I installed this EV direct to the electric panel. I used a 60 Amp circuit breaker to get the fastest charge for my car. My Tesla Model X has a dual charger option it can handle up to 72 Amp. This EV charger has a 48 Amp limit but it's fast enough. The package include everything you needed to install this charger, but you will need to provide the 6 AWG cables run from the electrical panel to the charger location and a 60 Amp or lower circuit breaker. My run was short and it took me about 45 minutes to complete this installation. I mounted the bracket on the wall, then hang charger onto the bracket. The charging cable is nice and long. It is weatherproof so you can install this outside if needed. The app provides additional function such as schedule charging, and can show additional information. This data is great but Tesla also provides the data on the Tesla app as well, but other EVs may not have this functions. Overall, this is one of the better charger on the market and I highly recommend this product.

Cheaper than an official Tesla charger yet you're not missing a thing. Installation is a breeze if you've got some basic DIY skills and a power drill. Once it's up and running, there's not really much more to say. Like any EV charger, you plug it in and forget it. I switched out a slightly more expensive charger for this specific one, and it's been a perfectly comparable experience. Highly recommended. One note: During installation, it can be a bit difficult to follow the instructions at certain points due to the fact that some steps don't relate to this specific model, however it's easy to figure out with a bit of intuition and perception.

I've installed this charger by myself after adding a NEMA 14-50 outlet to my prewired electric box. The box is connected to a 40-amp breaker setup for this purpose inside my electric panel. I'm charging a Tesla Model Y with the PointGuard charger. It automatically activates when I connect the charge plug to the car. The charger has a great amount of information for a professional installer. It's connected to my home Wi-Fi network, set up easily through the mobile application you download from the iOS/Android app stores. The app also differentiates between the installer and the end user and changes its interface accordingly. To the end user, it provides capabilities to schedule charging (e.g., during night time if it's cheaper), info about the kwH used for charging, etc. Some of this info is also available from my Tesla app, but the detail here is much deeper. The charge cable is also reasonably long. In my garage, the charge unit is towards the inside section, but the cable easily extends to the back end of the car where it plugs in. The charge completes very quickly, usually reaching 80% within 3-4 hours (assuming it starts around 20-25%). During this time, neither the cable nor the charge unit gets hot. Overall, I'm quite pleased with the PointGuard charger and its capabilities. I have no doubt this unit is as good as the one being sold by Tesla. Highly recommended...

The media could not be loaded. This Level 2 EV Charger by POINTGUARD, is a fantastic addition to the EV charger world with a ton of great attributes and a high quality build. Here are some of the things I’ve learned while owning it and things to consider before buying. I. Quality – The high quality build of this charger is very obvious as soon as you open the box. From the glass face to the solid Tesla charging end, this charger looks and feels like it belongs in the upper end of the quality scale for EV chargers. II. Performance – This charger has worked great with a high 40A output that’s at the higher end of the scale of what’s available for at home use. This allow a quicker charge for even the long range models. The Tesla charging end is solid and easy to plug in. The all metal mounting brackets are easy to install and provide a sturdy attachment to the wall. The app is helpful and has been easy to use. The glass face really provides an attractive, high end look and feel to this charger. I’m not sure if this unit was a returned product or just packaged in a way were things bang around against each other, but it was scratched and marked in places. Either way, that shouldn’t happen at this level of cost. Without that, it would definitely be a 5-star product. Overall, despite the scratches, this is a very nice, high quality charger with equally as high performance, making it more than worthy of your consideration. I’ll be sure to update this review, if I ever start to have problems with it. If you’d find it helpful to see an up-close visual inspection of this product, I recommend you watch my included video in full screen or landscape. They say a picture is worth a 1000 words, well it’s video! You can trust that this review is simply my honest opinion that is attempting to provide you with helpful insight that I wish I had before I picked this product.
