  • Windows will report it as 20TB- good service from the seller
I picked one of these up, the which turned out to be bad- the seller replaced it, no fuss. My second unit has been very good and reliable. It's working as expected, but I have set my expectations low: you should treat these as they are, reconditioned devices. Having a good backup in place is essential if you don't want to worry about losing a bunch of stuff. You should also ignore the review by Kevin Horecka. He is completely wrong about the math and is falling prey to the normal annoying practice of marketing being in base 10, but usable space calculated at the OS is at base 2. If you spend about 5 minutes running a search, Seagate will _literally_ tell you on their site that Windows will report the disk as 20TB as a result of the conversion. ... show more

  • Excellent quality, no visible marks of use, and not so noisy afterall. Tested as pretty much new.
Grabbed the X22 22TB for the following reasons: > I wanted to achieve the 20TB available capacity for computing (RAID Archival, and future expansion); > The enterprise level quality, knowing it will stand up to any future Small Business requirements and I would still be able to add 3-4 of the same HDD's in the next couple years, as well. > The 7200RPM and high sector block size capability has been what drew me as well as the SMR technology; > A personal thing, but the idea of a different X22 20TB/18TB (meaning that some sectors were disabled) was off-putting since I was interested in a refurbished drive. Remarks: > I had this drive shipped from the USA to RSA, and knowing the packaging would hold up was essential. > On initial power-on I noted the drive has been run no more than 4 hours. Obviously the firmware and board have been replaced. This led me to wonder, "why?". > The HDD has a nice OEM Seagate sticker indicating it is refurbished. There is no Seagate warranty to mention. > Noise? I can't say it's exceptionally loud or more so than other HDD's I interact with. It's the usual mechanical noise as any HDD I've been messing with, except it sounds way faster at spin-up, though - like it had a turbo inside. It makes this sound when switched on: nnnguuu... litlitlitlitlitlit... nuk nuk... mmmmmm > I am reserved about its use for absolute single-storage, and as such I tend to keep native copies of data across HDD's and SSD's (RAID / Archival / Cloning). This is not intended for daily computing at all, and nor would I advise anyone use it for daily storage. Mine will eventually be deployed in a mini server going down the line, in a parity storage pool. ... show more

  • Massive storage
Great deal especially after comparing prices with other sellers. This 22TB hard drive is practically new. Came sealed and nicely packaged. Hopefully this drive will last for a long time. It's always bothers me when I read reviews from other people who receive DOA parts. Sometimes it's just user error, so I try to keep that in mind. Overall, I'm happy with the purchase because I was running out of storage space on my media pc. ... show more

  • Failed to work out of the box!
I received this today. After plugging it into the dock it failed to work right out of the box. Absolutely nothing happened. The computer did not register it being installed nor did it show up in Drive Manager. Calling Amazon "technical support" is a joke. They offer no kind of help at all except to tell you to contact the seller. Returning for a refund! ... show more

  • Dead in less than a week of use. Drive was replaced with a good one though.
The drive I first received died in less than a week of using it. I contacted the seller about it and returned it and had a working replacement in a couple of days. The replacement is still working and all seems good now.
