesn't always clean them in the most efficient order, often running from one end of the house to the other to address these areas. I have also seen this behavior when tasked with cleaning a specific room. It's will sometimes bounce around in the room getting the spots it feels it missed. - There have been times where I've seen it do several clockwise/counter-clockwise spins in the same spot as if it's trying to decide where to go next. Sometimes these crazy spins can last 30-40 seconds. - So far no problems with it finding the Base Unit and Docking with it. - Mapping is only required if you need to specify No-Go Zones or want the ability to vac a specific room(s) so you CAN do like in my case, map the most commonly vacuumed floor (ie: 2nd floor) then manually initiate a cleaning for the 1st floor. (see more about mapping in my "CONS" section). Detailed Review: ============================== PROS: - It's fairly quiet. You can actually have a conversation standing next to it as it's cleaning. - Their SHARK CLEAN app is easy to use. Again, if you are older using it on a Tablet (larger screen0 will be a better experience. - The self-vacuuming / evacuation unit works well, typically removing 95% of the bot vac's contents. - So far have not had any issues with it getting stuck in a corner, going over room thresholds/transitions, etc. - Bump avoidance it pretty good as long as objects are high enough for the Lidar Sensor to see it. - No issues transitioning between carpet and hardwood/tile surfaces. - Although it may not take the most efficient paths on occasion, and sometimes re-cleans a section(s) 2-3 times during it's total run, it does appear to do a very through clean, cleaning all the places that it possibly can reach. - It does well respecting No-Go Zones. - Ledge detection works well also, but the fall-off is only detected after about 25% of the bot is hanging over the edge - depending on it's speed. It can be nerve wracking to watch near stairs!! - The Evacuate and Resume feature is nice to have. (After every 30 mins of cleaning, it will return to the Dock to empty its dust bin then return to clean where it left off. - The Do Not Disturb Schedule works well. - The No-Go Zones work well. - Although I have not had a need for it as of yet, I'm confident the Recharge and Resume feature will work fine. FYI: - Initial WiFi Setup: I did have an issue trying to pair the Bot with my phone. I think after I rebooted my phone it finally worked. - Annoying - if you remove the Bot's dust bin while it's ON, it will complain stating it's dust bin needs to be replaced. - The foam roll filter in the Docking station gets VERY dirty real fast and needs to be cleaned every 2-3 runs. It's easy to clean, just tap over a garbage can to get the bulk off, then slide off the foam roll from it's base and rinse in a sink. Let dry completely before returning to docking station. - The Evacuation system will engage EVERY TIME you return the Bot to the dock. So if you pull the Bot off just to check the roller, as soon as you re-dock it, the evacuation system will turn on. - The Evacuation system is as loud as a typical upright vacuum, so keep that in mind when deciding on a location for it!!! - I have not tried the SCHEDULED Cleaning at all. I personally prefer to manually initiate when/where I want it to clean. CONS: - I was not able to Register the Bot via the app - kept saying "Something went wrong". Had to do it online. - The app could use some improvements/updating, like showing the current location of the BOT and what it's cleaned so far as it's running, estimated time of completion, etc. - Deleting your map when you want to do a "Re-explore" (ie: Re-Map) can take a minute or two to complete. - "Matrix" cleaning can only be performed on one room at a time. So if you have 3 kids bedrooms you want to Matrix clean you have to select one, do the cleaning, then send it out again to do the Matrix cleaning on the 2nd bedroom, etc. You might be able to work around this by setting up 3 Scheduled cleanings(??), one for each room. - The Mapping system could be MUCH better. I can understand it not mapping a shoe on the floor, but missing an entire 10-FOOT WALL SECTION??? Would be nice to have Multi-Floor/Level mapping also. - I've run into an occasional issue where after doing a manual cleaning (via press of the CLEAN button) on the 1st floor (not mapped), then using the app to vac a specific room on the 2nd floor (mapped), it will clean the room, but then starts re-cleaning the last 3-foot section over-and-over until I manually stop it. Others also have reported odd issues jumping between "Mapped" cleaning and "non-Mapped" cleaning areas. The fix for me was to delete my map and have the bot do a re-explore to build it again (and hope it does it correctly on the 1st pass). If this issue continues, I'm toying with the idea of not doing any mapping at all and just letting the Bot figure it out as it goes regardless of the floor it's on. I'll loose the No-Go Zones and Specific Room Clean functions and it will likely take longer to run, but it might be worth it until the Mapping Logic is improved. CUSTOMER SUPPORT: ============================== I did reach out to them when I had the "re-cleaning the same 3-foot section" issue after bouncing between a Mapped and Un-Mapped floor. This was during Black Friday weekend, and I only waited 5-10 minutes to speak with someone. They were OK, some easier to understand than others. I was eventually connected with one of their Technical Support staff and had to re-explain the issue. He asked if I could run the cleaning session again (I was fine with that) and he wanted to video record the Bot in action, so he sent me a link for the video connection. I was unable to get that working (Android phone issue??). He asked me to re-explain the issue to him again, and we got into a brief disagreement about how the MATRIX CLEAN function worked - he claimed that was only for "Spot cleaning", which I told him was NOT true. He finally suggested I delete my floor map and re-run another mapping session then try to replicate the problem again. I was assigned a Ticket# to reference when I called them back with my findings. After re-doing the mapping, I haven't been able to replicate the problem yet, and I'm leaning towards assuming the Bot works best with Mapped areas only, and jumping between Mapped/Non-Mapped floors is not 100% supported (???)

Great product. Was a little askance from some reviews but in practice totally happy with it so far. The only problem I had was initial setup could not get it through the setup on my cell phone, went to another cell phone did the same thing, back to the original cell phone then finally got it to work so that took about an hour of mucking around but since then it's worked perfectly. It scanned the house quite well, found all the rooms and allows me to select particular rooms to do, does just those rooms when I run it and rerurns safely back to base to charge, empties quite well. Charge only lasts for about two or three medium size rims but no big deal. A couple of areas it doesn't Edge well for some reason but others it does,may have to rescan but no big deal. It has a hard time maneuvering some furniture with bases like my swivel recliner but I just keep an eye on it. Overall a serious Time Saver and seems to pick up an awful lot of stuff that I wouldn't have thought was on the floor.

absolutely abysmal cleaning and battery performance I bought this botvac to replace our Neato. The neato has been good but Neato is no longer producing botvacs and the support is all but gone. With that in mind we decided to replace the Neato even though it’s still performing well, at least for now. We started looking for a self emptying model and one that’s only a vac because we have very little hard floors, a mopping unit would be a waste. Not having a proprietary bag was a big plus too. We looked at a lot of reviews after much debate settled on the Shark AV2501S AI Ultra as it checked all the boxes and had decent reviews. $550 was on the high end of our budget but when the price dropped to $279 on Amazon we quickly pulled the trigger! The unit arrived over night and well packed as expected. We unpacked and put the botvac on it’s base and allowed it to charge over night before we even set it up. Setup went Ok, but the first indication of problems started as soon as we had it do it’s first mapping run. We watched it and it missed lots of areas that the Neato had no problem navigating even though the Neato is slightly bigger. We wanted to check the full cleaning power so we set it to max and turned it loose. It came of the base ran about 1 min and then returned to it’s base... WTH? First fail. Restarted the full house clean on max again and same result! Second fail! Ok, maybe it’s something I did wrong. Factory reset, set it back up, did another mapping run and sent it out again. SAME THING! Fail three. Ok, I’m a bit stubborn so I send it back out again with recharge and resume & evacuate and resume both on. It only makes sense right? Low and behold, it actually starts to vacuum the house but… after about 45 min it returns to it’s base to empty and recharge. WTH? It’s supposed to have a 120min battery life! 3 hours later it finishes it’s run. Almost 4 hours to vacuum the house... The Neato did it in about 1 hour with plenty of charge to spare. Fail four! At this point it’s been an all day affair. Frustrated we leave it to charge over night and try again in the morning. The next mornings attempt 2 went not much better. I deactivated the recharge and resume & evacuate and resume and sent it back out again with max. Shark states it has a 120min run time so we figured even though it was on max it should have no problem with our house which has 800sqft of open floor space. At first it wouldn’t start because it was asking to empty the dust bin. Ok, completely emptied the base and bot, blew them out with compressed air so they were squeaky clean and tried again. Success! It finally starts it’s run. At about the 40% battery remaining level or so I noticed the suction sound reduce down to the “normal” level. Not cool… It did manage to finish the run but I noticed it wasn’t picking up even small pieces of debris. Fail five! Ok, my butt is really getting chapped about now so immediately I sent the Neato out on max power as we always do. Keep in mind the Shark had already done a run and the Neato needs to have the dust bin emptied every time so it’s empty too. Time to compare the results. All the stuff the Shark clearly missed is gone and it only took about a hour as usual. Let’s see how much the Shark and Neato picked up. I took both dust bins and dumped them each onto a sheet of paper. OMG! The Shark performed abysmally. While I didn’t do any scientific measuring you can see the Neato picked up at least 5 times or more debris than the Shark. And that was right AFTER the Shark had done it’s run. Bottom line – the Shark’s performance is atrocious. The suction is poor, the battery life is poor and the mapping is poor. This thing is headed back to where it came from! So disappointed...

Really nice automated vacuum that does a great job cleaning. I have two cats that shed a lot and this picks up seemingly all the hair off the floor every time it runs. It has good coverage of the entire floor and is able to switch between hard floor and carpet with ease. It sometimes gets stuck on a rug, but I think that is because the rug is low quality. The app will let you know when you need to clean or assist the robot and will try and diagnose the problem. Robot maps out the floor really well and is able to tell when something changes.

Long Informational/personal experience review for Shark Stratos 2 in 1 vac mop with power detect. Overall, this vacuum has made maintenance cleaning easier to keep up with. BUT, I would just recommend doing a bit more research on the programming quirks, software nitty gritty type things. I dont like that if I move furniture in one room I cannot just change the map in that room, I have to delete the entire map of my house and let it remap the house for 30 minutes. I also dont like that this model will run anything over if it isn't over 3 inches tall. For example, my dining room table has legs that are connected by a steel bar that runs along the floor (like an old school lawn chair) and the vacuum will run over that bar back and forth dinging up the bottom of it. I also dont like that the mop reservoir does not completely empty back into the base when it is done mopping so it always has a bit of watter sloshing around. Another mopping quirk I dont like is that when its done mopping, for instance mopping the bathroom or entryway, it will then keep the dirty mop pad down leaving a snail trail for dirty mop pad water alllll the way across the house when it goes back to the base. Bathroom & entryway germs spread all across the house. And then there the software bug or default issues. Like recently I have noticed that my robot will be told to clean a spot in the living room, then 10 minutes late I realize that it never did it because it got lost going from the dining room to the living room (a 15 foot journey) and had been going in circles the whole time. It has been doing this quite often, starting about 6 months after getting it. It started with the minor detour then correcting itself, then it turned into it being found on the opposite side of the house when I asked it to vacuum the entryway. Like I said, I didn't expect a perfect robot and it has made things easier, but the annoyances should not be there if I am paying over six hundred dollars for a vacuum. The app is pretty easy to use. Works well on hard wood, tile, and low pile carpet. Works on medium pile carpet too, just now as well. Does pick up hair but it gets caught in the brush and needs to be cut out every so often or it will not vacuum good. Also, it ran over a dryer sheet one time and it got stuck behind the wheel up inside and started running in circles, so I would check that often.

I'm no stranger to smart vacs - I have 4 robovacs, two of them self-emptying, mapping robots. My other self-emptying one is a Roomba i3+ (which by now is 3 or 4 year-old tech), so I naturally am comparing this Shark to that one. There's a lot to compare and report on, but I'll just quickly touch on some categories: - General cleaning power The Shark seems to be right up there with the Roomba. Suction power and brushing is very similar (even though the Shark has only one brush to the Roombas two), with the Shark having a minor edge in suction power. - Mapping The Shark seemed to map my house much faster than the Roomba. It apparently uses its lidar to do so, while the older Roomba had to physically travel over the floor area to include it in the map. The Shark map appears a bit more accurate than the Roomba's. - Cleaning style The Shark, like the Roomba, cleans in neat parallel rows, and they both do it well. But the Shark has the advantage of Matrix Cleaning, which covers the area twice - in two directions - and that's a great option. And I also like the spot cleaning option, as well as the ability to set keep-away zones with the Shark. - Flexibility Both machines allow the user to direct them to clean certain specified rooms via their apps, and both do it well. The Shark seems to go to rooms faster, while the Roomba has to think about it a lot before proceeding. Both apps are intuitive and work well. - Noise levels Sound levels are about the same to my ears, although they sound different. The Roomba has a sucking whine, while the Shark has a slightly rattling sound. ........................ Some negatives for the Shark: Maintenance - The Shark uses a bagless sytem, whereas my Roomba uses a tidy throwaway bag. While bagless may seem like an advantage, it requires you to clean the dust collection container instead of just pulling out the bag and tossing it. The bag also serves as a filter, meaning that the Shark has to have multiple internal filters (3 in fact), which have to be periodically cleaned or replaced. Object Avoidance -While it doesn't bang into walls and objects as much as some vacs, it can be too cautious and stop 3-4" from baseboards, leaving an uncleaned zone along walls. Looks like I'll have to pull out the old upright vac every so often and vacuum the perimeters. Profile - Its lidar module on top extends higher than on many vacs, making it tend to get stuck on low clearance furniture. It makes a very good effort to avoid these situations, though, so it's not a major issue. Dock - While it's a lower-profile dock than some vacs, it's also wider, so it takes up more wall area. Leaving the recommended amount of free space on either side is hard to do, so placement might be challenging. ............................ All in all, this Shark self-emptying smart vac is a great tool. At full price it might seem a little pricey, but it's on sale from time to time, and might be worth waiting for a good price. In today's smart vac world it's a solid contender, and it earns all 5 stars from me in spite of some minor shortcomings. ............................ *Update* - I've used the Shark for a month now, and I'm very happy with it. It seems to avoid getting stuck better than all my other vacs, and it has no trouble finding its dock and docking itself like some vacs. I can send it to rooms clear across the house and it just obediently goes there and does its job, then comes back. Matrix clean is awesome. Cleaning our carpet in one direction and then coming back in the other direction is genius. What it doesn't get going north-south it gets in the east-west direction. It doesn't seem to allow me to select more than one room at a time for matrix, but I can deal with that. I've been a Roomba fan for years, but this Shark is changing my mind!

The Good: This was probably the most inexpensive of the name-brand robot-vacs when I was looking for one. I was pleasantly surprised how much it picks up in each cleaning, including a big bundle of pet hair that I didn't know was lurking about. According to the "results" report, it covers the area well, and watching it work that seems to be accurate. I can see it going around the perimeter of the room , then switching to a grid pattern. I have hardwood floors, tile, area rugs and throw rugs and it mostly handles all of them with ease (see below on some issues getting "stuck"). It was easy to set up. The app sends a notification if there is an issue, such as when it gets stuck, the battery is low and can't get back to the dock, or the collection bin is full. The Bad: Although it mapped the room well and follows a systematic cleaning pattern in each room, it is incredibly dumb and inefficient about its strategy for the house. It will start cleaning in one room (say, the bedroom) then travel to the other side of the house to clean the kitchen. Then it goes back to the bedroom and cleans some more in there, then goes on to another room, etc. I don't know why it doesn't complete a room instead of ping-ponging around from room to room and wasting the travel time. No wonder it cannot finish the job without recharging! Speaking of which, it runs for about 2 hours, then has to spend 3 hours recharging, then comes back out to finish the job. I think it could get done in 2 if it followed a normal progression from room to room. the other annoying thing about jumping back and forth between rooms is that I will pick up one particular throw rug with fringe that is sometimes a problem, dog toys, shoes etc. before the cleaning. When I think it is done, I put the rug and dog toys back but then it comes back to the room again, and gets stuck! Speaking of getting stuck, for some strange reason when I am home, it never gets stuck and I don't have to intervene, but when I am not home it almost immediately gets stuck (sometimes for no apparent reason) so I am not hear to clear it and it drains its battery and accomplishes nothing. Strange since I prep the same (picking up obstacles) every time. My other complaint is that the scheduling is limited. You can only create one cleaning area. It would have liked to tell it to clean one zone of the house on one day and another zone on the next, especially given its lack of strategy for moving from room to room and the limited batter life. However this cannot be done. You can only set it up with one map and schedule cleaning for the whole map. The only way to clean a smaller area is to do a "spot" cleaning which is manual, not scheduled. When cleaning is complete, you get a report in the app, which is nice, but it would be even better to see a progress report during cleaning, especially when it goes back to the dock to charge mid-cleaning - while you are waiting 3 hrs for recharge, you don't know for sure what rooms are done.

We bought this during the 2024 Black Friday sales event. We previously owned a model from a different maker, but that one was a simple "bump" style that we had tired of over the last couple years. We wanted to try a smarter type that could also self-clean, so when this popped up on offer we took a chance and bought it. We have three large dogs that constantly shed, as well as two cats; all are inside pets. We have hardwood floors throughout the house except for the bedrooms, so the plan was for this little guy to handle the hardwood floors while we vacuum the carpets with a standard vacuum cleaner. I haven't had the chance to do an actual mapping run of the house because we are still in the process of moving in and there are boxes and other items in various areas that haven't been put away. I've only let the little fella roam on his own without mapping, but I hope to have everything put away (or mostly put away) by the end of the year. So far our little robot has done a great job on the hardwood floors. He picks up way more than the other robot vacuum ever did. It's amazing to watch it dock and empty itself into the base station, then get back to work all on its own. One great feature is how it cleans the brush roller. I'm not sure how it does it, but it does a great job. It does leave some hairs behind on the roller right in the middle when the metal support lies on the brush cover, as well as at the edges of the brush where it attaches to the motor. I wasn't surprise by that and it should be expected since those areas aren't easy to access without removing the cover and brush roll from the machine. The hairs came off super easy by hand, though. It was far easier to remove them than with the other vacuum robot we owned. The base station holding tank would probably last 30 days in houses without pets, or with one small pet; however, with our 5 pets it filled up within a few days of running 1-2 times per day. I checked it after about 6-8 days of running and it was quite full. It might have been able to run for another day or two (maybe longer), but I didn't want to risk it and was already heading to the rubbish bin anyway, so I went ahead and emptied it. The one frustrating thing I've found so far is the tall foam filter in the base dumps dirt out when you lift it out to clean it. I discovered that when I was emptying the base for the first time and decided to pull that out to give it a quick clean. Fine dirt just kept dropping out of it while I walked to the front door, leaving a trail of dirt behind. Now I know to only remove that when either outside or above the trash, both of which require lifting the base and taking it somewhere else. I can live with that slight inconvenience since the robot does so much work for me otherwise. Overall I am very pleased with the purchase. I suppose there are more expensive options out there, but this one is fine for our needs. I MIGHT update this review once I have the little guy map the house and start doing fully automated runs.
