Very pretty over our pergola and it looks like a blue sky with white clouds when you look up at it. This review is to state mostly that installing sunshades, like this type, is not as cut and dry as one would think. Ive had mine up only for a couple weeks, and its only rained once. More on that in a minute. As to "sun protection", its fine. As to "water resistance", they do seem to be waterproof, although it seems like water beads up on the underside - but is it condensation, or does water soak through, over time? Hard to say, as ive only had one or two rains, and neither was a downpour. but the area of deck underneath did stay largely dry. The most important point i would note in this review is that installing sun sail shades is .... complicated. Theres really nothing to it, right? you bolt it to the supports and you're done. but you've got to really mount it securely. And I would never use the rope they send with the shade. I bought one of the wire-cable mounting kits, but it was a complete waste of money too. You do need turnbuckles, but the ones they send are not robust enough, and all failed. Once there is enough tension on their turnbuckles, the screw threadings started to strip and it became impossible to turn the turnbuckle. I ended up going out and buying all my own 1/2" anchor bolts, and my own cable, and my own 1/2" and 5/8" turnbuckles - some heavy duty hardware. you have got to mount these things STURDILY and then CRANK on them so that the shades are TIGHT as a drum, if you can. If you do not, they WILL fill up with rain - as i read in other reviews before buying mine. And you have to install them with a decent slope, a pitch - or they WILL fill up with rain, regardless whether they are tight as a drum. I ended up installing and then redoing my installation at least once and some anchors were redone twice or more, trying to get the right tightness and the right pitch to shed water. Honestly, im still not sure its going to work. Hasnt rained again yet, but is supposed to today! And ive done as much as is humanly possible for a homeowner, at this point. Im a builder, so Im not screwing around. If my installation methodology with the sun-shades at this point still proves insufficient, im taking the sails down and building a solid awning roof over the deck. I dont know how they do it when you see these kinds of shade sails at restaurants and commercially, etc. Those are always taut as a drum and look like they grew in place. They must have better sails, more robust, and some better industrial approach to installing them that is not accessible to the average homeowner.

Creates nice shaded area for small pool. Easy to hang. Able to withstand winds and rain from thunderstorms. I ordered the cloud design which adds decor for for pool coverage.

I've had this installed almost a year, and it has functioned quite well. Snow, rain, 100°F heat and more has been thrown at it and it has not failed. I highly recommend finding the tallest area you will mount to and loosely tie rope to the other ends to get an approximation of where you will be mounting the sail, depending on the complexity of your setup. Buy the adjustable hardware kit they sell, and you'll have about all the mounting options you need.
