  • Comfy evenings poolside, with gentle heat from above
What I like: Feels substantial enough. Option to mount to flooring surface. Fits the usual BBQ grille size propane tank. Stable on its base. Can be repositioned easily wide side-mounted wheels. Lights up without fuss. What could be better: I have no initial concerns. Assembly was not complicated and there are adequate directions provided. The nature of the assembly meant that installing the heater unit into its vertical support "pipe" is done, which is then followed by securing the reflective "bonnet" above the heater unit, as a subsequent step. This means the user needs to get on a ladder, in order to secure the bonnet to the heater unit. I don't think reversing the two steps would work well, as trying to secure the bonnet-and-heater-unit to the metal tube may be too unwieldy. The vendor provides the usual cracker-jack-toy-surprise style of wrench, for those folks who don't own proper tools. I used my tools and I think that makes for a much happier experience than trying to use disposable tools that are included in kits like this one. Once assembled, I moved the unit outdoors from the garage and was happy to see it's easy enough to tip the unit and take advantage of the side-mounted wheels. It maneuvers easily. Once outdoors I installed the gas grille, which also was a simple affair. The instructions to light the heater are affixed next to the dial controls, and the push-button piezo spark device that is common with gas-fired equpment, such as barbeque grilles. The heater fired up immediately. It produces ample heat that seems evenly distributed around the device, as you would expect. It will be interesting to see the propane gas consumption pattern with a heater like this. Judging by the amount of heat this thing can provide, when on its highest setting, I predict the consumption will be faster than grilling - but that's just a guess. Currently I'm not in poolside season. We enjoy setting up an outdoor projector and enjoying a nighttime, poolside movie after a fun cookout day. This heater will do a nice job of taking a bite out of any nippy nighttime air. Looking forward to that. Once word of caution. the device's bonnet combined with its height implies this thing will do a handy job of catching any strong wind that comes your way, and tip over. Yikes. the device has three angled feet at its base, with pre-drilled holes. You can therefore secure this heater to its deck, should you choose to. You'll have to take this into account as any summer storm will likely topple it otherwise. Since I will probably want to use this item in different areas of the poolside deck from time to time, I don't think I'll use screws to install it permanently. I think what I will try is using a couple bungee cords to affix the item against an inside-corner of our deckrail. Hugging the unit into the deckrail corner may be enough, provided that I can ensure a strong wind can't pluck up the item from within the bungee cords. May take some creativity there. I could remove the bonnet when not in use, but that is a larger task and probably not user friendly enough to do for each use. Rainy weather will no doubt shorten the life of this unit, just as with an outdoor grille. Investing in a cover, or storing the unit under cover will be a wise move. Initial impressions are quite good. If any blips show up over time, I'll update the review accordingly. Five stars. ... show more

  • Great residential patio heater
This was something I have wanted for a long time. We use are patio nearly every weekend in the summer and having a heater out there will allow us to use it in the spring and fall much more. The heater itself is well built, the color looks great (we got the brown one as it matches out court yard gates nearly perfectly), and gives off a fair amount of heat. Based on the fit / finish I would say the quality is pretty good and I expect it to last for many years. Assembly was pretty easy, just do what you should always do and throw the tools they provide away the moment you open the box and use real tools. If you do that you will do just fine. The only slight negative I would have on this is that it is absolutely a residential heater. It is not built heavy enough to be used in a restaurant or commercial setting. So if that is what you are looking for this is likely not the right heater for you. But if you want something for your patio it's likely going to be just right ... show more

  • Warmth where you need it (outside)
This free standing patio heater looks good and provides a lot of warmth on our cold open (on 2 sides) patio. Assembly is very easy and it comes with a small wrench to tighten the bolts and cap nuts too. The bronze finish looks great and seems to be of good quality! I did remove 1 star because the hood/reflector was bent during shipping. I did my best to get it straight again, but it is still a little off where the bent spot was the worst. I just placed the hood/reflector where the bent part is on the "back side". Installed a new propane tank and now we have heat out back and are not freezing to death! So far I LOVE this heater. Will update if problems arise sooner than expected. At this point I would highly recommend this heater, just keep in mind how large it is... it is not made for a small patio area like most apartments have. It would be best for a single family home/townhouse with an open or partially open patio or a covered one (still needs to be open on at least one side for ventilation) as long as it has a high ceiling. I wouldn't recommend it for an apartment because most of them have low ceilings on their patios and this needs room for air flow to reduce the risk of fire and it's about 7' tall when assembled. ... show more

My husband is not handy, and I must admit he didn’t have fun Putting this nice outdoor heater together. It is more light weight and has wheels to Move it around which is nice. That said I live in the mountains on few acres. I put this under our wood patio cover. • Patio Heater Outdoor Propane Heater 46,000 BTU
This budget friendly patio heater was fairly easy to assemble and throws off a nice amount of heat. It's not top quality but in a residential setting, and with some care it should provide many seasons of use. Be careful where you put this when in operation. It gets very hot and will melt your vinyl siding short order before your house goes up in flames. Runs off a standard BBQ propane tank and was integrate wheels for easy maneuverability. A inexpensive way to extend your outdoor season. ... show more

  • Name brand?
I have four of these set up in my backyard for dining and around the outdoor furniture. They look nice and work really well. It has made our outdoors still a room, even in the snow. It is fun. We sit out and talk or eat, or sometimes read. In Michigan, you want to be pretty close. All four had different names but the product is exactly the same. They work great. The biggest problem in getting them out and set up is the blue sticky protecting them. We found unpeeling fromt he outside edges works best. ... show more
