I purchased this product because despite running two very efficient and very expensive heat pumps, my home was always cold. Additionally, my electric bill was becoming more and more outrageous. I was hopeful that the Mr. Heater Big Buddy Heater would at least be able to heat up my bedroom and also be able to heat up the master bathroom for showers and such. That said, I have been extraordinarily happy with the performance of the Big Buddy Heater. The heat output can be tailored to the exact needs of the moment, there are no unpleasant smells produced by the heater, and the fact that it puts out infrared heat makes it very pleasant to be near when the room is chilly. The heater is very easy to start with its piezo igniter and the heat produced is infinitely adjustable from low (4,000 BTU) to high (18,000 BTU). While the model I purchased did not come with the built-in heat distribution fan, I was able to add the factory fan with a purchase through Amazon (Mr. Heater Big Buddy Heater Back Cover Fan (E78404) (www.amazon.com/gp/product/B09S16JL8G)). I would recommend that everyone purchase the new Big Buddy Pro model that does come with the factory built-in fan. I use the Mr. Heater 6-Volt Power Adapter to power my heater's newly added fan (www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000HE6OAE). I also use the Mr. Heater 12' Hose with Regulator & Quick Disconnect (F271803) (www.amazon.com/12ft-Big-Buddy-Hose-Regulator/dp/B000UC7966) to supply low-pressure propane to my heater. I have found the Big Buddy Heater to be very efficient in its use of propane. It has saved me a great deal of money by not having to use my heat pumps to stay warm. In summary, I have been overwhelmingly happy with my Mr. Heater Big Buddy Heater purchase. I have had no problems of any kind with the product. Further, I have been so happy with the performance of the heater that I have purchased a second one. Mr. Heater should be very proud of this product.

A good friend of mine used this to heat his small home enough to keep pipes from freezing when his furnace went out in the middle of winter. Since then we have used his regularly hunting in a 10x14 canvas tent. My tent does have unzippable vents in both eaves, and with the oxygen-depletion sensor on this unit it can be safely used in a tent or camper with proper fresh air. However, as a safety precaution, I always take propane and carbon-monoxide detectors with us out of paranoia...you can find these at any RV Supply store... I've also seen questions asked about the 16oz/1lb propane tanks...It absolutely can use the 1lb propane tanks--in fact, it is designed to use two of them simultaneously (that's what the bubble out's on both sides are for, to each hold 1 tank). However, while I used it that way the first time, any more, I purchased the separate hose so I can hook it up to a 30lb tank (many use a 20lb tank as well), and it works flawlessly either way. I will say this about the 1lb tanks though, as they get low, their pressure isn't well regulated so you get a lot of popping and jumping in the flame across the heating surface (kind of annoying if you are a light sleeper) and in my experience, this continues for about 15+ minutes until the smaller tanks are finally depleted. This little heater has been such a staple in our hunting equipment that I recently purchased my own as a backup unit for our hunting trips. These are definitely worth the money. Also, while they are no longer adding the fan to the unit, we never used the fan on my hunting buddies heater, as it required batteries, and the unit heated our 10x14 tent area well enough without the fan...so don't let the fact that the fan is no longer a feature in the unit dissuade you from purchasing, as this is a solid, versatile heater.

We purchased 2 of these heaters a Big Buddy heater and the smaller portable heater. Both to run on 20lb tanks for use in our kitty cottages for our rescue cats. The larger heater gets very warm and we have only needed to use it on medium and high twice for 2 minus degree nights other wise a 2nd smaller portable heater would more than sufice. Heaters are well made and rugged feeling. Tip over switch cuts the flame quickly. Both heaters will run on smaller 1lb tanks. I'd say on low both heaters run for four or five 8 hour nights on one 20lb tank. We purchased the 10 and 12 foot hoses to use with the heaters so we can keep the tanks outside of the cottages. My only gripe with the large Big Buddy heater is that the hose can only be mounted to one side of the heater and the space to get your hand in there to hook it up is small. We love the fact that these were designed to be used indoors as compared to many other propane heaters. I saw another review by a outdoorsman who routinely travels with his heater and sort of puts it thru some abuse in the back of his truck and the heater after 2 years still works due to rugged design. Our heaters wont see that but I feel its probably true. Highly recommend !!!

GREAT HEATER - and far less expensive to use, than the fuel for the big propane tank, that is “delivered by” the Propane Co. It also works MUCH BETTER than my propane heater in the living room! .... which is cast iron, and looks like a wood stove. This gives off MUCH MORE HEAT. And, it heats very quickly, and “without the noisy blower” that my living room heater needs to be even minimally effective.... but which is nerve wracking! This is a surprise, because I have lived with gas stoves that look like wood stoves, before, but this one at home, radiates very little. So this Mr Buddy Heater, was a god-send last winter! Issue: The hose, needed to connect this heater to the 20 lb. propane tank, is NOT specified in the data here; otherwise I would have ordered it “with the heater”. I ordered a hose from Amazon, that says it is for these types of heaters..... BUT now I see that this brand (Mr Heater Buddy) says - in its MANUAL - that certain “model numbers” are what they use with the heater. SOooo, almost a month later, I am still trying to figure out if I can use the hose I got from Amazon. The Amazon hose, “GasSaf” has no model number; it looks just like the picture of Mr Heater Buddy’s for this use.... BUT I will need to now, call the Mr Heater Buddy people tomorrow - to find out if I can use the one I bought - or IF I need to return it, and buy one from them. Meanwhile it has gotten much colder ... and I’d really like to use this heater. This whole step could have been easy IF they had a note about it in their data on the Amazon site. The Mr Heater Buddy, information needs to state what hose to use. And, it is a great item!

The Mr. Heater 4,000-18,000 BTU Portable LP Gas Heater is a must-have for camping, garages, emergencies, or chilly outdoor gatherings. I’ve used this heater in a workshop and a tent, and it provides steady, reliable heat with three adjustable settings to suit different needs. The dual tank connection is a huge plus—it runs longer without frequent refueling, which is great for extended use. The built-in safety features, including tip-over and low-oxygen shutoff, add peace of mind when using it indoors. The rugged handle makes it easy to move around, and the black/red design looks great. I've had my unit long enough to do some basic testing. And I'd like to preface this with the caveat that my goal is to have an emergency heater. Not something full time!. That means said I have full confidence in its ability to eat my two bedroom apartment in a winter emergency for extended period of time. That does come with an additional caveat in the form of requiring external fuel. But I'll be honest if you bought this thinking you were going to run it at full blast on the internal tanks then you might want to go into recreational Pharmaceuticals or rather than space heating. Because whatever you're on is some good stuff! It chokes down fuel extremely fast. At least compared to a catalytic heater such as those used in tents. But it puts out a comparably higher level of heat. And as for the construction I'm quite satisfied with that as well. I will mention of course that this is the fanless variant but I honestly don't think the fan would make that big of a difference in the long run. D cell batteries don't run a fan for that long! And if you have the power to plug the fan having model in then you can plug in something to generate the heat as well as the fan! So I give this one a five out of five. Very satisfied.
