  • Best LOW COST Alternative Dye on the Market!
Color: Flamingo Pink Size: 3.5 Fl Oz (Pack of 1)
I purchased 4 of these from this Amazon seller "BYPLE", I recommend them! This seller has the cheapest rates in town for this product, believe me I know since I use it often. I have tried many other brands and I stick with this one. Jerome Russell Punky Colour is super vibrant and long lasting! I have tried Special Effects before and it is long lasting and bright however, Jerome Russell does the same thing for half the cost! Plus I enjoy custom mixing my own pinks using a tad of blue or purple (for a cooler toned pink, I strongly dislike warm toned pink.) Flamingo Pink by Punky Color needs toning with a pat of blue or purple. The result is a bright shocking Magenta! Love it, if mixed right it blows Special Effects Atomic Pink out of the water. PLUS, this product smells like grape kool-aid soda :D AND did you know that you may do custom colors with these?! Say you cannot find the perfect purple or the perfect blue, what not.. well, I often create hybrid colors by mixing anywhere from 2-3 different Punky Colour dyes then store them for future use under the cabinet. Example being: Say I want a cool-toned pink? I'd mix 90% Flamingo Pink and add in a half spoon of Violet! Beautiful and gorgeous :) Or I mix Atlantic blue with Spring Green and come out with a beautiful sea-green! LOVE :) *Word to the wise, never mix greens with pink, purple, orange, or red! And never mix blues with orange or red! Anyhow, if you buy this product you will get your moneys worth. It is super vibrant, in fact, is so vibrant that you can dilute it for applying if you have more porous hair (as a result of several bleachings which are necessary to attain platinum hair.) Speaking of bleaching.. you MUST pre-lighten your hair several shades (if you are naturally dark) for this dye to take hold and fill your hair cuticle. That is how you get a very vibrant color-true shade from this dye. I highly recommend and cannot say enough good things about this bleach: Schwarzkopf Igora Vario Blond Plus Blue Dust-Free Bleach (Available here on Amazon) It has never broken my hair off, burnt it, or burnt my scalp. And as my hair is naturally dark brown, this bleach has always provided the most rapid lifting, in several levels, that I have ever achieved at home. That being said on to some more information which I hope you will find useful. If you are interested in diluting this product as I do then here is my diluting recipe and tips and tricks that work for me! Tools: 1.) Get a value package of vinyl gloves. Never mind buying them by the set at the beauty supply per hair coloring, way too expensive in the long run. A lady ALWAYS needs gloves on hand. You'll thank yourself for it whenever the hair coloring fancy strikes!) 2.) DOLLAR STORE: Buy a box of plastic spoons & forks, great for mixing and disposable. 3.) DOLLAR STORE: Buy a 2-4 count set of "tupperware" type bowls with lids - these you can use to mix your color then store under the bathroom cabinet for future use. My diluting Recipe: 80% Conditioner (Cheap one such as White Rain!) I use the Coconut scent as it makes your hair smell divine! 20% Jerome Russell Punky Colour (1 good teaspoon will do it.) Mix well to blend it completely, scrape the bottom of the bowl and sides to ensure that it is all blended evenly. Apply! *** You can control the amount of hair dye ratio to suit your needs, such a lower amount for Pastel Hair, or a higher amount for brighter hair. I never put it on full strength because it wastes product as far as I am concerned and PLUS I do not want to be stuck with the same hair color for months. Want to keep it bright and vibrant? Here is how: DO NOT use harsh shampoos at ANY TIME or shampoo often. Get yourself some "Dry Shampoo" to control the oily roots only, it will freshen them and leave your hair smelling great after absorbing the oils. Use a shampoo which is SULFATE-FREE only. The vegan section of the grocery store should have a reasonably priced one or you can opt for purchasing a more pricey salon product. Don't like it? Here is how to remove: I have very porous hair so it "grabs" color easily and sometimes it does not want to let go! When I want it out the first steps that I take are using 'Head & Shoulders shampoo'. This stuff will really fade it quick within a few washes. You can't just massage it into your head and expect it to work though. You have to massage it well through your lengths by rubbing the lathered hair between your hands from top to bottom, one section at a time. Then you will see lots of dye rinse down the drain. Once I have it faded I then take a plastic mixing bowl and mix up either an entire packet or a full scoop (depending on which bleach you have on hand, a pre-measured packet or a canister) of hair bleach with a 30 or 40 VOL Creme Developer FIRST, blend and allow to sit for several minutes to activate, and then I add in several squirts of any shampoo - which for those who don't know - this is called a "Soap Cap" I apply this to my entire head (wet or dry) and massage quickly then let it sit for about 2 minutes or slightly longer. Usually before I even have a chance to finish getting all my hair covered with this mixture I can see the color just disappearing instantly! SO the same may be true for you and if it is WORK FAST to apply it. There is no need to keep bleach, even diluted bleach, on your hair for more time than it needs to be, specially if it is already damaged. Mine is damaged however these soap caps never hurt it :) Follow with a nice conditioner! Not something cheap. I love Hayashi 911 Emergency Pak Re-constructor. It cost's about 33 bucks for 33 ounces here on Amazon. I Squeeze the excess water out of my hair with my hands and then apply this conditioner, clip my hair up and cover my head with a plastic cap (you can use saran wrap also! or even a plastic grocery bag) and leave it on for at least an hour. It is truly a moisture quench for parched hair! AND THE SMELL IS DIVINE! ***About using soap caps for removing alternative colors: Soap Caps work best on faded Pink, Yellow, Orange, Purple dyes. They are pretty much instantly wiped out. Colors I have found which don't need to be faded first to be successfully stripped out quickly are: Pink Yellow Colors which I have found are super stubborn to remove with either Head & Shoulders or Soap Caps are: BLUE Colors which I have found to need substantial fading to be removed easily: Purple Green I love blue and purple but they are tenacious, especially blue. At least for my hair. I hope this review might help out some newbies! Please remember that ALL hair is different and dyes and removal processes are highly subjective to each individual! The above tactics just happen to work great for my hair so I thought I'd share. ... show more

  • If youre looking for a color that lasts, this is the one. If youre looking for a color that lasts, this is the one.
Color: Flamingo Pink Size: 3.5 Fl Oz (Pack of 1)
Imo this is the BEST semi permanent color on the market. Ive tried all of the popular brands, manic panic, arctic fox, etc and they all tend to wash out completely, ie back to blonde, within about 1 week. Punky color typically lasts me about 6 weeks. For reference, I have baby fine hair, naturally medium brown, I bleach with 30 vol developer first and then apply punky color (pink flamingo) and let sit for 30 mins before rinsing. I typically wash my hair about 3 times a week, I dont use color safe shampoo. I only do my bangs, and a tub of this color has lasted almost a year. I have let it sit for only 5 minutes or so, and still, the color lasted about 3 weeks. If its not lasting for others, they may not be super familiar with how to make semi permanent colors stay put (such as cold water washes, a long soak application, ensuring the hair is bleached prior to application). This product is amazing, affordable, smells great, long lasting, and ive been using it since at least 2021. Also I have very pink skin, and orangy pinks wash me out, this one is the perfect purple based pink! Photos below are 2/15/26 right after a fresh application and 4/1/26 when its mostly washed out. ... show more

  • Great Vibrant Color! Great Vibrant Color!
Color: Fire Size: 3.5 Fl Oz (Pack of 1)
I recently tried Punky Colour in lagoon blue and fire red for my kids. I spent a long time looking for a non-damaging color for my kids hair. I'm a long-term user of Overtone, but it never showed up quite as bright in my kid's hair. My son's hair is on the darker side, so I had to lighten it twice, and even at that, it still had the yellow/orange tone. The colors were actually incredibly vibrant, especially the red, and lasted through several washes. This was a great alternative for a non-damaging hair color for kids! The red jar had less product than the blue, but was still mostly full. The dye smells amazing, like bubblegumish, and it left my son's lightened hair feeling moisturized. The last photos of his hair (the ones taken outside) are from after being washed 3 times. The red did bleed down his face after his first wash when he was outside in the rain and it stained his skin orange for about a day and a half. For that reason and because of the red not being full, i gave it 4 stars. I'll definitely be buying Punky Colour again though! ... show more

  • Loved this purple!! Loved this purple!!
Color: Violet Size: 3.5 Fl Oz (Pack of 1)
I got the Punky Color dye in the shade Violet. The first pic is where i started, second is after bleach to show how light it was, and the rest are after dying it purple in a few different lightings. I chose this dye as it was pretty cheap, with decent reviews, and a cool toned purple. I started this journey wanting lavender hair, which I eventually semi-ditched as I came to realize that not only would it be hard to achieve well but also would not last me very long. Sooo.... I altered what i wanted for a cool-toned purple so it would eventually fade to a lighter purple color (instead of a warm-toned purple that would fade to more of a pink). It stuck really well to my bleached hair. I did dye my non-bleached eyebrows with it (which I was terrified to do as I had heard of this dye staining from other reviews) and it did not hold really at all, which I knew it wouldn't be a lot of color even if it did. I kind of just figured I would use the last bit of dye to see if it would tint my eyebrows enough to tie the look together. That being said, I wouldn't recommend to use this on dark hair. Although I toned my hair, I do think my hair was still a little warm toned (probably because either my hair was too wet when I applied the toner or because my hair wasn't light enough). That being said, despite that, my hair came out a very vivid cool-toned (for the most part) purple. It does look pretty warm-toned in warm lighting. It's been about two weeks now and it hasn't faded at all which I'm pretty happy with. It did kind of stain when rinsing, but it surprisingly did little damage to the tub. I rinsed the dye off by tipping my head over the tub and rinsing under the faucet. So I would say as long as the water is running or you can wipe any outlying spots quickly that I wouldn't worry. However I found that a little bleach easily wiped any bits that did stain off. Head and shoulders also did wonders when taking the dye off my eyebrows. That being said, despite not bleeding for a handful of days directly afterwards, it did start bleeding randomly on day #4 or 5, but stopped again after I washed my hair again. So, I wouldn't worry about that much either- just something look out for. My nails however are still purple lol. I definitely would recommend this dye. ... show more

  • Punky Midnight Blue - Incredibly Bad Hair Dye, extreme home damage
Color: Midnight Blue Size: 3.5 Fl Oz (Pack of 1)
I've been coloring my hair for years and have application brushes, gloves, a dye bowl. Additionally I keep everything handy for clean up and am very careful. My usual hair color was out of stock on Amazon which is a dark blue / black semi-permanent. I thought this might be a good bridge until it came back in stock and maybe the blue would be fun. First off - Pro's: There was enough product for my hair. It was inexpensive. It arrived quickly. No mixing required. Claims to be gentle on hair and not tested on animals. It didn't seem to dry out or hurt my hair, which is good. It said it dyed easily and that's true. It took to everything it touched and colored it blue. Cons: This particular pigment, Midnight Blue, stains immediately anything it comes in contact with and is almost impossible to remove. Despite two pairs of gloves and rinsing my hair for ten minutes + and using soap and conditioner, as soon as I touched my hair after washing with my bare hands they turned Smurf blue. I rinsed some more. I washed my hands with dish soap, and tried fingernail remover -- but it's days later and my nails are still blue and my hands are blue tinged still. (I painted over my blue fingernails and the blue dye leached through... amazing) Even a single strand of hair that would fall out would stain anything it touched. My kitchen sink that I rinsed my hair in was an unholy, unfathomable mess. It still has blue stains after I bleached it (and let the bleach sit). I realized anything I came in contact with was turning blue, despite having thoroughly rinsed my hair. I jumped in the shower for nearly an hour and rinsed and rinsed and rinsed my hair with various soaps, conditioners, oils -- I tried a bunch of stuff to remove the blue. The blue did partially come off my grey hair and areas that I had tried to cover, so now my grey roots are back ;-P lol Everywhere my hair had splashed in my shower turned blue. (Despite having rinsed it thoroughly before showering!) It looked like exploded blueberry Smurf. I have not been able to get the blue removed from the shower. My shower is some sort of plastic and just took the stain instantly. After washing and rinsing and washing and rinsing -- I finally did get the blue off my face and neck -- whew. I thought maybe the worst was behind me. I dried my hair and got on with life, but the blue was still there. And that's how my recliner was ruined. I had dry hair after many, many washes and it still stained my brown chair. It also took out my sheets on my bed and anything else I have touched with my hair and head since then despite thorough washing. The blue dyes instantly and is insidious. Anything that touches it stains and spreads it. I would imagine that most of the dyes this company produces are not this bad, that this midnight blue is probably just exceptionally noxious. So to recap, my shower is an unholy mess that I haven't managed to clean and may potentially be ruined as far as appearance goes. Bleach did not fully remove it from my kitchen sink, recliner is stained blue, and my sheets are ruined etc. Although it didn't ruin my hair, it will be an expensive mess to deal with for awhile. ... show more

  • The color actually turned out great, a solid eggplant purple with neither too much ...
For background: I've been dying my hair for close to 8 years now, and I've used many different brands before, including Punky Color in the past. The color I purchased this time was Plum. So, I've been looking for a dark purple dye for a while now. I've had hair in just about every color, including mid to lighter purple, but really wanted something dark. My hair was previously silver (faded down from blue on bleached hair) with some light brown roots. The color actually turned out great, a solid eggplant purple with neither too much blue nor too much red. I might have liked it a little darker, but that's entirely my doing for putting this on previously bleached hair. If you have platinum blonde or white hair, expect this color to be pretty bright. If you're using it on non-bleached or darker hair, don't expect a bright color: you'll probably end up with more of a tint than anything. Overall, the color was great. My complaints lie in the actual coloring process. Like I've said, I've been dying my hair for years, and I've used many brands to dye my hair dozens of times. When compared to common store-bought brands or higher end brands, regardless of the actual color, Punky is a bit of a pain. I'd be extra cautious about using it if you've never dyed your hair or if you've only used store brands before. Put simply: It's REALLY messy. Of course you can do the standard things to be careful: wear gloves, coat your hairline and ears with petroleum jelly, put down plastic wrap/towels on your work space, etc. Still, the color is going to be a pain, and will stain any surface. For example, be EXTRA careful with your bathtub for the initial wash and subsequent few washes. It will stain!! Really, this is the only brand I've ever seen do this much damage to a bathroom. I suspect the over-concetration of pigment is to blame, even if it makes a good color on your hair. It will also stain every part of your skin. For example, as of my writing, the color is still very apparent on my hands, under my nails, and on my scalp. Plan ahead to be able to wash your hair at least twice before going out with this color. It will even stain your skin by just washing over it. During the initial washout, my hands and face were completely tinted purple, and I had to scrub hard with soap/cosmetic remover to get it to go away. A few smaller points for the product: -It's one of the only dyes I've encountered that's scented. The plum color has a STRONG grape flavor scent. It's a bit refreshing when compared to the harsh smells of some dyes, and it does leave your hair smelling nice, but I imagine this does more harm than good. Be wary if you're sensitive to scented products, or if you have animals/children in the house as you can smell the sweet scent even before it's opened. -The packaging is kind of disappointing when compared to other dyes or store-bought dyes. It came to me in a padded mailer and just a jar. It has a clear plastic shrink wrap on it (like you might find on a bottle), but no seal underneath the cap, meaning the underside of the cap is already covered in dye. The instructions are also printed on the reverse of the label (like a pill bottle) which makes it kind of difficult. I would have much preferred that the dye come packaged in a box like store-bought dyes with written instruction and a pair of gloves. I was lucky enough to already have disposable gloves. I understand they skip packaging to save money, but I would be fine paying a dollar or two more to see packaging that rivals store-bought dyes. -One positive note is that the dye comes premixed, meaning it can be stored safely for later use if you have extra for touch-ups and such. I didn't up having much extra though, even though I only have chin-length hair, so take note if you have long hair that you might need more than one package. -As I stated above, I've actually used this dye before, though it was years ago. It really hasn't changed since, which is a little disappointing. I still remember the strong sweet smell, the stained skin, and the stained bathtub. I put it down to just being inexperienced before or hoped it had improved, but the same is still true now. Overall, it's not a terrible product. It's definitely affordable in comparison to high-end dyes and getting it done in a shop, and the colors are strong and diverse. However, Punky dyes just have so many little problems that could easily be sorted, and the big problem of being so messy. I would stay away from this product unless you're more experienced with dying hair and can afford to get your bathroom a little colorful. ... show more

  • Super Pigmented, Lasts Forever Super Pigmented, Lasts Forever
Color: Apple Green Size: 3.5 Fl Oz (Pack of 1)
This is by far my favorite hair coloring product. I tried multiple brands that were more expensive, but none held up as well and gave me the color intensity I was after. Green is my favorite color, and Punky has three shades of it. I got stuck on the Spring Green. It resembles the color of lime jello. It is intense and warm and just the right account of brightness. I don’t think I have ever gotten so many compliments on a hair color. There’s not a single day when I’m out that bit at least one person stops and tells me they love the color. Due to the strong pigmentation, it’s really important to use Vaseline along the hairline and on the ears, otherwise you will walk around with leprechaun green ears for a day or two. For the first few weeks, it will also rub off on the pillows, especially if you have a tendency to sweat at night. But the color stays bright and strong for a minimum of one month, often even longer. It’s slowly fades into a more yellowish green, but at every stage, it is still beautiful. I haven’t tried out any other colors of punky other than the greens, so I can’t speak for how the other colors hold up. But as for all the greens I tried, they are way above average, and the price really can’t be beat. ... show more

Color: Turquoise Size: 3.5 Fl Oz (Pack of 1)
I’m an older lady who wanted something fun. I wanted streaks and not an all over color. This dye was a prize! It does smell like grapes and came out of the jar a dark blue but the container said turquoise so I went with it. I let it sit for 30 mins then rinsed it out and blow dried my hair. I was thrilled with the color. It did very well on white hair not as well on darker hair. But my hair texture was incredibly flat and I think it’s because of the Aquaphor I put around me my face to keep it from staining - I think that got in my hair and just flattened the whole thing out. This picture of me is after shampooing a couple of times. Just to get all the oil out of my hair. My hair is still damp at this photo, but I’m really pleased with it. For the price and a little amount I used this container is going to keep me going for a while. I would recommend it. One thing that was difficult for me was to find the instructions, the instructions are under the label. ... show more
