I bought this umbrella for the deck of my parent's beach cottage. It has been terrific. We've left it up accidently in 20 knot winds and it just bounces a bit. The deck and cottage itself are kept much cooler on hot, sunny days when the umbrella is up. It covers enough of an area that you can have a chaise lounge under it and you don't have to be playing musical chairs constantly as the sun moves overhead. We’ve had this umbrella on our patio for 5 years and it has exceeded our expectations. It’s only slightly faded and is still in good working condition. We would continue using it, but we’re replacing it with the smaller 12’ diameter version in the same color. The 13’ model is such a beast that we didn’t trust a normal weighted base, so instead we stacked pavers on the base. It can be a little cumbersome to open and close, but that’s to be expected considering the size. It’s remarkably stable for something so large. The tilt and rotation functions are also well-designed and easy to use. We were careful to take it down whenever strong winds or storms were forecast, but it had no problem withstanding 20 mph wind gusts when we were unable to take it down in time. ... show more

I really like this umbrella. It is FAR SUPERIOR to big-box umbrellas in build quality, sturdiness, looks and operation. I love the fact that it is easy to assemble (use two people, though. Don't do it by yourself). Mine is in a fixed location, right next to the pool so I can shade my in-pool table. If you don't plan on moving it around (unlikely since it is pretty large), consider making a permanent base for it. I am not a fan of water or sand-filled bases (esp for the size), and there are many in-ground DIY bases on Amazon. Pick one, dig a large hole, put the base in, level it, fill it in with concrete, and you're done. I thoroughly believe that you get what you pay for, and the Purple Leaf umbrellas certainly prove that. We'll be enjoying this umbrella for many years. Thank you, Purple Leaf! ... show more

Had it for 1 month and we love it. This umbrella has changed how much time we spend on the deck. It used to be that we only enjoyed our deck in the evenings due to the heat from the sun, now we can be outside any time! The functionality is very good. It’s sturdy and very smooth to operate at the same time. The handles glide smoothly with minimal effort. Very versatile, I like that you can adjust the angle easily so is not stuck in one position. Has good wind resistance. Of course you shouldn’t use any umbrella under strong winds, but it does well with light summer breezes. It moves a tiny bit with the breeze but I’m comfortable with it, bridges move as well, some flexibility is integral to the design. Don’t like that the base is separate, but these things run expensive, still cheaper than an awning attached to the house. The base was challenging to fill because the sand we purchased was moist and the holes are very small. The manufacturer should make the base is wider holes. I might do a review update after owning for longer but so far worth every penny. ... show more

Tough as nails, heavy duty, no fading, works perfectly a year into using it. Good design. Umbrella itself is high quality. I own three of them. However, the base leaves a lot to be desired - very difficult to maneuver without wheels. And the umbrella cover, which is advertised as protective in all weather, is cheap and didn’t last a season.

If you are looking for a Cantilever Umbrella or any type of umbrella look no further than Purple Leaf! I ordered a 13 ft Cantilever Umbrella and it was 50 to 60% less than some of the comparable umbrellas that I researched. When the umbrella arrived, I was blowen away with the quality of the product. From how it was shipped, how it was package, and the simple instruction guide to the heavy duty base post and umbrella post. The lift mechanism for the umbrella is so well designed that my 105 lb. wife can push it all the way up, which is unreal for a 13ft round cantilever umbrella. In addition, Purple Leaf had the Umbrella delivered in about 3 or 4 day, well ahead of the 7 to 10 days estimate. Finally, I had a few questions and I email the Purple Leaf's Customer Support and they responded to me within a few hours each time. I am asking myself, why can't other companies provide this cost effective, high quality product with excellent customer support? I have 3 umbrellas for my pool area and will be replacing my other two with Purple Leaf umbrellas. Great product! ... show more

The PurpleLeaf 13' round umbrella is amazing. It is super large but very easy to open and close. The 360-degree ability is great! With just an easy crank, you can rotate the umbrella in any direction. We also have the base with wheels, and the design is well thought out. Given the size of our patio, we wanted to be able to move the umbrella, and the base is easy to move around in any direction. With another easy crank, the base lifts for moving and then can be lowered for stability against wind. This umbrella isn't cheap - in cost, but its worth every penny.
