So far I think they are working well? My tank does have algae but I also have a lot of plants and fish in the tank. I put an air stone in the filter to have smaller bubbles. I benefited from getting an air bubbler that you can adjust the air flow. That helps a lot when using these sponge filters. I like how cheap they are as well. Super easy to assemble ( pretty much already together when you get them just add the air hose) they do sink you just have to follow the instructions and squeeze the sponge a few times in the water for it to sink.

Product works great for oxygenating the water however when I took my other filter out when I got this one the water does get cloudy even with 25% weekly water changes & monthly filter cleans. I would recommend running this with a regular carbon filter!
