CEMENT or BOLT the BASE securely permanently to the floor or into cement!
Loved it for three weeks... had it up on HOT sunny days, excellent shade, easy to rotate and change tilt. Today weather shows 6 mph gusts... maybe it got up to 8 mph? whatever; the umbrella flipped over tearing out two seams and ripping a hole where it hit a roof flashing! It is so heavy i had to hire help to set it up, and called helper back today to help pick it up off deck floor. I verified that the Purple Leaf enormous base was still topped off with water; the gusts are still nothing more than a breeze. I am heart sick at spending $600- using it for less than a month and only on occasions that I was home with little to no wind. The base the umbrella comes with: either bolt it down to the floor or toss it out. Fill the Purple leaf with sand? yes heavier... the hole is small... and in future you want to empty it? how? small hole... heavy... is sand heavy enough? or does it really need to be bolted to floor? ANOTHER THING: the delivered package was missing parts... washers and bolts/screws - Reported to the seller but never heard back... finally did it myself: it took many trips to hardware store to find proper bolts to fix it to the base... I feel devastated... this was going to be a great solution to hot sun beaming into sliding glass doors and it was super wonderful for the few times I used it successfully....show more

A FANTASTIC UMBRELLA WELL MADE WORTH THE EXTRA MONEY AND GET THE MATCHING BASE!
Size: 11 FeetColor: Beige
I read all the other reviews and spent a good amount of time researching before buying. I chose this umbrella because a guy had a really nice video showing how easy it was to set up and the heavy duty quality of the construction. I live at the beach and it gets very windy. I also chose because it has the rotating 365 degree option. Out of the box everything looked great and set up was very easy! I bought the purple leaf base you definitely need a base whether you are in a windy place or not. The umbrella has a very nice tiered canopy that lets air flow and it can be titled up to 90 degrees to act like a sun screen when the sun is really low. Fabric is good and the steel frame and the steel umbrella construction is top notch. Make sure you remove all the protective pads and tape under inside the umbrella before trying to crank all the way open. While sturdy, its so big we cannot use in strong winds. A very nice cover comes with the umbrella with a rod that helps you reach high up to put it on and it covers the steel support and umbrella. Again...buy the base ($70) that matches the umbrella you definitely need it....show more

Great product but respect the wind.
Size: 11 FeetColor: Beige
Made really well. Love coverage. Got heavy duty base with it. Filled 50 lb sand on each side and added water. A little windy today but not bad. Did have a puff of wind that moved it 4-5 in. Normal wind it’s fine. We do not leave it up while we are not on the dock. The puff of wind assured me of that. All in all I’m very satisfied with it. You need the heavy duty base....show more

This Umbrella is a Game Changer!
At first I was hesitant on spending such a large amount of money on an outdoor umbrella. I have owned a few and normally throw them away after a year or two. This umbrella is a complete game changer, and I love it. It has two handles that help you move the umbrella into almost any direction to block the sun. My backyard faces South, so the sun sits ontop of me almost all day. I was able to sit on my patio all day and only adjusted the umbrella 3 times. Since I live by the water, I do have a fair amount of wind come through and the umbrella holds up rather nicely. I did spend the extra money and bought the holder that came with the umbrella and suggest that you do also. The holder helps the umbrella move from left to right when needed...show more

Love my new umbrella
Size: 11 FeetColor: Beige
Love it. The Khaki is more of a tan / beige color without even a hint of green; which is exactly was I was hoping it would be. The mast is a nice platinum color with an eggshell finish. The umbrella, mast, the mechanisms to raise and lower, to crank open / close, and crank to rotate are very well made and easy to use. Just remember to raise the mast to the highest position before turning the crank to open the umbrella, then you can lower the mast to tilt to the position you desire. It took 2 of us far less than an hour to unpack and assemble the umbrella. We bought the set of 4 triangular base weights and filled them with dry sand, and I think that is going to be adequate to keep the umbrella stable. I am so happy I bought this umbrella rather than the model at our local garden center which was almost 4 times the price....show more

This is the perfect umbrella for us
This is the perfect umbrella for us. We live on a river just above the Chesapeake Bay. It is oftentimes very windy. This is an ideal size and extraordinary quality for our pool. After trying 8 other umbrellas and numerous stands we are totally satisfied with this purchase

Living in Las Vegas I purchased this umbrella to help provide shade in the intense summertime sun. The umbrella was delivered as promised and the assembly was very easy, taking only about 45 minutes. I also order with the umbrella The Purple Leaf Offset Patio Umbrella Base, which in my case was a wise move. The base provided with the umbrella is sufficient if you bolt it down to whatever surface it is placed on if you don't want the wind to blow it over. In my case I wanted to be able to relocate the umbrella which the Offset Base was perfect since it has small rollers so if you tilt the umbrella on the base you can easily relocate the umbrella. I am extremely satisfied with this product and I would purchase it again, but as I said it has yet to be tested against the Vegas sun and wind. This product seems to be very well constructed and is easy to operate. The crank when placed at the handle will open and close the umbrella, and once the umbrella is open you can adjust the tilt of the umbrella by sliding the handle up or down, and when inserted at the bottom of the umbrella pole you can rotate it around. The fabric of the umbrella seems to be very sturdy, but only time in the Vegas sun will render how sturdy it really is....show more
