I reckon this could serve a Tesla owner far better than a Rivian owner. Rivian batteries are double the size and hence a level 1 charger barely makes a dent on them.     • compact, versatile, slow charging
This Schumacher EV charger is perfect to always keep in the vehicle. I don’t mind that it’s a Level 1 charger, since that means I can plug it into any standard wall outlet. Only con so far it's the 12 amp output is a bit lacking, it’s quite slow and will take all night to charge an EV car to any meaningful level. That said, it’s ideal for use outside the home. I can easily plug it in at a friend’s house that isn’t EV ready or at a rental while traveling. The build quality of the charger seems solid and well made. it's very compact, I do wish the power cable were a bit longer, but it’s a very sturdy cable, likely meant for connection to a strong outlet like those used for power tools in a garage. it doesn't get very hot from prolonged use, maybe the 12 amp makes it very safe to use. The price is on par with many generic brands, but I prefer this one because it appears to offer more accessories for EV users. I also use a Tesla charger converter of same brand that works great. ... show more

We have a Tesla model Y. We use the standard charger at home for fast charging but needed something for when we go to our vacation home. This fits the bill well. Its not a lightning fast charger and requires the Tesla adapter but its good quality and does the job. Charging takes 5 times as long on this charger but is fine when just sitting at the vacation home. ... show more

    • Good Yo Charge at Anyone's House
Having to use a 240V dedicated charger is a huge pain. I recently got a Nissan Leaf and the 240v outlet installed. But whenever I take long drives, or even a bunch of shorter drives, I always have to plan out my charging to find a charging station and wait. And wait. It's not cool, and it's not convenient. Now with this, especially since it has a 20-ft cord, I can charge my car at my boyfriend's house, family members houses... I've even snuck a charge at a couple public outlets already haha. The build quality seems more than good enough, although I will admit I don't have the most trained eye for build quality for this sort of product. And it doesn't take up too much room. The media could not be loaded. This Level 1 portable EV charger by Schumacher, is a respectable way to get a slower EV charge that’s budget friendly. This charger is good for some needs and not so much for others. Here are some of the things I’ve learned while owning it and things to consider before buying. I. Quality – The quality on this one is very solidly built and especially for a Level 1 charger, but not even close to a top of the line charger. I’d put it in the upper-middle range of the quality scale, for EV chargers and guess it should hold up like other Schumacher products I have. II. Usability – It’s very easy to use, being a plug and play type option. It uses a 5-15 plug that is your typical house outlet and has a max capability of 12A, which is the most you should charge on a 15A breaker anyways. The main unit look very basic, with only lights to communicate what’s going on. I have others that offer some good data like volts, amps, timer and kwh that you can see through a screen. This one just tells you if it has power, if its charging the car and if there is a fault. There is no included bag, which would be nice in case you want to bring it along. Keep in mind that a 12 Amp charger is going to charge painfully slow, but it gets the job done, while saving you money on purchase price. Overall, this is a very functional, budget friendly option for the 120V category. With there being so many choices in the emerging EV charger world, it really comes down to individual needs and desires. If you’re willing to spend the extra money, there are higher amperage options that offer 32-50A charging capabilities (if your car can handle it), that’ll charge your car significantly faster, but do require larger breakers and sockets. I’ll be sure to update this review, if I ever start to have problems with it. If you’d find it helpful to see an up-close visual inspection of this product, I recommend you watch my included video in full screen or landscape. You can trust that this review is simply my honest opinion that is attempting to provide you with helpful insight that I wish I had before I picked this product. Great level 1, backup or overnight charger when you need to top off at work or a friend's house. Doesn't even get hot or warm. Level1 slow charging does what its designed to do. Plugs into a regular 15 amp household circuit and does its thing. Good quality charger from a brand thay has made auto and atv battery chargers for years.
