Amazing and very vivid color. There's no weird smell, the smell actually reminds me of grape. Did not stain my skin, or tub. I actually dropped a lot on my sink, bathroom floor and door for under the sink. Was very easy to wipe off and didn't leave behind anything permanent. I slept on my white pillowcase with my hair damp, and it did not ruin it. The jar is a bit small which is my only complaint. Have yet to see how fast the color fades over time. ... show more

I got the Punky Color dye in the shade Violet. The first pic is where i started, second is after bleach to show how light it was, and the rest are after dying it purple in a few different lightings. I chose this dye as it was pretty cheap, with decent reviews, and a cool toned purple. I started this journey wanting lavender hair, which I eventually semi-ditched as I came to realize that not only would it be hard to achieve well but also would not last me very long. Sooo.... I altered what i wanted for a cool-toned purple so it would eventually fade to a lighter purple color (instead of a warm-toned purple that would fade to more of a pink). It stuck really well to my bleached hair. I did dye my non-bleached eyebrows with it (which I was terrified to do as I had heard of this dye staining from other reviews) and it did not hold really at all, which I knew it wouldn't be a lot of color even if it did. I kind of just figured I would use the last bit of dye to see if it would tint my eyebrows enough to tie the look together. That being said, I wouldn't recommend to use this on dark hair. Although I toned my hair, I do think my hair was still a little warm toned (probably because either my hair was too wet when I applied the toner or because my hair wasn't light enough). That being said, despite that, my hair came out a very vivid cool-toned (for the most part) purple. It does look pretty warm-toned in warm lighting. It's been about two weeks now and it hasn't faded at all which I'm pretty happy with. It did kind of stain when rinsing, but it surprisingly did little damage to the tub. I rinsed the dye off by tipping my head over the tub and rinsing under the faucet. So I would say as long as the water is running or you can wipe any outlying spots quickly that I wouldn't worry. However I found that a little bleach easily wiped any bits that did stain off. Head and shoulders also did wonders when taking the dye off my eyebrows. That being said, despite not bleeding for a handful of days directly afterwards, it did start bleeding randomly on day #4 or 5, but stopped again after I washed my hair again. So, I wouldn't worry about that much either- just something look out for. My nails however are still purple lol. I definitely would recommend this dye. ... show more

I tried Punky Violet Semi-Permanent Hair Color, and honestly, the color is gorgeous. It gives a bold purple/violet tone that really pops, especially on lighter or pre-lightened hair. The formula is easy to apply, doesn’t feel harsh, and left my hair feeling softer than I expected. Like most semi-permanent colors, the final result depends a lot on your starting hair color. If your hair is darker, you may get more of a tint than a bright violet. On lighter hair, though, it shows up beautifully. It does fade over time, but the fade is pretty and doesn’t look muddy. A little tip: wear gloves, protect your sink and counters, and use an old towel unless you enjoy accidental purple home décor. Cute in theory, annoying in real life. If you're looking for vibrant color, this stuff gives just that. Keep in mind that I had grown out highlights where I wanted to pick up the color, and I left it on for 30 minutes just to be safe. where my hair was dark, it just made my hair look darker but not purple. My end game is to hopefully have it wash out to a pastel purple, but the dark purple was actually really pretty. The smell wasn't bad. It had a hint of grape scent to it. The actual mess though....let me give you the details. First, make SURE you put lotion or vaseline around your forehead, ears, and neck. It states it in the directions, but be sure you don't skip that. It will dye your skin temporarily. Also, make sure to wear gloves while applying (AND WASHING the 1st rinse....I made that mistake). Be prepared to scrub your tub. I think I used 4 different cleaning products to clean my tub after rinsing my hair. It stained the tub on the 2nd wash, too. Don't worry, it's clean now! The 3rd wasn't bad and stopped staining at that point. Also, use an old towel to dry your hair just to be safe until there is no color left. If you're willing to risk the clean up, I say this is the best bang for your buck with an awesome result. Can you use shampoo on the first rinse? I recommend it, but that's just me. I just rinsed with water at first, but I felt like I still had some residue, so I washed with my shampoo. (1st picture=1st wash, 4th picture = 3rd wash, 5th picture = 5th wash). The color was still vibrant. After 5 washes (last picture) it has faded a little. I wash my hair every 3-4 days, and I use a natural shampoo bar (not sure if that helps retain the color). Punky color states it will last up to 35 washes but will fade with every wash. So far, I'm happy with the results, the fading, and it seems like others are really happy with it, too! ... show more

It's decent semi permanent color but it literally washed out after 4 hair washes under cold water...it's supposed to last for at least 20 shampoos, higher end being around 30. So I am a bit disappointed, the color however is very nice

i was originally planning on buying another brand of dye but after having bought punky color’s color depositing shampoo twice, i had enough trust that the actual dye would be great. i noticed a kind of a thick consistency but was easily fixed with a little bit of conditioner mixed in. smells super good (grape scented) and application was super easy! i had a decently light base but it was definitely nowhere near blonde or light blonde and the color is still pretty vibrant. people mentioned staining so i was a bit worried but dishsoap and a sponge got any dye off surfaces, and if the stain is fresh, water and a napkin will do. instructions say to use vaseline to prevent staining but it really wasnt necessary as i wiped off any excess dye from my forehead or neck and then when i washed it out the remainder came off. it stained my hands a little while i was styling my hair but after washing my hands twice it fully came off. i recommend washing the dye out in a sink anyway just to make sure you dont stain your bathroom. great color will be buying again once it fades! :) ... show more

I've used other bright color dyes and had to redo them every few weeks. I'm coming up on a month with this product and the color still looks pretty good. I am going to freshen it up in about 10 days, but could probably go longer
