I regularly dye my hair. My entire life I’ve been a diehard Manic Panic fan, with a little dabbling with Arctic Fox. No matter how long i left the dye on my hair, it would never fully absorb & would constantly come out patchy. Those both have doubled in price, so I was exploring different options… I found this dye, & OMGAWSH i’m in love. the color turned out so beautiful & evenly toned. So old would not come out of container. The little bit that did was old and crispy. I kept squeezing it broke the tube but would not come out and the little bit that did would not mix. Do not buy!! Very old!!

So....I thought that this would work, as it's darker than the brown that my hair was previously colored. I have strong gray regrowth as well, and it was a few inches long, as I was waiting between colorings to let my hair detox a bit. My hair is in great condition, thick, about shoulder length. There was enough in the bottle that I had about a quarter left over. I'd recommend two bottles for longer hair. My hair brushes the tops of my shoulders and doesn't go past. My hair was brown, and I had two bleached 'chunks' in the front, one on the top layers of my hair, one as peekaboo under the top layer. They were pretty wide. I was going for a two-tone, but one that I could wear to the office. This color is a pretty brown, smoky purple on the bleached areas. Otherwise, there's only a faint sheen/no deposit at all on my brown hair. As far as gray coverage? I did the full thirty minutes and started on my roots, so that color was on my roots for a bit longer than the length. And I can't say that it covered my grays well enough that I'd use this color again. I might, just to see if it does better next time or has better coverage on the older gray strands as it layers, but I'm not sure. My 'grays' are light silver and this couldn't entirely cover them. There's obvious less deposit on the silver strands verses the browns. The good news is that because I have more gray than brown coming in, the coverage looks pretty uniform. It's just not what I wanted. On my roots, it's a nice, smoky brown, with some lighter streaks where the gray is. On my bleached areas, it's the box color and looks really pretty. Over the existing brown dye, there's pretty much nothing that's changed. So, if you've colored your hair darker, do a prebleach. You don't need to do a harsh one or to do it for long. Just lift your hair to a lighter brown/darker copper, and this should work fine on it. Don't forget to wait a couple of days between bleaching and dying and to moisturize the crap out of your hair. I recommend Perfect Hair Day for colored hair. It's extremely nourishing and worth the price to have silky soft hair after bleaching. ... show more

Writing as someone with naturally wavy black-brown South Asian hair who’s hennad before. Positives: 1. Color is beautiful warm brown and the shine is gorgeous 2. Does not fade fast 3. Excellent grey roots coverage Negatives: 1. You can really smell the chemical after the first day of coloring once the strong fake smell starts to fade, and the chemical smell stays for a couple of days 2. The product left my scalp and even eyebrows super scratchy after 2-3 days. I did not feel this level of irritation was worth buying the color even if the color/gloss were absolutely beautiful. 3. I do think my hair became very thin after a week. I don’t think I lost hair from breakage, and I don’t think this had anything to do with me using henna before (which I’d stopped a good 7 weeks before using this color, and I’d even used clarifying shampoo before coloring to be safe) I switched to something without ammonia whose color wasn’t as long lasting or shiny, grrr. I wish I could use this again but the product is just too irritating and probably terrible for my skin/hair. Others may have a different experience. My search continues :/ ... show more
