UPDATE: We ordered a second door and it came with a broken piece inside. The manufacturer has been great about responding when I emailed to get help. I decided to update my rating to 5 stars for their customer service. They are sending out a new motor box to replace the one we received. I'm more than happy with their response! While I'm still bummed I can't set the closing time, overall I'm happy with the doors so far. We've had the door on for about a week now. It was super easy to install and get working. It only took about 10 minutes for me by myself. So far it's worked without fail. I'm hoping it lasts. I took a star off because you can't set the closing time. You can set it to open at any time you want - which is great because I'm trying to keep my girls in the coop longer to train them to lay in their nesting boxes. But when it comes to the door closing, the only options are 20 minutes after dark or 40 minutes after dark. My girls are in well before dark so I'd rather be able to set it to close at a specific time that works for me. It stays open way too long for my liking and I can't adjust that. The other downside is the app. I'm not bothering with the app because they seem to want more access to info on your phone than is necessary. Also, you can set it up and use it without the app, so why let them have access to all that info? It's not like you can open and close the door from the app. so it seems pointless.

This is a 3rd automatic door that I purchased. first $35 was a toy grade worked for a week, next one was $65 that worked for 4 days, and this one most expensive over $150 worked only for one day. Accepts programming but fails to open and close to set programming. Very disappointed in this product, and don't understand why it has such high review on Amazon. The construction is sturdy, and mechanism works well, but electronics/software are buggy and are not reliable. It left door open overnight which put my 30 chickens at risk and did not open the coop in the morning, even though it was programmed to start opening at 7am. I don't think you can trust this product to keep your flock safe. It's unpredictable and fails when you least expect it. Which means you have to check if it works every day, which defeats the purpose of automatic door. You may as well open and close doors manually without spending $150

I bought this door after 2 months of manually opening a door on my coop to let the girls out. There are some good things to mention and a few bad. The door itself is easy to install and mount. After you read the instructions and watch a video, programming the door is not a problem with the app. I programmed mine to open and close with light but that did not go according to plan. My wife caught a glimpse of the coop one night and the door had been opened by something (possibly lightening or street light or car light) not sure what set it off. The chickens were fine thankfully. I decided to change the mode to GPS mode and this has worked well. I have it close 40 min after scheduled sunset and open 20 min after scheduled sunrise. The girls seem to be doing well with this and no more surprise openings in the middle of the night. The craftsmanship of the door could be better in my opinion. Seems it is made flimsy and material could be a bit stronger. Functionality - door goes up and down fine, but the speed is not all that fast which is fine, but just makes me question the reliability and durability of the motor. It is summer so I am curious how it will hold up once cold weather hits. I opted for the solar panel option, easy mount on side of coop, will update if batteries die before 5 years, that is what it is rated for. Overall good door, functional, easy to program, and fairly safe. Good American company.

This door is very easy to install. I had purchased another brand on Amazon and it failed me. I ordered this door to replace the inferior door that I had originally purchased. The setup for the Run-Chicken door couldn't be easier. I just downloaded the Run-Chicken app onto my cell phone, followed the very simple instructions and was done! The complete install and setup was only around a 15-20 minute job. If you want to allow the door to open and close by the built in light sensor, it will take you less time! I have food lights that light up the area around my coop. So, I opted to have the door open based on the sunrise/sunset times at my location. Just so that the lights can't interfere with the function of the door. The door is also programmable to have it open and close based on times that you specify within the app, or there are other cool options for scheduling also. Such as, using the GPS location of the door. The app figures out where you are located (once you give the app permission to detect the location on your cell phone) and you can then select for it to schedule opening & closing by the actual sunrise/sunset times for your area. The safety function works great. I set the door to pause it's closing when it is half way closed to allow the chickens to have time to realize that the door is closing and rush inside. In the event that one of them is inside the doorway of the coop, there is a sensor that will stop the door from closing if an obstruction is detected. Once the obstruction is out of the way, the door will close. We love the door so far! We highly recommend it. I will update this review in the event that there are problems with the door.

Had almost for a year now, it's been working great! After we built our coop, we realized our window frame was in the way when the door goes up, so we had to modify the frame for the door to go behind it. Ended up working out perfectly!

This door sucks. I saw good reviews and it’s American made so I spent the extra money. From the start I had issues with it not closing fully. Contacted them and they kept wanting more videos with no real solution to fix the door. Doesn’t “set” like it says you can adjust the open and close time. It open/closes whenever it feels like. The fact it has an app, but you can’t open/close the door from it is pretty useless. Now we have our first really cold day and the door isn’t opening. It’s blocked from the elements so it shouldn’t be frozen. The door isn’t even a year old. Extremely disappointed in the product.

Worth the money to not have to manually open the door. There might be cheaper on the market but this works for me. My only issue isnt with the product and is with my coop design. When water falls into it during the winter and freezes the track. 100% user error on my part and could be fixed with proper water displacement.
