  • Surprising great hard drives
Running good on my servers. I set them up as RAIDs just in case.

  • Dead on arrival.
After seeing a good number of positives reviews, I gave it a try. The drive was packed well. Unfortunately the drive was dead on arrival, it would not power up. Returned for a replacement. The second drive arrived well packaged. Installed and functional. However, after a few days, you can hear the heads banging with reads taking a long time. Performance continued to degrade for the next couple of days at which point I decided to send it back. I am giving it one more try with a third drive. So far, it isn’t looking good as tests indicate bad sectors. This will be my last try. Update 2/1/2023 I ended up sending back the third drive (16TB Exos X16 SATA) as it too was having issues with bad sectors and behaving quite erratic. I ended up purchasing a new Seagate 18TB Exos X18 SATA of which runs, well, like new. I do want to state that the seller was very easy to work with, I had zero issues with the exchanges and, unfortunately, the return. ... show more

... show more

  • Exos 16TB drives are good, renewed has high failure rate.
I have dozens of the EXOS 16TB SATA drives. They are great capacity and the speed you would expect from a 7200 RPM drive. I use them in RAID arrays in QNAP and Synology NAS and in USB RAID devices. The drives have been very reliable with one exception. With the drive shortage I resorted to obtaining renewed drives. The renewed drives have had about 20% DOA rate. Didn't work when they arrived. The good news was, I think because I order in large batches, I wasn't quizzed about "was I sure they were DOA." I had replacement drives within 2 days, although on one occasion the replacement was DOA. Used the shipping label they provided and dropped off at UPS. ... show more

  • Well they certainly work
I bought two of these for a NAS drive. They sit in the basement next to the network switches and fiber modem, so noise isn't an issue. The packaging they arrived in was very robust. Installation is down to how the NAS was engineered, in this case I just shut it down then extracted one drive by pulling down on the release lever, taking one out and putting the new one in. The NAS has to be told it can use the drive, but then configures the drive and copies the content. Repeat for the second drive and when complete the available storage is doubled. Since then it has been running for a few months. On writes and reads the drives and the NAS have no trouble keeping up with the gigabit network inside the house, I see steady performance of around 110MB/s to the attached machines. Mostly I used them for backups and hosting music and video. In the end these drives work as well as any other modern drives. If they don't last for long enough for 32TB drives to be common then I will update the review. ... show more

  • Hard Drive Arrived Dead. No spin up. Did not work!
Well, we all know that hard drives can be defective right out of the box. (Even new ones) All I have been purchasing over the last year or two is refurbished drives. This is the first issue I have had. Right out of the box. It arrived in a box that hard drives are packed in. But no added protection for that little box that holds the hard drive. It is possible that the Amazon shipping banged it around a bit. Tossed it, dropped it and son on. (It was not marked Fragile). But The first time purchased from this seller. And the thing arrives dead. No spin up, not initialize, no way to format. ... show more

  • Great value, a bit loud
Amazing value, had it for about a month and no issues. It is a bit loud when being used, and I can still hear it with my headphones on sometimes. I only use this for storing movies and tv shows, so I'm not sure how a game would perform on it. I definitely wouldn't use this as my main drive though. If your going to have this near you consider buying a noise cancelling headphones and raising the volume on them if a bit of clicking noise will bother you. ... show more
