I'm going to give this a 5 star review based on what I wanted this for: to keep my house smelling like poops. I have kittens and their poops were really bad while they were teething, and while they had an upper respiratory thing that lasted forever and even worse after doxycycline to treat a lingering sinus infection. Oh these poor girls have just had non-stop stinky poops. I started them on SafePet Crystal cat litter and really LOVE how it handles urine odor, however a bad poo is going to stink up the joint pretty bad. So I've been scooping their standard litter box very frequently and leaving an air purifier in the same area. This automatic litter box has a good seal on the waste container, so when a poo is dropped into the waste tray, it's not continually outgassing bad odors while the crystals desiccate it. There's no smell. So this is why I give this 5 stars. It's fixing a problem for me until these babies get enough probiotics on board to make up for being on antibiotics. But even at that, even a healthy poo doesn't smell very good, so I'm pretty darn pleased with this as a solution. Here are other things to consider, that I found frustrating, but not frustrating enough to reduce my rating. It's more like "bear this in mind". 1. This was AWFUL to put together. Have a patient friend to offer a second pair of hands and eyeballs and make sure you have something delicious to spoil that friend with afterwards. 2. This is all rigid plastic where there are alignment pieces. On piece snapped off during shipping and did not respond to the super glue that we had available. So we put it together without that little piece being functional and it was fine. 3. If you have cats that try to dig to the core of the earth when they go to bury their poos, it may take them some time to get used to the smaller amount of litter available for digging. Mine took two weeks before anyone left a poo, but they were OK to pee in it starting day one. Honestly, I think they know they have bad poos too and that's why they want to dig deep. 4. I honestly think this is going to be a nightmare to deep clean based on how hard it was to assemble. Litter pans are pretty straight forward by comparison, so if you're not sure if you want to spend the $$ on something like this and your litter box odor isn't that bad, keep that in mind. With the crystal litter, I don't really get clumping until the litter is almost exhausted, but then it clumps enough that it'll go into the waste tray also. I'm hoping this keeps the floor of the litter retaining device from getting all bogged down with unpleasantness. I will post back if I find the deep cleaning process to be enough to make me wish I hadn't ordered this. So far, it's not getting funky at all, so hopefully a deep clean is a very infrequent need.

My daughter has three cats, and they tend to be very territorial. They refuse to use each other's litter box. She tried an automatic scooping box with a rake that pulls the deposits out. It works reasonably well. She added a couple of standard litter boxes. Nope! They would prefer to utilize the mat that the litter boxes sit on rather than go in the box itself. Plus, litter gets tracked all over the place. We decided to give this unit a try, and it is a game-changer. It comes disassembled, and the assembly process seems somewhat daunting considering the number of pieces involved; however, the instructions are very clearly written, and it comes with a large QuickStart guide that makes it especially easy. One caution about assembly. Although most of it goes together quite easily, when you come to the part that says "put the two sides of the globe together," well, the phrase "easier said than done" was designed specifically for this task. Do not try to do this when you're rushing. Sit back, relax, and a little alcoholic beverage helps. First of all, don't try to do it on the floor. Get the litter box up on a table and sit comfortably in front of it because you're going to have to grab both sides of this large ball, preventing it from rolling away, and then guide the pins that are inside the globe into sockets, also inside the globe, several of which can only be done by feel. This will very likely take several attempts, but be patient it is possible. There are several latches that attach the two halves together. These do not work like typical pivoting latches. The part that hooks into the opposite side actually snaps in with a little bit of force, and then you can close the latch. It does not just hook into the opposite side. Don't try to use any fancy new kinds of litter. Old-fashioned odor control clumping litter is what this box is designed for. There is a collection tray that slides underneath the unit to collect the nasty stuff, and it comes with fitted plastic bags that tie closed to make disposal easy and odorless. It's a little bit heavy to move around however, there are hidden, recessed carrying handles that make the job easier. They actually are labeled because you probably wouldn't find them otherwise. I was going to show a brief video of it working; however, I decided that would not really be in good taste. Suffice it to say that after putting this box in place, the next morning, the poop was in the tray where it belonged, and there was no litter tracked outside the box. It remains to be seen whether "Hazel" will share her box with the other cats, but so far, we couldn't be happier with this solution.

This is a good automated litter box for smaller cats. It wasn't the easiest to put together for me - the pictures & instructions were not the best but certainly not terrible. I struggled figuring out the "litter saver" and with getting the latches to secure. My friend was able to assist me, so I think in part it was just me not being very good at assembly. Larger cats may find there is simply not enough space in this box, nor enough litter. My two smaller cats took to it immediately, my larger cat has not been seen using it yet. It is a bit of a jump up that some cats may just not be able or willing to make. That said, it does help with odors, and make scooping a much quicker process since your just removing the bag every few days. It is not overly loud, but may wake very light sleepers. The process of rotation does take a few minutes. I do like that its a pretty safe device. No door to trap your cat inside. Value wise it seems on par with other automatic litter boxes. I love that you can use any clumping litter.
